I'm super late to this one but I've come across another method for merging objects: the addon Bool Tools. Select two objects, after activating the addon. On the N table, select Edit, and select Union. The end result is the two objects merged perfectly joined. You don't even need to remesh the joined object before smoothing. It's all one mesh. Though certain types of objects don't merge well with others using this method.
@RoseRedTiger7 ай бұрын
well ye, that's essentially the same thing as just using a boolean modifier, however while sculpting remesh is much more streamlined
@zacharyjones53983 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised you used multires, given unlike remesh, multires respects details. I heard Huion makes pretty good tablets and they don't shaft you like wacom.

Great video and motivation that my work is actually possible. Been redoing the torso in multiple methods and always never quite getting it right, or something really messes up. My main issue is when joining and sculpting. If I'm gonna either pose or animate it, then not being involved in the vertice placement might lead to it making some weird connections and animating would look weird. For example, it's common in tutorials to add extra rings of vertices around joints so they don't bend weirdly when rotated. But what if in a worst case scenario, the joint at the hip and butt is either stretched, weird uneven squares or has triangles that make rotation look weird.
@RoseRedTiger3 жыл бұрын
that seems like mostly a rigging issue, if you want stuff to look good you need a whole bunch of corrective bones and technical stuff to make everything look right
@magnusm43 жыл бұрын
@@RoseRedTiger That's why I'm conflicted. I need the specific joint modeling from tutorials for game models and their optimization, but I still want to be able to model the shape as I please. But when I do, it has so many details that if they're missing the hip and leg connection, then simply moving the vertices becomes a problem.

Really great series and amazing art. I'm interested in additional guidance you might have on "when" to retopo and move to multi-resolution like you did in this video. I'm working on a furry creature model for practice and since big chunks of fur are part of the model I'm having trouble deciding if I should block in some of the big pieces first, then retopo and move to multires or do it sooner and layer in all the fur elements after. Thanks!
@RoseRedTiger3 жыл бұрын
I'm still figuring out stuff myself, but the main thing that's important with retopo and multires is is that you shouldn't be making changes that affect the silhouette after you've done retopology, so if it's thick chunks of fur that stick out from the model, do them before, but if it's pretty much just texture that's flat to the body (like I did here) you can do it with multires
@maxgrey34023 жыл бұрын
@@RoseRedTiger Got it. Makes sense. I think I'm just about done with the big chunks with plenty of surface left so I'll move to retopo and multires next. One of the key reasons I'd like to do it sooner rather than later is this squirrel-like model has the arms and legs spread out a bit so I could work around them and retopologize, etc. but I would really like to do some repositioning into a neutral pose for final surface details. Doing that with the high-poly sculpt is very messy.

how did you learn to do this? Did you go to school or take any classes? I'd like to know since I want to get back into 3D modeling and am having trouble learning without any guidance.

I didn't take any classes, no, I mostly picked up what i know from trying stuff out and looking at other peoples art, plus a couple of KZbin videos here and there. I'm not one for classes and courses and such

Hei Tiger, say is there a tutorial for the furry feet in specific, I'm trying to attempt to do some too but it looks like I never hit the mark, I made the toes spread apart and when I try to retopology on them, and glue them together looks strange and unsatisfying, I did try to be as accurate as I can with my reference, any advice on it or tips to help. thank you
@RoseRedTiger Жыл бұрын
when it comes to spreading them or just merging together, that depends on what the model needs to do in the end, imo it's fine if they're together for most things. for the design the most important thing is having a bunch of references

i model object for 3d printing in autodesk because its literally the easiest plattform for 3d printing. Sadly I understand jack shite about blender because its really complicated and near to no hotkey is remotely the same. Also i miss tools to equip in a side bar. Is there an addon for blender di make its noob friendlier for me to make my own oc? Im not so much about commitions because I dont have that much money and I like to do things myself anyways.
@RoseRedTiger2 жыл бұрын
i don't know any, i just know when you start up blender for the first time you can use a hotkey preset that'S based on other programs

Maybe one day, but to be honest I think it's better to learn the basics of sculpting and use references than to try and work off of a tutorial.

please make a simple tutorial like Animal Businessman but not Timelapse because beginners like me it difficult to learn sclupting if the tutorial is timelapse. thank you
@RoseRedTiger3 жыл бұрын
I might make a general tutorial at some point but I don't have any plans for something specific like an animal businessman. If you actually wanna learn to sculpt a specific character you're gonna need to learn the general fundamentals of sculpting, there are courses and series like that on youtube, you're not gonna learn that from a simple tutorial and I don't have the time for something like that
