Fabulous. I’ve been fascinated by phase shifting ever since I came across it in 1979. Cheers. Lee

thanks! I do share that fascination. I find it fascinating in particular that it is what we mostly try to avoid in music - the insynchronicity - that can lead to very captivating music.

Brilliant tricks, and oh boy it is so satisfying to see the lights on the Deluge follow the notes, that inspires in itself already.

I believe this is possible within a clip, too, because there's independent row length. be interesting to chuck in some probabilities/iteration counts too.

really great video, easy to follow and super informative. great sounds too. I have been avoiding my deluge because I haven't got my oled refit yet. I hate the digit display

Thanks! for me it's the other way around. I feel weirdly attached to the digit display😂

You progress from a simple rhythmic phase shifting (like Reich's "Clapping Music") into polyphony and complex layering of different shifting patterns very quickly. How long were these ideas in gestation? Did you just see the potential and it just snowballed? I love stories from the history of electronic music, where coincidental elements collide to generate something greater than the parts. In the early days of The Human League, before their first and only great album, "Travelogue", they used to claim that they'd set the instruments running, switch on the tape recorder and go off down to the pub, have a drink then come back to see what they got. How much truth there is in that I don't know but in their early days they made some wonderful, radical music.

I love playing around with different length patterns and the deluge makes this so easy and fun. Then it occurred to me that by having patterns of only a very slight difference in length one could easily achieve this kind of minimalist thing which I alway found very intriguing (ever since I first saw Koyaanisqatsi). From there on it's just trial and error for. No way I could predict the outcome of this kind of thing. So I guess a trip to the pub isn't the worst idea:) Thanks for the music recommendation again. I'm listening to "travelogue" right now, great stuff!

you can actually clone Patches! Create New track / Load + Synth / find the patch you want to copy and long press Load :)
