I was thinkin of purchasing a Synology NAS but then saw your review of the Bee Station. If I purchase the Bee Station to backup data from my external HDD will any file I alter on the external HDD automatically replicate over to the Bee Station or do I have to do this myself? I'm looking for a way for any files I alter to be automatically recognised and the changes backup up without me having to do it. I hope that made sense?

I do have a DS1522+ Synology NAS. However I am looking for a second place to have my Photo's and most important files. So I have them in 2 places. I do not want to backup to C2 or any other cloud. I second NAS is quite expensive. Do you recommend the Beestation as a second option for me?

One of my biggest concern is the life of the HDD. It will requires a second external SSD to be a backup. That will double the cost.

Can one set this up remotely? For example, could I send a new one to my friend, have him hook it up to his router, and then backup my files, using the internet drive option?

I don't own one yet but from what I've seen to far, this should be possible. You and your friends would have to create an account and then they can share their access.

While I really appreciate the video, I wouldn't trust this for privacy. Unless the tunnel from your device to the local storage is encrypted, Synology would normally have access to the files. So the only difference with Google one is that your files are stored on a device in your house which is accessible by Synology, while Google's are stored on in a server room.

​@@gr0wnup5Yeah true. Google wins on convenience. Reasonable price and they'll never lose your data, whereas this is only 4tb and if hardware fails you potentially lose data.

Thanks ! Too bad it's not possible to back up my Google Photos account. I have hundreds of albums and thousands of photos that are only on Google Photos. I'm looking for a way to back them up automatically.

This device is hopeless, it works very slowly, it copies photos at a very low speed, after two days of not using it, I need a few minutes to preview the photos. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT, WASTE OF TIME, NERVES AND MONEY.
