I've read that after ww II Polish government wasn't sure about future of Szczecin, because it was german city, and they didn't wan't to invest in its development. Maybe it's the reason that they still don't treat Szczecin the same as other Polish cities. And it's a shame... Szczecin has a great location and it is a beautiful city with a big pottencial.

@@jeanvaljean7266 Well, I must say, that I was born in this city, and I live here for 28 years now, I know its history not only from school but just from walking its streets- almost every old building has a notification on wall about its owner and year that it was build. Besides, if you don't belive it, just check old maps and you will see, that Szczecin was almost always german. Well, just look how you wrote its name: Stettin. That's an original name of it. And you honestly think it sounds polish? In polish it's SZCZECIN. If you don't agree, why do you use german name? Well, it's not only mistake in this movie. But I don't blame the authors, because many Polish people from other cities don't know anything about Szczecin.

@konjoc

@@caro35able It;s simple. The name of the city comes from the Pomeranian language. The Pomeranian language contained elements of Czech, German and Polish, translating it into contemporary times. Many names of Polish and German cities are similar because in the process of conquest and annexation, the Germans germanized their names. A very good example is the old Slavic town of Chociebuż, which the Germans translated into Cottbus. The former port of the Polabian Slavs, Strzała, became a Scandinavian and German-sounding Stralsund. Lipsk has become Leipzig. Radogoszcz most important pagan cult place become german Radagast. Im so sad the polish people don; t understand and don; study their own history.

@@konjoc I know that in history names have changed several times. What I definitely found awful what was printed on the backside of tram tickets in 1990 ... "45 years of Polish Szczecin" as if that place had no other history than the Cold War period. Luckily by now various places have been renovated to their former looks like the bell tower of Katedra. When I was little, it had no tower at all and looked a bit sad from the outside ... though I have many nice memories from that place, e.g. watching Tadeusz Mazowiecki arrive in 1990. And I adore Cmentarz Centralny 🥰

@@konjoc "the Polish ownership" of former German places comes from the second world war, since many Polish cities are German in origin but you were smart enough to change their name completely. like Frankenstein, which today has an unpronounceable name. If any future third world war happens, I'm pretty sure those will be very important topics. Danzig, Stettin, Breslau, Frankenstein, Brieg, Königsberg.

@@dantedante839 Learn the history. Look what you have in archeology in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and don't say false ideas. Read what I wrote earlier. Szczecin, Wrocław and Gdańsk, even Królewiec do not have German roots. You are a historical ignorant without knowledge! Half of Germany in the area of the former East Germany is the cradle of the Polabian Slavs and Serbo-Lusatians. The same like Lubeka stupid guy. There will be no future wars for these cities, although as I can see you are drooling over them. Even if your society is so effeminate and ideologically stupid enough that, there is no chance of it.

Bywałem tam z rodzicami jako dziecko. były tam najpyszniejsze desery z owoców galaretki i prawdziwej bitej śmeitany ja pamietam Tutti Frutti. Moja mama pamięta czasy kiedy można było zamówić jabłko upieczone w galaretce wydrążone i wypełnione musem w środku. Dzisiejsze desery i torty to popłuczyny. Klimat i zapach ten sam choć desery gorsze niż te z Duetu.

No i tu koleżanko opowiadasz bzdury.

@konjoc
@konjoc 3 жыл бұрын
Na początku lat dziewięćdziesiątych kierownictwo i technolog zakładu Gryf w Szczecinie chcieli wyegzekwować prawo do nazwy i logotypu by inne podmioty produkcyjne nie używały go w ramach nieuczciwej konkurencji.

Szczecin and Stettin are the Polish and German equivalents of the same name, which is of Slavic origin. The recorded history of Szczecin began in the eighth century, as Vikings and West Slavs settled Pomerania. The Slavs erected a new stronghold on the site of the modern castle. Since the 9th century, the stronghold was fortified and expanded toward the Oder bank. Mieszko I of Poland took control of Pomerania during the Early Middle Ages and the region became part of Poland in the 10th century.However, already Mieszko II Lambert (1025 ~ 1034) effectively lost control over the area and had to accept German suzeranity over the area of the Oder lagoon. Subsequent Polish rulers, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Liutician federation all aimed to control the territory. In the 12th Szczecin was part of the federation of Wendish towns, a predecessor of the Hanseatic League, in 1283. The city prospered due to its participation in the Baltic Sea trade, primarily with herring, grain, and timber; craftsmanship also prospered, and more than forty guilds were established in the city.The far-reaching autonomy granted by the House of Griffins was in part reduced when the dukes reclaimed Szczecin as their main residence in the late 15th century.The anti-Slavic policies of German merchants and craftsmen intensified in this period, resulting in measures such as bans on people of Slavic descent joining craft guilds, a doubling of customs tax for Slavic merchants, and bans against public usage of their native language.The more prosperous Slavic citizens were forcibly stripped of their possessions, which were then handed over to Germans., when Szczecin had become one of Pomerania's main urban centres, it lost its independence to Piast Poland, the Duchy of Saxony, the Holy Roman Empire and Denmark, and became completely German speaking by the 14th century. At the same time, the House of Griffins established themselves as local rulers and the population was Christianized. After the Treaty of Stettin in 1630, the town came under the control of the Swedish Empire and became in 1648 the Capital of Swedish Pomerania until 1720, when it was acquired by the Kingdom of Prussia and then the German Empire. Following World War II Stettin became part of Poland in accordance with the Potsdam Agreement, resulting in the almost complete expulsion of the pre-war population.

Hordeman89, the Prussian didn't "occupied" the city - they aquired it as a result of the Great Northern War where the Swedes where defeated who were in possession of the city before. If someone applies this occupation logic, he could say Stettin is not Polish today - it is just occupied by Poland ... which would be the same nonsense.

@@lukassbeataddicts, what you are describing as anti-Slavic policies you would find almost everywhere on the territory in Easter Germany. When you look in old law books there they would differenciate the laws and duties whether someone was Saxon, Franconian, Slavic or Jew. This laws were often not in favour to Slavs and maybe you would call it dicrimination today: but it let to the effect, that many Slavs were eager to assimilate, changing the name and the language.

To tak jakby Turcja zażądała teraz polowy Węgier i pół Bałkanów, bo tam kiedyś było ich państwo albo Anglia polowy Francji, bo Bordeaux bylo kiedyś angielskie albo Anglia zażądała Ameryki, bo kiedyś była ich kolonią albo Hiszpania Holandii lub Austria Meksyku. Roszczenia tych państw są nawet czasowo bliższe i dotyczą okresów dłuższych aniżeli te kilkanaście czy kilkadziesiąt lat Chrobrego. This city was a German city with German population and architecture.The architechtur ,you see today is all German! The German population was expelled from all former territories east of the Oder / Neisse river. My heart hurts a lot when I see this city in the hands of Poles. More than 750 of German history in the east is now erased from history! Unfortunately, the war was unfair to the German population in the old eastern territories of Germany: Pomerania ,Silesia and Eastprussia.They were competly expelled. My family comes from Greifenhagen, near Stettin. The regions of Pomerania, Silesia and East Prussia of East Germany belong actualy to the children of Germans and Slavs, they formed the new Ethnicity!: They became new Germans.They have the right over this Lands. This land belong to them, and should not belong to Poland! It was a crime against humanity: the expulsion of more than 14 million Germans from their homeland. Unfortunately, only a few know today this! At least the Poles take care of the old archictur of the city! Greeting from from Brazil

Pomerania was originally Polish land not German. Pomeranians ,Silesians they went a Polish tribes. Same as Prussians they were a Baltic people . We lost our lands before .That was our fault.Pomerania was ruled by Gryfits from the Piast family. The German lands begin from Elbe River to the west. Everything else to the east is Slavic. You have occupied our Polish lands for centuries. But it's over now. Not everything anyway that you stole from our brothers was taken from you, because do not forget about one thing that you are still in possession of Slavic lands. The land of Sorbs and Polabians. Now where is Berlin, Hamburg etc. all these lands before belonged to the Polabians (Lechites), i.e. the ancestors of Poles. We Poles have already paid for our sins. Now is the time for Germany to pay for greed, murdering millions of people, violence and contempt for other nations.

@@piotrmichaowski3549 , Jeez, your comment is stereotypical Polish ... even this Catholic idea of sins. The pity is that those Slavic people in Pomerania, Silesia or Brandenburg had no idea that some dudes in the 20th century and even a Piotr in 21st century would consider them as "Poles" some 900 or 700 years later. They were just assimilated in the population who lived there. And this Piotr forgets that the German or Dutch speaking settlers were invited and promoted to found cities, to promote trade, crafts, mining, meloration and agricultue - just to create more revenue and taxes, even for those so-called "Polish" aristocratic families.
