I love the subtext of dumping out the instruments and components like trash as though to suggest "heres all this junk, but the synthesizer only needs this!" It must have been so exciting during that time as computers were becoming more affordable - the possibilities must have seemed endless as more powerful hardware would allow you to stack overtones and filter them!

just think about the time - a few years before there was no such technology, only technical skills on the instrument and the focus on playing. The generation grew up with a different point of view as these days... then technology was new and exciting, everybody tried to push the boundaries... I really appreciate Steve's efforts in his other books (eg. sounddesign with Midi in 'the midi book', sampling book, or playing with style...)

i think the reason hes so ruthless with the instruments is to give ya confidence in that you are in control. it stops people being intimidated by the instruments.

There is very little info about the presenter Steve. Being such an expert i thought he might have played keyboards with various famous people ??

I think 'the midi book' tells you everything you need to know about MIDI in theory and practice. Same high quality info like here :) Here you go (click on the pic, with 'look inside' you can see the table of contents & the first pages!): amazon.c om/MIDI-Book-Syntharts-Steve-Furia/dp/0881885142 steve de furia info 1995: soundonsound.c om/sos/1995_articles/jun95/stevedefuria.html

outdated - maybe only to some extend cause MIDI never changed, was and is still 1.0 (!). Among others he shows the practical use of MIDI eg. to build one sound out of two or more sources (synths)...

So does he show how to 'chain' modules together and stuff like 'program change', 'sys ex', 'in, out, thru' etc ?? i still use HARDWARE on gigs (ie. not a laptop/vsti) so i just wondered if it was worth a quick read as a re-fresher ??

So you have read Steve's other books in the series ?? And you think these books are good ?? i have seen some on ebay but (say with the MIDI book) thought they might be too outdated for use ??
