I had one for over a year that wasn't factory (I bought it at Guitar Center and thought it was). I recently just reset (not knowing) it and it's like a new synth! BTW, I own a LOT of synths, including a MODX7, DJX-1 and DJX-2, and this one is still one of my favorites.

I have been saving up for my first real synth for a while and looking for the most hands-on & sounding great without a daw -but fairly priced first real synth. The design and functionality with this looks like I would not be bored for many years to come.. btw does it work with soundmondo or other place where people upload new patches to share ? Really nice video demonstration , a good mix of sounds & styles!!

Great video! You do the best job of showing the machines possibilities. Can you tell me if the performance or rhythm mode will continue to play when you stop pressing keys? I had the idea that when I'm not playing the keyboard itself, I might use it as an accompaniment machine while I play my guitar. Kind of like what they used to call a "band in a box". I would find a nice groove, get it playing and then grab my guitar and play along. Is this possible? I saw on several occasions, you took your hands off the keys and the sound would continue. I really like this keyboard and would love to get one. Using it as an accompaniment machine would be icing on the cake. Thank you again for your videos.

Witam, jestem ciekawa czy ta stacja robocza dałaby radę obsługiwać 2-3 synthy na raz... nigdy ze stacjami nie miałam do czynienia, ale cosik kusi żeby spróbować jak to smakuje, żeby za równo mogło służyć jako kontroler MIDI do innych synthów na osobnych kanałach, jak i osobno samo w sobie... czy tak się w ogóle z nimi da? ciekawa jestem czy takie niedrogie stacje robocze dadzą radę obsługiwać inne synthy poprzez osobne kanały MIDI? a nie tylko programy DAW i VST? i pytanie, bo macie Yamahę, czy one są łatwe, intuicyjne w obsłudze? szczególnie właśnie przy sterowaniu innymi sprzętami? i czy można na nich zapisywać własne brzmienia czy jak tam zwał na stacjach?

Congrats. You will LOVE it. It took me a little while to get my pulse on it's structure (Performances), and even though I've had it over a year I haven't really dove in as much as I should, but I can tell you: as someone who owns a LOT of (Roland, Korg, Moog, Behringer, Arturia, Elektron, Novation, Dave Smith.including four other Yamahas, etc etc. )...this MX is one of my top three favorites. I use it mainly to play Funk and Hip-Hop in addition to what I call "Phreak beats." I bought it used (Mint) for like $450 and it is BY far the best deal I think I've had with synths.

How do you find 3/4 time signature on the internal drum beats ? Or other time signatures at that. Mx49 majority has 4/4 time.

Is it possible to prevent the drums from triggering by themselves on certain sounds in performance mode?

I'm not sure, but i think you can edit the performances. You can's completely remove the drums, but you can set the volume to zero. I have both a MX88 and a MX49. I've been trying to find a way to eliminate all the performances to free up this memory slots. Out of 128 performances, i find absolutely none that i would consider using.

You can change instruments, drums, layers and splits on any performance channel. Just have to save the changes

Ive asked this question to an experienced keyboard player who gigs alot, and he said the difference is very noticeable in live performances thru an amp or pa system......the yamaha mx has 128 notes of polyphony...the Casio is only 48...it makes a big difference...

only way is manual, having to record it through software and then using it as a sample. its been the only way i could do it unless someone knows a better way or theres a secret on the keyboard

You can layer up to 16 parts if you want but need a special software just to edit the midi channel so you can trigger all the parts at once...which is not allowed to edit on the keyboard itself. You can mix 16 parts using the mix section on the keyboard and you can (from factory) layer only two sounds which are part 1 and part 2. With the software I talked about you could layer up to 16 parts but have in mind the MX is only 128 polyphony which it sucks. By editing the sounds and the midi channels you can control and mix up to 3 parts in real time using Volume knob, AS1 and AS2 as volume knobs. The software in question is Vycro MX which is no longer available but there another software on John Melas motif site. Is not free but it can do the job.

I own this same blue board. I have not found a piano sound that sounds better! I have notice that whenever I am playing at a church who haves the same board in a 88 key, it sounds a hot mess coming through their sound system with no keyboard amp! I hate that! That disrespects that great sound that board can produce.

Acceptable drums on preset 56. Nice tone but these are some dated sounds. Those dance/electronic tracks are right out of the 80s & 90s. I want to hear what this thing can really do before I decide on it.

I am returning mine because it does not do all that the review says. Also the Ext.Music player DOES NOT LOOP. I simply play the length of the track and boom sTop. I researched this I am appears it is not designed to LOOP non stop. To me this a a big draw back. Hence I am returning it right away. No to mention it does not have any built-in memory to save anything. What a LOSS !
