System of a Down - Ariels in the Sky reaction. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3Tdknyqq9KMnpY
@MrHotsnakes3 жыл бұрын
The song was originally called Suicide but the record company refused to release it under that name. So they cut/chopped suicide in half hence Chop Suey. Great reaction by the way
@ben1ben3 жыл бұрын
Great Reaction. Daron (The Guitarist) said the song is about how people are unfairly judged when they lose their life because of a drug addiction or because of suicide. "I cry when angels deserve to die" is basically saying it makes him sad when good people die because of their unfortunate circumstances. "grab a brush and put a little makeup, hide the scars to fade away the shakeup, why'd you leave the keys up on the table" essentially saying people put on "makeup" and hide their pain to avoid judgement, and that if your going to commit suicide you wont need your keys to get back in the house. For the bridge the singer Serj actually randomly opened a bible and put his fingers on a paragraph and it was the "father into your hands I commend my spirit" part, It's actually very interesting If you wanna find out more about how it came that Serj randomly picked a book and stuff, here is a link for a 6 minute video that's explaining it, the singer himself also talks about it kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZmqipWAirCdZ9k . Then they played off of that and related it to the overall theme of the song. Really deep song by System of a Down, but most people don't realize it because of how intense the song is. The name of the song is Chop Suey because it was called Suicide but it had to have a more radio friendly name so they chopped the word suicide and just for the joke they called it Chop Suey. More System of a Down, they are amazing. They literally don't have a single bad song or album. Check out their song Question! and also songs are there for peoples own interpretation so it doesn't necessarily mean what you thought this song is about was wrong.

Excellent comment. Amazing how different meanings can come out of one song and actually align with the words in multiple meanings. I have not watched the video above about how they came about some of the words....but my initial thought is.... someone is pulling our leg when they say they accidently opened up the Bible (which is comprised of 66 books, 1,189 chapters and 15,551 verses) pointed their finger at the very verse of Jesus committing his spirit to God. That verse is the crux of the entire Bible. A one in 15,551 chance. I will watch that video, but if it really happened that way, it was God almighty who actually made that happen. It would have been an absolute miracle. Lol...I hope it was a miracle. It makes the story even better.
@ben1ben3 жыл бұрын
@@oldguyreactions Absolutely. I really think it was that one in 15,551 chance. The song blew up for a reason, the universe wanted it to happen 🤣

Stated before but you are probably the only song reviewer of this song on YT to know where the reference of the "why have you forsaken me" lyric and knowing its source. The singer stated in an interview he had writers block and went to his producer's library, picked out a book (the Bible),opened it, and put a finger on any page/line, and this was the text that it pointed to. Claims it was meant to be and fit with the song. Great job!
@oldguyreactions3 жыл бұрын
What is totally interesting is that the Bible is 66 different books by many different authors and one of the most prolific verses in the Bible and probably one of the most important is that verse and Jesus" final words. As cool as it sounds to have that kind of blind luck to just stick your finger in a 1,000 pages and land on that....I wpuld definitely question that luck. I can agree with writers block, but I am sure he read the entire crucifixion to pull those words out.. someone probably opened it up to that spot on purpose.. lol Having said that....maybe a miracle happened and it happened exactly how he described.. I do believe in miracles. Thank you for your awesome comment!

I didn't read the comments to see if someone else has said this but, That line thats starts with Father and then why have you forsaken me was taken from a book. Serg (the lead singer and writer of the song) had completed the song except for that section. He went to one of his producers (I think) and told him about the song and he needed to finish that section but was stuck. The guy told him to go over to the shelf (where there were tons of books) and grab any book and open to any page. He did and that is what was written on that page and that's how it made it into this song. There is a video on YT about this that tells it way better than I do but thats the basics of it.
@oldguyreactions2 жыл бұрын
Interesting information man....thank you. I guess the writer of the book was quoting Jesus. Jesus said: "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit, and Oh God, Oh God why have you forsaken me." It is what Jesus cried out while dying. It is cool that it made it to this song through a 3rd party book on the shelf without the singer even knowing about it. It totally touched me in the song and brought me meaning that may be completely different from what the writer was trying to get across. That is why I love music. It spoke to me even though the words may have a totally different meaning. Great comment man!

Great reaction mate, you looked for meaning in this song and it is packed like all of their material. If you haven't heard it, you really need to check your their song "B.Y.O.B.". It's not the general 'Bring Your Own Bottle/Beer', but "Bombs". The song was a protest to the Iraq invasion of the early 2000s and although comes across as a pacey metal song with lots of switch ups and a catchy/party hook, the meaning and lyrics is very very deep

The dish chop suey was invented in America by Chinese immigrants where they would take leftover chopped vegetables and mix it with left over meat and leftover noodles from other dishes with some sweet and sour sauce and soy sauce in a wok. It became a big hit in America and no 2 restaurants do it the same. It is one of the most common dishes found in Chinese take out, but it's also one of the ones that is never going to taste the same from place to place. The song title is a commentary on how America is a country founded and populated by the "leftovers" of other countries, mixed together and bound together by a common belief that things can get better by working together.

“Father into thy hands I commend my spirit” and “my God my God why have you forsaken me?” are two of the Seven Sayings spoken by Jesus as he died upon the cross. So that where those come from. The most famous is probably “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”

For one friend this song is about genre violence, which is really interesting. Wake up Grab a brush and put a little makeup Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup Why'd you leave the keys upon the table? Here we go to create another fable... The girl dies, so the man (probably in drugs: "FATHER part") was blaming God and then he commits suicide
