I don't understand why people say a true lucipinnis doesn't have smaller spots on the head. Every single source I've found for buying either a lucipinnis or a "4 inch dwarf petricola" has a photo of the fish where the spots get noticeably smaller there.
@grock317 жыл бұрын
Hmm interesting. I was sold mine as petricola as well. They've been with me for quite some time and they're growth hasn't changed whatsoever.
@TheFoxio7 жыл бұрын
I think the one I had was a petricola..Im not sure though..It died when it was about 5 or 6 years old for no apparent reason..It was much darker coloured than this one & harder to see the spots,but when it came out under the lights so I could see it's spots they werent conected,they were just round spots.. He or she was about an inch & a half long when I bought it & was about 4 inches when it died mysteriously..I miss that fish..In my community of tetras rasboras & cherry barbs it looked like a shark was swimming around in there.lol
@hermesbowser117 жыл бұрын
I'd agree with you, lucipinnis is a much more common fish, and true petricola is very rare in the hobby. I used to have a pair of fish that had most of the physical characteristics of lucipinnis, if you want to see a photo of one of them

Dan Hiteshew I figured as much. I never got a good look to see if there were pores, but everything else pointed to lucipinnis, at least to me. They had the spots that blended together, never grew past three and a half inches, had the windows on the fins, and didn't have an overly snake-like body. But I couldn't be 100% sure. I'd be interested if you ever got a good enough look to see if there were pores.

I purchased one a few days ago, and I think it could be a petricola. The middle of the back fin is solid black, the spots are kind of alingned on the body, and the spots get smaller and closer to each other on the head area. Whatever species it is, can they be kept in a community tank?

I agree with a possible hybrid. One thing may help answer the question though. Ive noticed in my breedings of both pwtricolla and lucipinnis that they the lucies have an extremely slow growth rate. Slower than petricola. How was this ones frowth rate.
@DanHiteshew-oneandonly7 жыл бұрын
Pretty slow, but it's already the max size of a Lucipinnis at only a few years old.

Keeping them in groups of 4 or 5 really bring them to life and much more social/active. I had 2 for awhile in my 75 gallon and added 2 more down the road and they are all over the place now, even come out and up to the surface at feeding time.. Before the 2 would stay in their same cave 24/7 and only peak out to get scraps of food that made it to their cave.
