@The Tired Horizon Same here! In Sweden you can't find one for under €1000, and it's usually the Ti, Ti2 or C that you can find. I would love to have A or B. For the time I'm pretty happy with the Motorola DSP563xx emulator that was just released. It's a bit of work to install and setup, but it sounds amazingly close to the real deal!

@@mck-gr Yep! Or at least as close to it as you can get. Chip emulators are usually way more "perfect" than the chip they are emulating, and this one is as well. However, the audio itself is more or less identical to what you would get out of a hardware Virus.

I have a Rack and luckily can tell you that Virus synths are easy to repair. I changed the display, knobs and condensors from the PSU myself. Cost about 15 EUR al together. And few hours of reading schematics and work I guess. So, don't fear when anything starts to break down.

Well......it was the first one, after all ;) the 80 voice TI, with the supersaw, wave tables, great effects, TP8/s, and all the channels, it’s a monster, beyond cliche. To really love this one today might take a certain taste. Thank you for all these sweet videos, your knowledge and musicianship inspire me and many others.
@spiralmoment

I really love these synths for their sound. I also have a b and Ive had a c and I know many people that had ti's, But there's just nothing that sounds like the og with its old gritty 20bit converters. I personally have no interest in newer viruses because I don't think they have any character like the old ones. I just have a massive love for the first couple of generations of va's also Nords and Waldorfs.
@1milanz69
@1milanz69 Жыл бұрын
Well to elaborate on what you said I fell in love with their sound as soon as I started hearing it in techno productions in the mid nineties.That was the unmistakable Nord Lead. My first VA synth was the strange Ob12 which gave me tinnitus after headphones exposure to digital filter’s wild feedback (the thing has massive jumps in volume on a few knobs like fm and resonance) followed with the polished An1x and the gritty Virus, the original. By this time (2002), I was already highly addicted to VA but switched to mono analog to give it a different direction. After an 8 years pause, I decided I needed a JP8080 instead of the Juno 106 I was repairing and which I always felt too basic for me (having cut my teeth on ESQ-1 in 1987). I proceeded with a deal on a Blofeld another one on a blue Q rack and a third one on NR2X. That’s where my VA craze ended already surrounded by many other synths. All I can say is I kept everything. I also worked with supernova 2, MS2000. Only regret not having own ION and MWxt (not a VA) but these I decided to pass due to reliability issues. Either way that’s my VA story, I think I’m the same generation as Paolo, that doesn’t make us any younger but who cares as long as we have nice toys🤣

@uhoh007
@uhoh007 Ай бұрын
@@moe47988 The A has many serious fans, whose praise I have read over the years. It’s a distinct synth, a milestone, and for your ears might be superior to later models. I did not mean to say one is better, but there is no question the TI has more features, which I often have used. It’s a good guitar amp for one thing. But the TI can’t really be an A, as some key components are different. See above.

@neolepic
@neolepic 10 ай бұрын
Yes. It has a very dark tone, which is perfect for some late 90s Psytrance and Future Pop but also some 80s Darkwave. For a digital Synth it has also very snappy envelopes. But it lacks real oomph, but paired with a Arp 2600 or Pro One it’s brilliant.

Buon anno, Paolo! I hope that all is well with you and your family! I've been longing for a virus (kinda ironic in the age of covid!) for several years now. I was wondering if you have any experience with the other models. I've heard conflicting reports about the tonal characteristics of each incarnation. Any insight? My instinct is to get a TI2 to get the maximum polyphony and to take advantage of all the other options they added on. My thought was that the core engine is still there so I can get patches like these from the Virus A if I want to, but I'll have the increased sonic palette available from the greater processing power along with much more polyphony. Yet, there are those who say that the newer models don't sound as good. Thoughts?
