Hi Markus good vid, I have been scrapping old gear for years if you want good stuff try to get hold of on old organ some have great keyboards which can be used for a synth they are available free on gumtree and eBay a lot most people want to give them away or very cheap ! Well in Scotland ! I have built a lot of gear from scrap parts including a Minimoog although I had to make a lot of bits, thanks for posting Steve

There's one chip on that HZ-600 board that you MUST extract. The NJM/JRC2090 is a 5V 4-pole VCF chip, custom-made for Casio. It's really warm and can be nicely controlled, would make a fantastic DIY filter box! Search KZbin for modified HT-700 and/or modified MT-600 to hear it in action!
@markusfuller9 жыл бұрын
+Kerry Bradley Hi Kerry I have already eyed those up for extraction, theres 2 of them on this board. but thanks for the youtube search info I will go and watch those. Best wishes from Markus

The 6 pin IC connected to the MIDI in is probably an opto isolator.
@markusfuller9 жыл бұрын
+PWMaarten Yes it is an Opto Isolator its standard on all midi inputs across almost all midi devicesI thought I said that so I watched the video again - I cant believe I said Op-amp "ouch" thanks for pointing that out.

+markusfuller and a new one cost 3-4€ +shiping :O so, its very clever to keep them ;)
@markusfuller9 жыл бұрын
The main reason i keep components like this is the time it saves from having to wait for shipping. some components are very cheap but if you do not have one it can take days for it to arrive.
@303otto9 жыл бұрын
markusfuller yeah, thats the main thing i hate too.. waiting for parts :( atm i'm waiting for 10k potis (20pcs) from asia.. man, it feels like aaaaaages :/ Without having them, my project stands still... meh.. :(

@markusfuller9 жыл бұрын
+James Porch Its a shame i had to strip it down but there was just too much work to get it going again. Im sure the spares will donate eventually into other gear. PS hows the new synth ?. Im getting some interesting sounds from mine :-) put it through a few effects and it sounds BIG

If this is the synthesizer I think it is (a Casio hybrid synth with spectrum dynamic synthesis).... When you got a hybrid synthesizer on your hands Markus. If i'm not mistaken me this unit got both a VCF and a DCA for the filter and Amp section. If you still got the parts can build yourself either an analogue- or a hybrid synthesizer with DSP based oscillators. Cheers Daniel Fletcher of D.S. (a Swedish synthrock / synthpop group)

You should have added a warning though. One never has enough space to keep all the parts one might one day have a use for. Maddness lurks there. I'm speaking out of experience, believe me! :-)

Another good video. Off to find out about the Casio HZ-600, as it's a model I've not heard of.
@markusfuller9 жыл бұрын
+Michael Smith hi michael, it was an interesting synth but there was just too much work required to repair this and i do not think it would have been an amazing synth sadly.
@Michael_Smith-Red_No.59 жыл бұрын
What you had there, looked a bit unpromising in terms of a rebuild. The HZ-600, though is bonzer! It sounds freaking great. A bitch to edit, and many other foibles, but they sound really nice; and the giant wheel is always good.
@markusfuller9 жыл бұрын
+Michael Smith Yes but things were missing and I have removed a few components only to find they are dead. The transistor I used for (how to test transistors video) came out of this and theres a few other dead bits so I guess some of the chips could be fried also. Believe me I did a few days looking and some tests before i decided to kill it.
@Michael_Smith-Red_No.59 жыл бұрын
markusfuller I literally had just come back from the other parts of the internet, and realized how nice this synth sounds. My last comment was to mourn how it wasn't practically repairable. I'm in the market for one, now.
@Michael_Smith-Red_No.59 жыл бұрын
Not yours, of course. But they're out there. And sounding nice.

I have an ht3000 and ht700, which are pretty much the same than the hz600. They are polyphonic digital oscillator synths with a single analog filter. I learned synths on the ht3000 back in 1988. It's sad to see this hz600 dismantled, but I understand you got good reasons. I would suggest that you try to salvage the analog filter and vca chip. As you said in the video, that could make an interesting project.
@markusfuller9 жыл бұрын
+sasarasa88 I did spend few days looking into it and realising there was just too much to replace and gamble that it would sing after days of work. but parts will be donated to other causes so it will still live on (partially).
@gjnieuwenhuis24406 жыл бұрын
Bit off topic: What scope are you using? I'm looking for a decent scope for synthesizer repairs (not for other but to maintain my own old equipment).

I like this vid Marcus, stripping the components is something I've often done due to a lack of skills, knowledge or parts. Or if you can't salvage it - repurpose it. Perhaps it would have just functioned OK as a MIDI controller? But I do like Capo Donatellos' suggestion of a MF One synth project. That would be one badass MF ;)
@markusfuller9 жыл бұрын
+brickscratch Hi It could not even function as a midi controller. theres was just so many dead parts around the power etc and strange voltages in the wrong places. I hope some of the parts can go to good use. Yes a MF-one synth. yes i have the ideas but not all the knowledge needed to build the monster i want to create. maybe I am thinking about it the wrong way and should try building individual units up to plug together ?. Hmm my brains ticking now. tick tock tick tock ???
