I can't believe just how many good sounds are in it. I wish my first synthesizers had such features in the 80's. Thanks for sharing your review :)

Congrats welcome to MX family! Ive had no complaints with the performance of the MX since its got the MOTIF guts (i noticed you wrinkled your nose at the Grand Piano setting.. turn up the cutoff "A" knob and it brightness up nicely) its a very easy synth to navigate and user friendly.. I think im the only one with a channel doing mix's with a MX synth.. so far its handled about every thing I can throw at it.. all sort of styles and genre.. feel free to check it out. =)

Can you record the synths on Logic Pro only using USB ? On the MX ?

I was thinking of getting an MX49, but got some unexpected cash and gotten a MODX6+ instead. I also have a Motif 6, which acts up sometimes. But the piano's on it sound better than the MODX+ at first, but then I found I can transfer any patch from the Motif over to the MODX+.

Tawnie, there is a really cool six and a half minute video on you tube showing some of features of the MX 49 synth. That really is an amazing and versatile keyboard. Great choice!!!

Im really tempted with this keyboard. I currently have the Novation Impulse 61, which is semi weighted and does have after touch, which this doesnt, but it is controller only, and I miss being able to just turn on and play without having to turn computer on, load up cubase, load up vsts, potentially update licences etc. each time, you can lose your song writting note taking elements. I wonder how this sounds recording wise, and using midi in/out to tweak a performance. Thanks for the demo.

It wasn't bad, but I didn't like how light the keys were, no weight to them at all really, so it was hard to play with dynamics
@MarlonKingShow3 жыл бұрын
@@tawnielucasmusic Thanks, I must admit, semi weighted is almost as bad, as there is not a proper weight to it so makes it more tricky to predict how much pressure. light keys are fine for some synth work but not ideal for two handed piano parts and similar.

I love the sounds on my Yamaha MX49, but I just wish I could get a module or a VST version of it instead to save space.

Hi Tawnie, great review, thanks for sharing! I am about to buy this keyboard used, do you know if there is some kind of serial number code in the original box that I need? Sometime these keyboards needs to register in the official website in order to use install the drivers, any idea? Thanks in advance for your help!

Also, can I ask, do the sounds sound dated by todays standards against VSTs? or you still impressed with quality? thank you
@tawnielucasmusic3 жыл бұрын
after a while I wasn't into the sounds that much, I traded it in for a full length electric piano.
@Javkillers3 жыл бұрын
I have this synth and the acoustic voices are great. The electronic voices are still good but they are a bit dated, specially if you want to make electronic music.
@MarlonKingShow3 жыл бұрын
@@tawnielucasmusic Thank you, yeah, I already have a Yamaha Electric Piano down stairs, tempted to just bring it up and use that instead. Thanks for the update, appreciated
@MarlonKingShow3 жыл бұрын
@@Javkillers - Thank you, this is what I thought might be the case as can always buy updates to VSTs a lot easier and cheaper. A shame external sound modules cost so much to be so dated. to get a rack mount of motif is 2-3 times the cost of this MX. crazy for a set of dated sounds.

They usually need a firmware upgrade but that one looks quite modern

If you just have the power cord plugged in with headphones coming out of the board can you hear it? Or do you need to always be connected to an amp?
@RexyFan4 жыл бұрын
Duncan Cayenne-McCall You’ll hear it with headphones only. You don’t need an amp. I use my headphones for practise.

Thanks, Tawnie, that was really interesting! Those fingers glided sprightly across those keys. I heard about 20 hooks, intros and riffs! Great luck with it. I love synth, especially bold bass synth chords (guy thing?) in alternative rock, my fave genre. 😁 In a favorite oldies song of mine from the 60s, 'Telstar', by the Tornadoes, they use a synthesizer precursor called a clavioline. You'll see the player hit the octave switch at outro. You'll also recognize the eerie sound of oldies sci-fi movie music they made with it(!). The sound mixer, actually seen at the opening scene goofing with knobs, actually recorded three tracks to make the synth form chords because it could only sound single notes. 🚀 kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYGnp6aCiNOIfcU
