I wonder how he’ll rank the Odyssey among the others, for me personally the title track “The Odyssey” is their best work yet, even a step above Divine Wings. It’ll be interesting for sure!

So glad you listened to this album, i love it so much. I really think this album has a wonderful flow to it, a beautiful sound and some AWESOME guitar riffs. I LOVE Egpyt the beginning is so magical and the way they carry on the the sort of egyptian culture throughout the song and album is so good. I think you should you listen to some steven wilson now! Steven Wilson - Hand Cannot Erase (BTW im proud my request for this album won, makes me sort of proud on the behalf of my fellow SymphX fans!)

The little pieces of lyrics you kept thinking were never sung at the ends of songs aren't actually lyrics, they're like passages the album's booklet give you to help progress the story and help "glue" one song to the next, narrative-wise. They help with the understanding of the story a bit, but even then the story is not the most clear thing in the world from the lyrics alone. I remember a while back when I went to look for explanations for the concept, if I recall correctly it's actually pretty standard stuff. Atlanteans have a strong spiritual connection to gods and etc, but then they get cocky trying to advance their civilization through tecnology, which ends up backfiring and fucking them up etc, the rest of the album follows mankind throughout different periods of time trying to reconnect with that spirituality etc until in the last song they kinda do it but in a new way, (a New Mythology). Something to that effect. Ok, now, musically speaking. V is an interesting album for me. I feel like it's one that the sum is greater than its parts, you know? It has a very cohesive sound throughout, it flows seamlessly from song to song and I feel like listening to it in its entirety more than listening to individual songs. It still has some pretty good ones though, Communion and the Oracle probably being my favorite, but I agree Egypt is great as well. Some of the songs are all about the cacthiness of the choruses for me, Fool's Paraside for instance, it may not have clicked at first for you, but if you give the album another listen you'll notice how absolutely infectious that chorus is, same for Absence of Light. Anyway, I think your rating is pretty fair to the album. I tend to say it is 5/5 simply because I can't find any song or aspect of it to bother me and make it lose some points, but I guess although it is "flawless" it is maybe not as striking and remarkable as some other albums by them are, so, yeah, 4,5/5 seems pretty fair. Comparing it with Divine Wings, I feel this one has the upper hand in the sense that I said it is pretty consistent and cohesive throughout, while Wings has the advantage of having songs that are simply stronger on their own (title track being one of the obvious examples) even though some of the songs didn't age all that well for me (I loved every bit of Wings when I first discovered the album and I still give it a 5/5 rating but some songs I'll admit just don't feel so interesting to me as they used to upon first listen). As I'm sure you'll end up eventually reacting to all of SX's discography, I think unlike DT, they just got better and better with every release. Not that DT got necessarily worse with every release, not even close, but I think SX's sound's evolution and experimentation always stuck the landing, while this hasn't been the case for every album DT has released. SX's sound just got more and more heavy with each release, and Romeo has become a brilliant producer, production just gets more and more brilliant with each SX album. If I were you (I know it's in the hands of the voters) I would react to Twilight In Olympus next and keep going up their discography in order so you can really get a hold of the gradual changes in their sound over time, but that's just me. I think my favorite SX album is probably Iconoclast, with Underworld being a close second, I don't know, really have a hard time ranking their albums. I like dividing their discography between: first 2 albums/ Divine Wings through V/ Odyssey onwards. First two don't do it for me, I think the production was not great (specially on the first one, not to mention not having Allen) and they were still trying to get the gist of their sound. Divine is the first where I think they really found themselves and stuck the landing. From this phase, my favorite album is probably Twilight In Olympus, which I know is to many people the weakest of this bunch, but I think that's highly unfair, but hey...subjective right? haha. From the Odyssey onwards phase which is the heavy phase, like I said I probably like Iconoclast the most. I'm curisous to see how you end up liking all of their albums, their phases etc.

Thanks for finally telling me what this album is about. For years I never actually knew it and now I think I can appreciate it a lot more. But what about themes of astrology and Egyptian mythology? How do those themes flow with the album? When you mentioned different time periods did Egypt and astrology have anything to do with those different time periods?

@@powerprogchild4267 I found something cool. It's actually a lot more intricate than I remembered from when I first read about it years ago. Found this in a metal forum but the dude said this was something he scavenged from an apparently long gone SX official site that no longer has this. But it does look pretty spot on so I believe it really was official. Check this out, guys. V: The New Mythology Suite The Story Behind Based on legends of Atlantis, ancient Egyptian mythology, Astrology and Edgar Cayce's clairvoyant readings about Atlantean culture. From Cayce's perspective, much of modern day is simply the rediscovering of knowledge and information possessed by the Atlantean culture. The good, as well as the Evil. At the beginning of time, there was an evolution of material beings from a drifting cosmic intelligence that arrived to this planet. Highly advanced, and able to physically project itself into this material world. It colonized and created the civilization of Atlantis (the islands of Poseidia, Og and Aryan). And they were the "Sons of the Law of One", the keepers of truth, technologically advanced beings. (using Crystal-based energy). The first of the Atlanteans was Ptah-Khnemu (translated from Egyptian as "Creator"-"Projector/Enricher"). The high priest of the Temple of Ra, and ruler of the Atlantean civilization. PRELUDE and EVOLUTION / THE GRAND DESIGN Quite impressed by their own ability to take physically form, the idea of creating entirely new beings would be an even greater display of their power, but in attempting to merge their energies, something went wrong and the newly made beings were disfigured, and there were altered beings with wings, hooved legs and tails - part human, part beast. This disrupted the "natural" evolution of the beings and they became divided. The first creature was spawned from the energies of Ptah-Khnemu - using the Magic of Five. This creation becomes his alter-ego - his dark side - the half-human/serpent creature Montu-Sekhment translated from Egyptian as God of War - Goddess of Destruction... [having both female and male qualities]). Montu-Sekhmet and the other creatures are banished from the great cities of Atlantis to live in the swamplands where their numbers will grow and they will eventually rise up against the "Sons of the Law of One". And they will be The Children of Belial. FALLEN Realizing that there is conflict, the people of the Law of One look to the sky for a messenger of peace. A bringer of Balance - the child Ma'at (Ma'at translated from Egyptian means "Truth" or "The Goddess of Order & Truth"). And so she is delivered to them - to teach a new order of Equality, hopefully able to bring about peace by her divine powers and wisdom. TRANSCENDENCE and COMMUNION AND THE ORACLE Nevertheless, the Children of Belial knew there would never be true balance, nor were they interested in the spiritual ways of the Law of One. So, Montu-Sekhmet gathered his legions of beasts and plotted the destruction of all those of the Law of One as well as the child Ma'at. Foreseeing that there would be a confrontation, people of Atlantis called upon the power of the Great Crystals to provide the energy for a supreme weapon, a weapon that could forever rid them of their dark counterparts. Unfortunately, the power of this weapon would be so immense, that it would shake the earth they stood on and destroy all they had created. And as Atlantis sank into the sea, the child was given to the waves and carried across the sea to find a new land and a new hope. THE BIRD-SERPENT WAR / CATACLYSM and ON THE BREATH OF POSEIDON Ma'at arrives at the shores of Alnantees (Egypt), where she is discovered by the inhabitants of the area and is brought before their king (RaTa). As they realize her powers, she is hailed as a 'prophet'. Her writings and words are forever hidden deep within a sacred book (hopefully, for a future civilization to find and learn the Ways of Balance.) Still in search of the child, we see the arrival of Montu-Sekhmet, shortly followed by Ptah-Khnemu. Summoning an army of the un-dead from Set-Amentet - (the mountains of the underworld, the undead), Montu-Sekhmet lays waste to the city and captures the child. With the child in his grasp, Montu-Sekhmet grows stronger, taking the energies from Ma'at, the Magic of Five giving power to the Dark Side. Ptah-Khnemu arrives, and a battle between the forces of Dark and the Light begins. - but in an act to prevent the shifting of balance, Montu-Sekhmet kills the child, now with the power aligned in his favour, there is nothing Ptah-Khnemu can do. EGYPT and THE DEATH OF BALANCE / LACRYMOSA With Montu-Sekhmet having possession of the ultimate power of Five, he is undefeatable. Balance is lost and this will forever have an impact on the future. As we move through time, we realize all the evils of the world. Understanding that the balance was altered long ago from the ways of Montu-Sekhmet and his actions. And this forever effected every civilization and every generation of mankind, being that darkness is the stronger force. (Comparisons to modern day events, etc.). ABSENCE OF LIGHT and A FOOLS PARADISE But ther is hope... Ma'at's words remembered, "when five align, seek the hidden word, a message locked in time."...meaning: a time will come when balance can be regained. Ma'at spoke of an alignment of five planets, and this would open a portal to another dimension, where the two forces of Good and Evil would again be equal, to battle until the end of time. And the beings on this Earthen plane could bring about their own balance seeking out the words of Ma'at and understanding her hidden rhyme. And on that Eve of Alignment, Ptah-Khnemu and Montu-Sekhmet are thrust into the void, to do battle on a higher dimensional plane, leaving us to start over and rediscover the truths of our own past - leaving the final outcome up to us. Can we change? REDISCOVERY PART I and PART II

@@DiegoDeschain Thanks dude, much appreciated. I'm still a little confused myself reading the story. Who knows, maybe I'm just a pleb to a lot of the mythology used in this album. Either way, it seems like a very cool story.

@@powerprogchild4267 C'mon now, don't go so hard on yourself, the story is confusing indeed. Other concept albums do a much better job in telling stories, this one is a little murky, even after reading the explanation.

I was talking over the guitar solo, for he same reason there was a noticable increase in the amount of time I was talking in other sections as well- fair use. I realized that my videos were not transformative enough and in order to make sure I am able to do reactions in the future, I need to be commentating over the songs as much as possible. The other alternative, which people hate infinitely more is pausing. If I'm only talking over twenty percent of the song, and eighty percent of the video is the raw song, that's not a reaction or review, the labels are well within their right to block my video. However, if I'm talking over at the least 50 percent of the original song, preferably more that is infinitely better and labels will have a much harder time trying to block the videos when they are clearly very transformative.
