These days software got it right, there's no doubt. But hardware stills sounds different, better, in a sense for me. It's not because the dsp or the DAC converters (as some snobs will say). The relationship with the instrument is different. The UI design, te quirks, the knobs, make it a very different experience. I have an old Nord Lead 2. Has a super old VA engine, one of the first. I think there's an emulation comming (same as virus dsp). Still, the ancient Synth 1 plug is modeler after, even the old Reason's substractor it's pretty similar (designer by the same engineer). But the ease of use, almost one knob per parameter, the morphing, have the 4 parts at your fingertips, the amazing wooden pitch (the best pitch stick ever, can do actual vibratos amazingly)... Always I fire up the thing some crazy performance and sounds comes naturally... never got the same from a plug in. But I'm super biased in a way. I work all day long as a sound designer, and keep in front of the computer to do stuff . Will keep these on my computer for sure. Super convenient have them in the DAW.

@@Tonepusher not at all...was a love hate. Was my first hardware synth in 2007 and was a gift. Thats was the reason why was hard to sell but if was not the sentimental value that thing did not aged well and the lack of support by the brand that initially was the main selling point really pissed me off. also it had psu issues so yeahhh...I think it's a matter of time until we see it selling below 500. Was cool synth in 2007 the same way MC303 was a nice drum machine in the 90s 🤣

Maybe it's my nostalgia that is talking but I'd prefer an Hybrid synth like the evolution of the Snow maybe. But I 100% agree, they should at least release it as a software.

Access could have just updated the plugin for m1 silicon instead they cheaped out and somone came alone and totally reverse engineered the shark processors and then built a taylor made gui on top of a virus ti code emulator. The usual suspects developers did more in 4 years than access did in a decade if not longer... Its kind of karma if you ask me.
@Tonepusher7 ай бұрын
That's a very interesting point of view. I don't know sh** about coding. Didn't know that! thanks for sharing
@jim61867 ай бұрын
@@Tonepusher I don't know much about coding either but what these developers are doing is taking synyhs that use the Motorola sharc processors and basically reverse engineering the code to be read on x86 and arm64 processes which are basically just modern day personal computer architectures. Since any digital hardware architecture can usually be understood as a computational framework, anyone who has the time and resources can build the same virtual framework inside a computer with the caveat that the developer should need to understand how both work which is easier said than done. Considering Christophe Kemper developed the virus TI to communicate front to back with computers, I have to assume these developers chose the Motorola chip because of already demonstrated real world communication and integration with x86 (common windows PC) architectures. Christoph Kempwr the maker of the virus stopped updating the software for the ti and so anyone who owned one and used it on a Mac stopped being able to run it on new Mac's forcing people to look for things like this. The silver lining for Kemper and access music is this will likely force them to release a new virus model out of fear that this is going to tank any old virus revenue... Interesting indeed.

PROMOTING FREE OR PROMOTING PIRACY ???? It certainly is not free to own a Ti and to correct you in the description you wrote VIRUS TI emulation which it is not..... They emultated the DSP chips from Motorola and the ORIGINAL firmware is not emulated but simply runs on the emulated chips......

lol It is free. Free like you click and it's loading... After that I'm not responsible of what you're doing with it.
@TooSlowTube3 ай бұрын
There's more to it than just emulating one chip. They made a whole UI around that emulated chip - a different one for each in the series - and a synth is never just one chip.

I guess it's what you like yourself in terms of genre/sounds. Like mentioned it's that 2000's - 2010's Industrial and EBM synth. I never liked that new Industrial harsh square wave/saw tooth sound and more like a late 80's/early 90's EBM sounds guy so it's not really in my ball park either. it seems to have some nice lush pads though which peaks my interest in it a bit more. Makes me wonder about the softer sounds/plucks/leads it can be capable of 🤔
@Tonepusher7 ай бұрын
@@kenn_foxx5563 Well I think it was associated with that sound because of the era it came out, and the factory presets. Tbh, that thing can make any type of sound. I'm also a huge 80s-90s industrial fan.
