Dear Systema instructors, Congratulation on the video which has been a mixture of medium to high-level ways of handling knife attacks, probably intended for medium to advanced students, omitting the the beginners mentioned in the preface of the presentation. As it has been poointedf out, people when attacked are somehow overwhelmed by fear and other kinds of emotions, which is typical for beginners mostly unable to take the effective actions as presented. Having seen several videos of the Systema , I can only appreciate the mindful, strikingly simple yet creative approcach in solving critical situations as a knife-attack is in fact. This presentation has won the participants sympathy, but if intended for the wide public, a structurral, at least three -level grading of the presentation could add to the effect for those less trained. Breaking down the seminar into basic, intermediate and higher level solutions could have helped even the beginnners in some way and also prevent inappropriate reactions to the videa, mostly stemming from misunderstanding the ability to see the good intentions of the instructors. Keeping slow or medium-speed of the presentation is good for pointing out the important detailes of the movements but adding culminating each exercise in a high speed knife handling would persuade even those sceptical about the efficiency of the Systema. Yours sincerely, Pavol Bajusz, retired instructor of Goju-ryu Karate

I tried Systema, very good punching system... But dancing with a knife I do not believe. Not in the street. Knife stab but also cut... With a sharp one it's impossible to stop that way without getting hurt. Second thing, a knife fighter doesn't show his knife like this, he keeps it near his body and use distance for punching... But I repeat Systema got great stuff to learn, no martial art is perfect, depend on situation...

I love and respect |Russian people and culture BUT those techniques against a knife are too slow, you cannot save yourself against a real attack using these techniques, the punching and bullying techniques of the teachers or their ballistic is ok, a bit like some friends in china, they can smash bricks to pieces using many parts of the hand and yet we must take some words of wisdom from bruce lee, 'boards don't hit back' yes you can strike bricks and smashed them or hurt compliant students but how about a moving target who wants to kill you, that I'd like to see, also he said something about taiji something like if Im training for the hundred metres why jog? When you move slowly in Taiji forward you move one leg to the other placing all your weight on each foot, this doesnt happen when you walk or move at speed and so the idea that what you do slowly relates to what happens at speed is nonsense, another point is that the systema techniques of evasion and attack use fine motor skill many times, when you fight nomatter how much you try to relax cortisol/adrenaline will be released and those fine motor skills go out the window, the reason these guys look good IS because they are relaxed, why? Cause they are demos and not real and therefore do not stimulate fight/flight CNS response that has taken God knows how long to evolve.
