Sync 3 APIM replacement 2017 Ford Fusion

Sorry for the crude video editing and shaking. This is our first video - my son is excited to create his first KZbin video! This is his first with his new (used) GoPro 5 hero. Really interested on how you got your range and stuff being displayed on the right side of your cluster? Is that a modification? Mine doesn’t show that

In your descripion for the video you should if said why you replaced it. My backup camera is glitching out and I replaced it but same issue its completely random its like a weird digital noise, and it looks like the camera video is being received by a tv channel on an old tv, it loses vertical lock and starts scrolling up, or has weird colors and sometimes it glitches out so bad it ends up saying camera not available. So im guessing it must be this module.

Well the video editing certainly is wonky, but I was able to replace the apim module in my fusion based on this so thanks!

Hi Sam If the problem is with Sync 3 software and not hardware, then can I reload the software on my current APIM module to solve the slow response? Why buy a used or new APIM module. Will appreciate a reply. Your video is great for learning where the APIM is located and how to remove trims safely. Thanks to you and Josh.

I am not sure if the software will fix some of the issues. You can certainly try to reprogram to see if it fixes it if you have the hardware to do so. I found en economical solution replacing the hardware is all. It was easy and reasonable in cost.

Quick question so my sync 3 recently died on me black screen and everything I got a 2018 Ecoboost mustang. My question is all I would need is just get a new module like you did in this video right or would I need to get new wires also ?

Not 100% certain without diagnosing but it sounds like just the module.

does the apim have any affect on the hybrid function? I upgraded mine and hybrid doest engage as it did before, not nearly as much.

It should not. It does not control it, it only displays information.

Did you purchase the apim for the Ford Lincoln? When I click the link it takes me to synced module for Ford Lincoln. I just want to clarify before I purchase.

It is for both, Ford and Lincoln, yes.

What exactly were the issues that made you certain it was the apim module?

It was minor - the Bluetooth would not remember the phone I paired with it - so I had to pair every time I wanted to use my phone. I live in NY where there is daylight savings time and during that time the clock would not retain the time. I had to set up forward an hour each time I restarted the car. Other than that, everything else worked.

I also got a 2017 fusion. The climate control and the backup camera doesn't work after a jump start. Send 100$ at the dealership to diagnose. The dealership said need 600 to book a new APIM and they didn't promise the problem will be fixed. I guess I will just buy a APIM on ebay and follow ur video to replace it by myself.

Did you end up doing this? did it fix your issue ( my backup camera glitches out randomely, its like a digital noise issues like you would see with old tv's that used an antanna. I replaced the backup camera but same issue so it has to be this apim module im assuming? Car is 5 years old now. Everything else seems to work fine like climate control screen and everything. Just backup camera randomely stops working correctly, sometimes not at all it will say camera not available if it glitches out enough. And then other days no issues at all.

Did a dealership really quote you $1200 for the part and installation?? Nervous because my APIM died a few weeks ago on my 17' Fusion and am taking it in this week

I researched the costs online. They ranged from $800 to over $1200. I assume navigation adds to the cost. I did look to replace mine with a new unit. Just the unit itself is $799 from Ford. I choose to take my chances with a used unit. The guy I bought mine from stated it was used, but pulled from a new car that the owner wanted navigation added. So far the unit I added has been working flawlessly. I paid $199 for it and he programmed it with my car’s VIN. I included the link to where I purchased it from if you decide to go that route. GREAT informational vid. F#$%*&g stealerships! They took $250 to diagnose; after having it overnight so the unit could 'discharge', said that they couldn't access the module to reprogram/flash it and they want $1,900 for a new NON-Nav unit! >:(
