It was nice hearing you talk about the colors chosen by most Paladins for use on their attire. My head-to-toe, heavy plate armor is colored in burnt oranges, deep reds and gold fittings. While in that armor I hail as the Sunset Paladin, the final light before the coming darkness. Thanks for another great lecture, Scribe!

Returning to the game after a year away I’ve decided to follow my heart and take up the way of the Paladin. At least for the majority of the game. But I’ll also become a Samurai on that character for those times when I have to do group content. That way I don’t get to pathfind and pull in the dungeons. I can just be a damage dealer.

It's a cool sub plot! It's just a shame we don't see anything come of it since the WoL wins but can't actually assume their role of Supreme Paladin since it wouldn't make sense in the MSQ.....

11:09 "even though a wooden shield might not seem as wise of a choice as a metal one..." -it's super tricky since this is a fantasy game, but i'd like to point out that it's always a better choice to use wooden shield with some steel on it. wood is generally better at absorbing blows.

I'm a paladin main and RPer and I remeber....about as little from the paladin quests as I can because I genuinely don't think they make sense. so thanks. Also...I find it funny how you say they realized full plate armor limits their movements....*looks at paladin endwalker armor*

I have two Paladin Characters, and I really hope we get to see a sort of Free Paladin Hall where those of the New Order gather, and I hope they kinda have a friendly-ish rivalry with the Dark Knight Order. They have similar modus operandi, just different sides of the Dark-Light spectrum. Also, I don't use glamours with my Paladins.

Thanks for the Paladin lore. I once was one in FF11 and intended to have an alt Pld in FF14 until I realised whilst levelling Arcanist that tanking is very different in Eorzea. Both pulling and leading the party through dungeons just isn’t my thing.

One neat thing I didn't notice at first is that for a lot of their magic, they're actually casting it through their shield - even Holy Spirit's animation comes from the shield. Divine Veil has them enchanting their shield then "bouncing" the next spell off of it into a barrier, too, so the shield in general seems to just be a conduit for their holy magic. I do miss their old shield slam uppercut though. That was a cool animation that really sold the fantasy of sword-and-board combat, and keeping that as an oGCD would be a great compromise I think.

Paladin is the job I am most excited to level. I am trying to avoid spoiling the specifics of the story, but it can be a little hard when I’m so interested in the lore lol. It seems like the PLD job quests aren’t well-liked by many players, but I’ll try to keep an open mind. I have to say though, the fact that Paladins with a similar resolve need to fight each to assert dominance? That’s a little weird.

I suppose it's to assert the idea that in a team of already strong willed knights, which one is the most incorruptible and powerful? Makes sense you want that one as the leader. But the PLD story being disliked is, well, I'm certainly curious to see what you take away from it.

You would probably have triple or more the sub count if you invested in creating thumbnails for your videos. I wish PLD once cast Requiescat would just turn into a 2h sword wielding angelic guardian (like the guardian of ancient kings from wow) and then have a 10-20 second phase of pure offensive dps instead of the spirit and sword casting. The guardian from WoW really always envisioned to me what a high level PLD dealing out retribution should look like.. sadly they removed it and I never saw it since

As a person that plays both Paladin religiously in WoW (a Retribution Pally even) and FFXIV, i heavily disagree. The paladin in WoW uses Holy magic because it is established in game to be a school of magic that one could learn, or have a natural affinity towards. The paladin in FFXIV are a defensive force, using their sword arts and own power to manipulate aether to cast spellls. The theme of both are entirely different. Pallies use the Light without (the magic from the forces of the Light), while PLD uses the power within (their own Aether). Plus the PLD signature symbol is a shield, since it is now the only job in XIV that effectively uses a shield (WHM and BLM used to use caster wooden shields in ARR, but they slowly got phased out), so giving them a cooldown that gives them 2H sword just makes them a non-edgy DRK. Plus even what you say contradicts the PLD role in XIV. They're defenders, protectors, not vengeance nor seek retributions.
