System Restore Windows 10 Safe Mode

How to do a System restore in Safe Mode on Microsoft Windows 10, 8, or 8.1 desktop, laptop notebook computer while in operating system or at start up. I will show you what to do if you can't get into System Restore if you can't boot into the normal Windows operating system.

When I ran my system restore to the last restore point, I had no choice but to run it from the safe mode, (windows won't boot to normal mode). Well it ran the last created restore point, which I created 4 days ago and am certain that the system was running fine then. However, my computer (windows 10 Pro 64 bit), did not show all that dialog that yours displayed throughout the process. It would indicate some of that info but in a small dialog box, not in big letters and I think there was a point in your process that I didn't see happen in mine, but can't be sure right now. Anyway, it said that the system restore point was successful. Keep in mind that prior to using this method, I ran the sfc /scannow and the DISM operations via safe mode. The two did report finding and fixing corrupted files, yet I still couldn't launch into Windows 10 normal mode. I also have a full backup that I created only about 7 days ago with EaseUS. However, I don't know if I can install the backup while in Safe Mode, (again, all I can get to is Windows Safe mode). Strangely, even though I select Safe Mode w/networking, it will not run safe mode with any internet connection. Maybe I need to try it all over again... I don't know... I've been at this for days and I'm running clean out of ideas. I'm not new to computers. I've been building my own computers (at least 7 systems 'from the ground, up', and many times, I've done major upgrades). The problem is that after I replaced my GPU and CPU with upgraded versions, everything went fine until it came time to install the drivers from the new GPU. I did that in safe mode and while in the process, the computer froze up. I then tried again but ran the DDU Graphics remover first. However, the process required a reboot to complete and the system froze in the shutdown stage. Then I installed the Graphics driver, (again, all this while in Safe mode and no internet). Once again, the process required a reboot, which failed to reboot to normal windows 10. It gets that all the way to the sign-on screen and then freezes up. Of course, I have the latest UEFI bios version, which I know works because I ran the previous CPU & GPU with the new Bios version. The new, replacement GPU and CPU installs are fine and I know that they're not hampering the boot to windows 10 in the normal mode. The reason I know this is because I replaced the two new processors with the two previous processors and still could not boot to Windows normal mode. I then re-replaced the two old processors with the new processors again and in Safe Mode, I ran DDU to remove the GPU Drivers. I sense that there is a issue having to do with the windows security systems but I can't be sure that they won't run if I turn them off and then restart the computer. I have confirmed that any security options in the UEFI have been disabled. It's the Windows O/S security that I can seem to confirm is turned off. I sense that this is a software problem and that it has to do with security and/or drivers, but how can I be sure? I want to run the back up that I have saved but I don't think I can while I'm in safe mode and, w/o any internet, I'm sure it makes it that much more difficult. I'm missing something.. I'm overlooking some little thing and that's what's causing all this and costing me serious lost time.

For anyone who can't boot to windows to use the SHIFT restart method, or MSCONFIG method in Windows 10, you can trigger the diagnostic mode during boot by holding your power button in until the PC powers off. Restart and boot and force the system off 3 times in a row and the diagnostic screen will load the next time, allowing in its menus to boot in Safe mode.

The actual creation of the restore points is very confusing, there seem to be three different kind of restore points you can make. One that's 30 GBs in size, where it appears to backup everything on the boot drive. And another that's about 20 MBs in size and that saves... I don't even know what.

Hi I was actually in my class and my laptop ate shit and lagged very badly. It had been doing that for a few days but this time It was completely unresponsive so I shut it down with the button and when I turned it back on it was doing the same shit. It also wouldn’t let me open ANY applications. I could click on them and move my mouse but it wouldn’t open them. I tried to check my task manager and see if I could cancel the task and start over but it would open up very slowly and then the computer would be unresponsive again. Eventually I decided to try this process and it was working so far but it’s not letting me open up the system recovery control panel? When I click on it nothing happens. Should I try to end the task in task manager and do it again and see if that helps??? Ty!

Okay so I’m still not able to open system recovery and it’s not one of my open tasks so I’m confused. Also my computer is still being very laggy while in safe mode and I’m not sure why. The It’s a dell Inspiron I got in 2018 and I just really want to fix it bc I need it for school but I might just get a different laptop because I’ve already had to get this one fixed once before (the SSD stopped working)

Hi, I had a problem before where I can't login with my correct password. So I did a system store by Hold Shift key and restart method. I able to go to system store and successfully restore my computer to a previous point and now I can login again. After share this to all my friends they all told me when the go to system restore it asked for password which they don't remember. Mine didn't ask for password. Do you have any idea why mine doesn't ask for password and their ask for password?

my bran new (refurbished) pc was running mildly slow from start but i dealt with it, then after two weeks i go to turn it on and a black screen for up to an hour before it even boots and can log in. only thing i can think of is doing a system restore point, but it wont finish the task because the antivirus is enabled. will this safe mode restart allow me to do a restore point as im trying to do, or could you recommend any other thing that would solve my black screen for up to an hour at start up..thanks!

How do I access this menu from boot? I use win 10 but my system has Dell backup and recovery (dunno why, it’s not a Dell PC) that it keeps booting into, but it keeps failing and turning off. I boot back up, automatically taken to the Dell B&R, it fails and turns off and repeat.

if your asking how to go into safe boot when your in the login screen press and hold shift then click the power button and click restart while holding shift and you should see a screen that says restart and once you see restart it will bring you to another screen click 5 on your keyboard you should be on safe mode

Try using the Windows 10 media creation tool and create a bootable USB/CD/DVD. Boot your computer from it....and select the "Repair" option instead of "Install" to launch the troubleshooting utility and try and perform a system restore.
