I just did this on a 2011 Ford Focus and I have to say that you just saved me $100 on a new head unit. I will say that on the Ford Sync website it took a few tries entering the VIN number for them to recognize that I had it. I even called the 1-800 number and while the person on the other end was nice I may as well asked my nine year old how to update the system. Great video getting to the facts and steps and not doing all this filler BS.

When it shows no update, after you submit the first time, wait 48 hours and the update will appear

Hey man, so glad I found this randomly. I've been hating trading my 2012 Focus Titanium in for this 2012 Fusion SEL for the sole purpose of having to press the 'voice' button on the steering wheel 2 times in rapid succession and then saying Bluetooth audio only to have it work %50 percent of the time. This is pure awesomeness and quite surprising to have an update on a car that's 9 years old. Especially SYNC V1.

I wish it had worked on mine. I still have that frustrating bluetooth/line-in issue even after the update completed (verified under system info - same version ID reported in the file name). I have the Fusion with the NAV system though. So, maybe that's why it's different for mine.

If it says "file not found" or something like that change format to FAT32 ... Remember, FAT32 is limited on USB drive size. If your windows conputer wont allow FAT32 format option you need to partition the drive or getca drive smaller than 32gb. I used a 4gb with FAT32 on a 2011 Ford Flex

The girl in my radio just says she didn't find a file on the USB that is compatible or something like that. Does anyone have the software saved somewhere? I can't download it form the Ford website anymore it just says I should go to a dealer, but the price he wants is a total rip-off for that simple process. Edit: mine is a 2014 Mustang

You can also just push the media button on your steering wheel and just say “Bluetooth audio” and it’ll go to Bluetooth.

just installed an alpine ilx 407 head unit in my 2010 ford fusion today. looks very clean, very responsive and quick. has bluetooth and apple car play and music still sounds very very good. it was an expensive unit around like 500 i wanna say but definitely worth it

Ok I looked my VIN number on the website you provided and it said it's a correct vin number, but it doesn't think my car is compatible. I have the exact same car as you but mines an SEL where I think yours is an SE. It has the same radio and all, no touch screen. Thoughts?

I just bought a 2012 Fusion, with 4.1.2 according to the Ford site. As of now (August 2022) you can’t download the update from the site, it only says to “see a dealer”. Yeah, I’m not paying $100+ for something that should be easy and I can do myself. I found the files for 4.4 and 4.6 posted online. I tried both firmware updates, following the directions in this video. Multiple sticks and sizes, (8GB, 16GB) on Fat32, yadda yadda. I just keep getting the “installation failed” message every time I try. Something that should be relatively simple for someone even a little tech savvy shouldn’t be so difficult.

I have the same issue with my 2011 Flex. It has SYNC 1 ver 3.2. The Ford site says I have an update for the 4.6 version but am forced to go the Ford dealership for a $130 service appt. Could you reply with what URL you located the files for the 4.6 files? Thanks.

That’s strange. You might need to edit the .ini file and force add your model number into the config file. I can send you my files that I used that worked perfectly fine. Also, the 4.6 version update kills Siri Eyes Free and renders Siri USELESS. That’s why I only recommend people to install the version 4.4 update and NOT the newer version 4.6 update.

Format FAT32?! Ford instructions say exFAT. Maybe that's why I'm not getting anywhere. If this is true I can not believe Ford hasn't corrected this glaring mistake (today is 8-9-2021). I'll go try again to see where I end up... other than being more frustrated.

Mine are actually bad rn, like really really bad, the car shakes at idle and badly at speed , definitely a flaw in these motor mounts

Any troubleshooting on what to do when the installation fails? Did you format using fat32 or exfat? I used a 32 gig drive with nothing else on it so not sure lack of space is an issue. My current sync version is sync gen 1 v3.2 Any help would be appreciated as exactly this time last year I had to go to the dealership to get it updated and was charged a fairly high amount

Definitely not a lack of space. I will say they are very picky about the flash drive you use though. I can't remember Wich format Its in the video though. I wanna say I used fat32 even though the Ford website says exfat. It doesn't work with it. Just don't pay the dealer to do it, it's cheaper to get a drive from Walmart than pay the outrageous amount to them lol

That's wierd, maybe unplug the battery to the car and then wait 15 minutes and plug it back up and then try, however if you undo the battery make sure the car runs for at least 30 minutes to relearn it's idle

Why do you have to let it relearn it’s idle and what does that even mean?

Basically this car has a ton of computers and stuff, that tells it how to idle, and other things, when you disconnect the battery ut forgets them, so it’s best to let it relearn it’s idle before you go driving so it doesn’t have any hiccups or anything

Do you still happen to have the update files? My sync system is the same as yours and on v2.01. The ford sync website claims my system is up to date, but it's not and a customer service rep even sees that an update is available for my car. But the website won't even let me download the files. And the service rep wouldn't email them to me. Local dealerships want to charge around $150 for doing the update. Anyway you could load them up to dropbox or Google drive?

I did this to my 2011 Ford Escape, and it said installation complete on the screen. It seemed to update fine, and the voice prompts sound slightly different. But when I go to check the version number, it still says "BG1T-14D544-AB", which is Sync V3.2. How do I change it to the current number?

That’s definitely a wierd one, I’d imagine that for some reason maybe it didn’t update the build number, but if there is noticeable change you should still be okay anyways

It shouldn’t affect it, at least in the fusions I’m not sure about the c max. But in my car the radio is completely separate from the trip computer that controls my key. So I don’t believe it’ll mess with it at all
