Great video. I hope you can solve my two issues with CarPlay. How come the text message alert tone is so loud? Where or can we adjust the volume?

Thanks Izzy! Double check your phone volume.. if it's cranked then you can lower it on the phone itself. Other option would be to turn down the car audio

Is it dark as in no image or dark as in it's tough to see the display? Under Settings --> Display are you in night/dark mode or Auto? if the screen just isn't working you can try a soft reboot by pressing and holding the power button and right seek button for 5 - 10 seconds

what wil cause the syn screen not to come on when the car is started?

It should automatically come on at startup.. could be a fuse, the wiring or something else. Book it in for service, screen issues should be covered under warranty

Thank you! The screen doesn't have native Netflix support. The only thing you could try that might work would be to use an Amazon firestick with Netflix on it. You'd need to tether it to your phone or the available hotspot in the vehicle though

Hey steve i have a issue i have a 2024 lincoln aviator reserve and it is fully loaded the problem is i cant use mobile apps on my car it doesnt show up it shows use wired connection which is the only option but when i do that android auto or apple carplay shows up depending on the phone i also found a solution for that and i disabled the android auto or apple carplay from the car settings so i doesnt show up and then i open the eligible mobile apps on my phone and the press find mobile apps it still coudnt find any even with the factory phone cable

AppLink was also discontinued so there may not be any apps that actually work that way now.. but even then there aren't many useful apps that were available. Your best bet is just running though Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.. Is there a specific app that you were looking for?

Alexa should run ok when you're connected via USB on Apple and USB or bluetooth on Android as long as your Sync 3 screen is updated to at least v2.3. You need to make sure that CarPlay or Android Auto is disabled, then go to Settings --> Mobile Apps --> Enable Mobile Apps (make sure it's turned on). Then tap the Apps Icon, swipe left and tap the Ford+Alexa icon edit: You won't be able to use CarPlay or Android Auto if you want to use Alexa.. but if you don't care about that app specifically then just use CarPlay or Android Auto instead!

Hey Steve, I'm going to go through the video and just type out what comes to my mind. I do have my Sync updated to 3.4 build 21265. I understand that you might not have all the answers, but maybe someone in the comment section can help. Around the 1 minute mark, it looks like you changed the temperature using the manual switches, the temperature shows in the large circle in the middle of the screen. Mine doesn't. Any ideas why? For the SiriusXM membership, do you know how long the trial membership is that comes with a new Aviator? Same with the factory navigation, how would I update the map? I noticed that if using any of the Car Play navigation apps, the directions does not show up on the HUD, nor the driver screen.

Let's see... just double checked the video and yes around that mark I had changed the climate. I'll check out a Nautilus tomorrow to see what build the screen is on and if the temp shows. Will take a look at that nav in the HUD as well SiriusXM trial is for 3 months in Canada and the USA for Lincolns that are 2021 models and newer. Map updates in the Aviator can either be downloaded, saved to USB and updated manually yourself or you can request available updates be installed when the vehicle is due for its regular service. @@CarsWithSteve No OTA? Really? Lincoln get with it eh! At least hopefully there is no longer a charge to get updated maps like I would suffer with if I were to do so with my 2011 MKX. Not for about $250 anyway. Kind of like the fee to change a battery on the fob which is a 2032 button battery which from Ebay is very cheap for a card of 5 or ten which would last a lifetime. If I still travelled I might buy SFM but too little driving so I could listen to '50's R & R so it is 96.3 FM now.

@@phlotographer Vehicle firmware updates can be done OTA when connected to wifi but maps on Sync3 need to be manually updated unfortunately. As far as I know Sync3 map updates are still paid with either a one time download or 5 year plan available

@@CarsWithSteve TY for that info Steve. That may have a bearing upon what vehicle I will look to in the future. I have never updated my MKX and have never had an issue with finding where to go so it is not a major concern but maybe Tesla will be the answer if I want 21st C tech. Now if only Canada could get smart and build its own vehicles, particularly EV and then create a bona-fide network nation wide of charging stations. Probably not in my time though.

@@phlotographer The Oakville plant is being electrified so Ford has something up their sleeve for that factory in the next few years Haven't had the chance to start reviewing Tesla vehicles yet but hopefully in the first few months of 2022!

How do I access text messaging?

Press the phone icon in the bottom tray of the screen, you should have text messaging show up there. If it's greyed out then text message wasn't approved when the phone was connected so easiest thing to do is remove the phone from the vehicle and then reconnect!

A number of manufacturers are in that boat as well but I do think that Lincoln should have done a mid cycle upgrade to at least give this the new Sync4 system. Hopefully by 2023!

I just bought a 2023 Aviator and I'm very disappointed with the sound. Music sounds great. So what do I mean? Voices sound tinny, especially higher pitched ones such as most females. I listen almost exclusively to talk radio and I have the treble at 0 as well as the mid range with the bass turned to max. Still sounds awful. Also, there's no mute button? Seriously?

Really? Are there any specific artists you notice the audio is worse with? Keep mid range at 0, drop treble by 2 and raise bass to 3 - those settings seem to work great across most makes/models I've reviewed so far

I did read your comment and I'm giving you a suggestion on how to make it sound better. Put treble to -2 and bass to +3.. Bass at max would sound terrible in most vehicles.

All good, something always gets lost in translation! If those settings don't work there could be something wrong with the wiring of your speakers. A dealer visit could be useful for them to see if there's something up with it. Missed the mute button question.. the Aviator oddly doesn't have one
