In todays video we do a little experiment, will syrup have a positive affect on the bees earlier on in the year or will it set them back...time will tell. I hope you enjoy!

I can now see why Pagham kept flooding! I'd pick the fondant over the syrup too 😂

That's the first crown board I've seen cracked this year. Good luck with the experiment. I'm sticking with fondant, for now.

We had 13-14 degree sun that day, still holding back from the inspections though!

Just did our first March look in. Fondant being taken with enough to keep them going. Have added a super with just a few initial frames on the stronger colony- may add some syrup in a week’s time and see if any wax gets drawn. Nice video and interesting to see your thinking.

Thank you! We were thinking about adding a super to the strongest hive we have but I’m just holding off a little longer the nights are still a bit chilly here at the moment

The spacing between frames in some of your hives is a mess. You have to fix that. In the first hive you show, there is a mix of Hoffman and straight sidebars and there is not enough space between some of the frames to draw full depth worker cells on both sides while maintaining enough space between the frames for access. In the second hive, some of the frames are too far apart and the bees will draw cells that are too long for the queen to lay into.

I know when we first started out we got confused with all these different types of frames, I don’t really want to change the frames at the moment, would you suggest castellations to help with this?
