Hi! Thanks again for your feedback. I think having open conversations with your doctor is healthy. Finding the right doctor is also key. I have been to 4 different doctors and am glad I was able to find a good doctor a few years ago. As you know there is not a cookie cutter recipe for managing Bipolar disorder. I wish there was, but treatment has to be customized to the individual. What may work for me may not work for someone else etc. I also agree that diet, exercise and good sleep patterns help as well to help manage Bipolar disorder.

I have taken medication and am currently on consistent medication. Try to never miss a day. It is critical for me to take medication. Although this wasn't always the case. I went through the whole "I don't need meds phase" I will defiently post a video on this topic. My next video should be live by this Sunday! Stay tuned :)

It's good that you're not Ashamed to be Bipolar...but I don't know if it's necessarily good to be Proud that you're Bipolar either. I don't know your Bipolar history, except that you said you were on a cruise ship once and you got drunk and were a 'party girl' and had a hypersexual fling with some guy on the ship...for a young and cute 'college girl', that wouldn't seem to be so bad, in fact you wouldn't even have to be Bipolar to do something like that. In fact, it's not at all uncommon for Bipolar people to be vivacious, 'life of the party' types, especially when they're Hypomanic. However, when Hypomanic or Manic episodes lead to behavior that's Not Fun At All, and causes serious difficulties...then that's not something that I personally would look back on with Pride, particularly when they end in lost jobs, lost friendships, lost money...and several trips to Mental Facilities. I do think there's a difference between Bipolar Disorder and Alcoholism, though the two often interconnect...in that it's possible to remove alcohol from your brain, but not your own Bipolar brain chemistry. I don't know...I don't have your Personality (I bet you were a lot of fun on that cruise ship, lol!)...and I'm also Male...but I can't say that I would personally want to feel 'proud' of my Bipolar Disorder...but that's just Me!

+fwb41 thanks for your feedback and for watching my video. Everyone feels different and has had different experiences. I can see all sides bc I have been there. I understand bipolar disorder and the different severity of hypomanic versus manic episodes. I couldn't agree with you more that People with the disorder are the life of the party etc . I have experienced it all along with severe depression. For me it wasn't just that I was a young college girl that had a fling. It was much more than that to that to me. I am proud because I look back at all the ups and downs. I am very thankful to be where I am today, alive and healthy. Take care.

ProudToBeBipolar Lisa Marie You too...but would you say that there is a difference between Male Bipolar people, and Female Bipolar people...as far as their experiences and demeanors go? I may be wrong...but I can't help believing that Female Bipolar people get more sympathy from others than do Males...I remember Margot Kidder and Patty Duke Astin got lots of sympathy and support from people...not so Mike Tyson. Then there's the case of Sammi Adams (Rawsammi) on You Tube...I don't know if you're familiar with her YT channel...who not only got lots of sympathy, but lots of money and presents from her subscribers, too. I can't see a Male Bipolar person getting that amount of support from people...what do You think?

My sister has bipolar and is currently manic and delusional. She's refusing to take her medicine too. Should I go along with her when she's telling me things that aren't true or should I tell her that these things aren't true? We've had and impossible time with the healthcare system. They released her while still manic and referred to an outpatient center. We're just not equipped to deal with this and don't know what to do. I HATE this for her. :(

I have seen experienced many of the manic bipolar symptoms you described with my best friend he has over past few months become obsessed w/online one night stands not date just hook up and go. at work at social gatherings he is always on his phone looking for next hook up. and he is now moved in w/ a enabler who encourages his reckless behaviors. I still see him a lot but it is painful to watch him go down this path. I don't know what I can do for him now?

My cycles have varied over the past 11 years. My first manic episode lasted about 3 weeks. It started as Hypomania and then escalated into the full blown manic episode. Major life changes can have an impact on your moods. Life changes for me have attributed to my episodes as well. It is important to keep track of your moods when the changes are happening. The high internally feels awesome, but the consequences can be detrimental. Education is key to help minimize the stigma.

I think one of my friends who has bipolar is currently in this mania state. He's trying to start a business without any knowledge of the product, spends a lot of money even though he lost his job, is trying to also become a professor, keeps trying to do a lot of things with different people, is more irritable than normal, has been having multiple love interests. I want to talk to him about it, but I'm kinda scared that that'll push him over the edge because he recently blew up with someone over a very minor thing. Any thoughts on what I should do? He sees a psychiatrist so I'm hoping that they can help him but I also don't know how much he's sharing with them.

Hey girl. My close friend has bi polar 1 she was just admitted to the hospital for her condition. I have been friends with her for a long time and she's a great friend. However this isn't something I am use to. I am completely her support and I try to do what I can. She calls me but it's hard for me to understand what to do. It's still early and I believe she's still manic. I love her so much as a person I want to help but I have no idea what is ok and what isn't. I just don't want her to feel alone but today she mentioned something out picking her up from the hospital. It breaks my heart because I know I can't do that to her she needs this more then anything. Do you have any advice for me so I can be barter support for my friend. Thank you.

That's very commendable of you to feel that way towards your fiancé...but you shouldn't forget to be there for Yourself, too, as living in an intimate relationship with a Bipolar partner can be very taxing and draining...also very exasperating. Be supportive of him, by all means...but remember that it's His mental illness, not yours, and it ultimately rests on Him to do everything he can to manage his Bipolar Disorder, with the help of mental health professionals, and with your help. Don't try to be a 'Jesus Girl' for him...it won't work, and it could lead to a Breakup.

My best friend has this. My question is do you get lows and depression with mania? She doesn't seem to get that but she also self medicates with benzos, compazine and alcohol (she's a nurse and has access to these things).

Pumpkin hello- thanks for your question. My depression episodes would follow my mania episodes. I would self medicate as well when I was both manic and depressed. It wasn't until I took ownership of being bipolar that I started to get on the right path. I wish your friend the best and hope she can get the help she needs in her depression. Thanks!
