Wow ! The NTS 1 is a great addition to the MS20… they all sound great, but the MS 20 has too much of a personality… It’s unique IMO. Great sounding synths! Like them all! Thanks for sharing!
@Sound_ology3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the NTS-1 goes perfectly with the MS-20! I just need to figure out a good way to mount it to the top or something to keep them together, the NTS-1 is so lightweight it moves around a lot.

Darn! that MS-20 is such a lovely synth, loads of personality definitively. Man!! how could you ditch the Pro 3? (have you re-bought it already?)

This is almost the exact setup I'm looking at (minus the pro 3) so it's great seeing them working together, helps out a ton on what to buy, thanks!

I wasn’t expecting that but.. Pro 3 for everything. Unless one wants an old sounding hyper raw sound of course. Then MS-20 (obviously).

Woah the MS20 was my favorite Moog patch. Pro 3; just a little to sharp, glassy. Matriarch a little too round and soft. MS20 was just right for me. Didn't expect that.
@Sound_ology2 жыл бұрын
That's a great way of putting it! I think I feel the same way...it's definitely the least touchy as far as filter cutoffs, huge sweet spots everywhere.

Damn, I have been considering selling my MS-20 to fund a new mono. Think I’ll be sticking with it! So much more explore on this beast.

Ooh, yeah I can never sell my MS-20....what were you considering swapping it out for?
@googlingthevoid Жыл бұрын
@@Sound_ology I was between the Matriarch, Pro 3 and Subsequent 37. The Taiga looks like fun too and may be nice to have in addition to the MS-20. I’m also watching the development of the PWM Mantis. The MS-20 was my first love in synthesis, so in the end, I think it would be a shame to sell. I may need to challenge my songwriting and sound design rather than swapping out gear.

Great video and really shows off how great the MS20 sounds. I ordered a clone to use alongside my Grandmother. I really like these raw kinds of synths. The Pro3 sounded great on the last patch, but I didn’t like it in the others. That said, the other synths did a great job with that last one as well and I honestly preferred them in that case too. This has really helped me to understand what kind of synth sounds I prefer.

Hello there. Great informative video! Was wondering how you have patched up the ms20 "imitating" the matriarch? Love that patch and like to recreate it with mine :) Best, Roland
@Sound_ology2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I decoupled the oscillators by patching Keyboard CV -> sample and hold -> Osc 2 Frequency. The S+H clock comes from the Keyboard Gate. Step 2 is to connect Env 1 to the Amp Gain, that way the filter envelope and amp envelope can be different. Finally I modulated the cutoff of the LPF with the LFO. No resonance on the filters...The tape delay on the Korg NTS-1 brings us much closer too.

I'm surprised by the MS-20's performance here (or rather your performance with it). My takeaways are not at all what I had expected when I began the video. I thought the Matriarch would be my favorite (as an owner of one, I thought that might bias me). But the MS-20 had a full, rich presence . The Matriarch on the other hand was dark, simmering and brooding easily. The Pro 3 felt most articulate, focused. MS-20 comes in first for me, followed by Pro-3, then Matriarch. Totally thought it would be exact opposite. I think I'll go dust off my MS-20 mini now =))
@Sound_ology3 жыл бұрын
I was impressed with the MS-20 too! Adding effects to it really made me realize how much it shines when put on a level playing field with the others. The Matriarch sounds awesome with the filters in series too, but there’s a little less play in the knobs since the filter slopes are steeper. And the Pro 3’s digital HPF is definitely a weakness but with all the other distortion options it makes up for it

You can hear the overtones in the MS20 are harmonically rich and musical. I like my Pro 3 a lot, but would consider the MS20. I'm selling my Matriarch as I can only keep one and the ability of the Pro 3 to save patches makes it practical in my line of music making...

Sounds reasonable, the Pro 3 has such a vast sonic palette, it’s like having 3 synths

which reverb are u using on the identifiable pro 3 patch? and is the wobble from an lfo which is modulating pitch or shape mod? great work here!

thank you for sharing : I am into Pro 3 and want to choose between Moog Studio (complete Set Moog Mother-32, DFAM and Subharmonicon) or Matriarch what will you recommend ??
@Sound_ology2 жыл бұрын
I think you’ll get more out of the Moog Sound Studio, you can always use the keyboard from the Pro 3 to control and enhance it. It’s a totally different instrument though! Like if we pretended that the Pro 3 and Matriarch were guitars then the Moog Sound Studio would be more of a drum set.
