Personally I like it when Brian is transparent and honest about his struggles. I like having a person who feels real and relatable while also being successful. KZbin has enough fake talking heads, we need more people with the bravery to tell it like it is.

Same. I'm over KZbin people acting like they're running for president.

Absolutely. There is a traveling van guy who made a magnificent video detailing his not just his very real struggles during the beginning of his van building, but his efforts to overcome them, and then removed it because he thought it was too depressing. But it was actually the video that got me to subscribe to him and come back enthusiastically for more, hoping he would develop and grow and bump into more interesting challenges and hopefully some happiness and success. If you've already achieved everything, if you have no journey, what is there to watch?

The problem with current tipping isn’t with the fanciest restaurants who have high expectations for the wait staff, it is with every other food service expecting 15-20% tips for counter service or even takeout. Also, multi-billion dollar companies should not have below minimum wage tip employees.

RE the tipping thing - Take salary vs hourly pay as the case example. Salary it doesn't matter how many hours you jam in. You get paid X. Hourly, you can jam 20 hour days and get paid 20 hours for each day you give. And then you get extras for late shifts, holiday, etc. There are rockstar bartenders that turn in thousands on the holidays. And they'd NEVER give up that kind of gig with that kind of perk. The real problem is, people in America don't equate tipping to a return on their personality and courtesy and effort. They equate tipping with the requirement. It's just going to happen regardless of what they do.

Love this episode! I was gonna say about tipping, I used to work as a hairstylist where I had a base rate and then get tips having that structure really makes a difference. I changed careers (I changed to graphic design which really made me sad when you talked about ai because that hit too close to home) and I actually make less than what I did doing hair and I used to work less hours (I worked in a sport clips so lots of quick cuts and trying up sell products) because of the amount of tips I would make (I also have a lot of carpal tunnel in my right hand and I’m happier out of that industry even though there is tech that could replace me, it’s fine because we need someone running that tech and I’m building my skills to be that person)

Nigel gets to keep his Uncle Roger persona while he goes exploring into the creepy unknown. That's gonna be a hit for another different target audience. Anyways it's just a thought now i'm nearing towards the end of the interview 🤷🏻

Since you guys brought it up, restaurants are some of the worst businesses because profit margins are already generally low. So they require you to have tiers and hierarchies of pay that are so disparate it makes living on those wages nearly impossible. You want to know what a waiter/waitress would prefer instead of tipping? A guaranteed 75k a year with health benefits. But because of the restaurant structure, the only people making anywhere near that much are managers (maybe) and owners. The solution is profit sharing. Because you can't pay high wage the business is not guaranteed to make but you can pay a decent wage and offer people a piece of the pie.
