Regarding bringing pajamas: we're shown in the first episode that Young-woo HATES tags on her clothes because she finds them uncomfortable, hence her Dad makes a point of letting her know that he's removed all the tags from the outfit he gifted her for her first day of work. So she is really trying to be thoughtful when she brings the pajamas, and tells Su-yeon that she grabbed the pajamas because they were the only bottoms that didn't have tags on them--of course thinking that if Young-woo finds tags too uncomfortable, then of course other people must too. And when Young-woo is trying on the wedding dress, she makes a grimace and complains that "the whole wedding dress feels like it's made out of tags"; so she is very uncomfortable with the way the dress feels. At the very end of the episode, Young-woo does a similar thing by bringing her dad HER favorite food, and not her dad's. Both situations point out an autistic trait of her own spectrum that impairs her ability to understand that people may like/dislike different things than she does.

Something to note. This series started out with a .9% ratings share in South Korea. Each week the share has gotten larger and the last episode scored a 15.7% share. It's a phenomenon. And Hollywood has taken notice with talk of an American remake of it. Not bad for a little series that could.

@@phoebeahn8941 What was the first version of the Good Doctor before the American version? I was curious about that since this show reminds me a little of that. I honestly don't know if an American version can pull this off. What makes this special is the lead actress and the whimsy. An American version will probably go over the top with the whimsy -- making it ridiculous -- instead of just putting hints of it in the program to suggest the lead character's thoughts and personality.

im an autistic adult that has gone through all my life as a non autistic person because my parents never listened to me and always shut me down when I would tell them I felt different. This caused me so many issues with depression and anxiety because struggling with some things with no understanding and just being catalogued as antisocial, weird, lazy etc and not getting any leeway obviously causes issues. the autistic spectrum has a bunch of ''symptoms'' so every autistic person is different because we all experience them in different ways. some might have issues with some things more than others but no-one is ''more autistic'' than other autistic people it just depends on their symptoms and how high or low they affect the individual. For example I really struggle with noise and struggle with SOME social interactions but then you'll see me doing amazing customer service or singing karaoke. Some other autistic people might not have any issue with this but yes with other things that dont affect me as much.

The words she says when introducing herself are other examples where the first and third syllable are the same just like her name. For example, the one that's the same in English is TO-MA-TO. Just like WOO-YOUNG-WOO, tomato is still tomato when read backwards. Korean is a syllable based language, not letter based so yeah. :D That's how that works :)

Technically, Korean alphabet is comprised of vowels and consonants. Anagrams are still based on letters. Written in Korean, the five words she says are spelled the same backward and forward, but not their English translations, e.g. tomato spelled backwards is otamot. The subs just give five English anagrams that aren't a direct translation of what she's saying, just like Spanish subs may say "ojo," etc.
@jonaskoelker Жыл бұрын
@@googelle7555 > anagrams I believe you were looking for the word 'palindrome(s)'? A palindrome is a word that's spelled the same way forwards and backwards. Two words are anagrams if you can reorder the letters in one to get to the other, like 'post' and 'stop'.

In this drama, there are many language games that are hard to translate that only Koreans can understand. So if you look at the English subtitles, you will suddenly see random words that are not related to do with the context. This is because language play is mixed in there as korean meanings. In particular, the blind date scene of Choi Soo-yeon, a friend lawyer of Woo Young-woo arranged by Woo Young-woo and where Woo Young Woo introduced herself.

Every "foreign" reaction to Woo young woo, I see people miss out on the part where young woo brings takeout from the expensive sushi place is that, Kimbap (seaweed kimbap) is something you could buy for a couple of dollars per roll and it's kind of equivalent to turkey or ham sandwiches where it's something quick to eat. Where young woo went to have food with her co workers is an expensive sushi place, and usually people would have high quality sashimi or nigiri sushi and they tend to cost hundreds of dollars. Young woo is very picky and only eats gimbap, so she only thought to bring home her favorite food - which is similar to what the dad has been making for years for his little shop every day hahaha this was used to show that young woo lacks social clues or to be sensible to others, which is a common trait for people with autism.

Korean money is in won. This series uses that term. Think 1000 won equals approximately one American dollar. Divide the money number by 1,000 to convert to American money.

Really enjoying your reactions thus far! If you are interested, the drama "Its Okay Not to Be Okay" would be a great follow up to watch! Cant wait to see more!

한국에서는 샐리 라이드가 누군지 몰라서 그냥 흘러보낸 떡밥이었는데 사회자는 바로 알아채서 (최초의 여성 우주비행사) 신기해요 리뷰 자체도 재미있지만 문화권마다 단서를 해석하는 게 달라서 흥미롭습니다

You guys should watch the Korean Good Doctor or the American version of that. If you love this, you're gonna love those two too.

The show is very interesting seeing the spectrum however I found out that the translation in Korean was weird attorney instead of extraordinary little mixed on that. The ml her research for role was just with doctors

random but, i did my teaching practicum for integrated special education program or special needs students for music education last year.. after watching the series, i feel like i was lacking a lot in understanding the students with autistic, i wish i could do more for them and understand them better.. this series really taught me a lot.. it’s so well written

They're palindromes. Spelled the same forwards and flipped, just like she said. Kayak, noon, racecar, etc. I'm sure others have pointed this out already but there's too many comments to go through, ha. Good video!
