Brian's video on his "The New Atlas" channel about Syria yesterday is essential viewing. It's time for China to take off the gloves ad the geopolitical war ramps up. It's good to see China slapping sanctions on US military firms. I would love to see more Chinese people boycott US goods & stick to home made products. I agree with Brian's greater point that a nation must have control over its media, including social media, or it risks having its own citizens become foreign agents. However, I believe that such a development is infeasible for small countries or countries without a robust economy. A BRCS-based or multipolar social media platform would be an interesting development, indeed. My belief is that as US hard power wanes, they will still be able to utilize soft power for their own geopolitical interests. Too many people respect the BBC or Reuters even though they are known propagandists for hegemonic forces. We need something akin to a CGTN world service. A visible and well-funded organization that can challenge the imperial narrative.

What Brian says is critical. As China seeks to play a bigger role on the world stage, it will have to raise it's game in the intelligence gathering and information space. I'm not a geopolitical global studies strategist or specialist. I'm thinking that China needs to be very careful in monitoring the current situation in Syria ( or what's left of Syria as a country as such ) and surrounding counties. This region now can become a training hub for Jihadists with the support of the USA and allies. Being the type of imperialist beasts that they are the USA and allies will attempt again to destabilise Xinjiang by infiltrating Jihadists into the region. Just a thought.
