I think that unpleasant patient is blessed to have you as his physician because you went back to talk to him. The hospital I go to in FL probably calls the security team. I’d like to know from a patient’s point of view regarding medical care in the US. What do you think when - 1. Physician or nurse sometimes show frustration when international patients ask questions. They tend to hurry the case and leave the room. Do you think they treat all nationalities alike with no discrimination? 2. Are those after-visit surveys being seen by the physicians? I dare not complain or give them low points because I’m concerned that they will not treat me well in the next visit. Thank you Dr. Tany.

1) It is difficult as they have to take an extra time due to language barrier. This is especially true if the conversation goes on for too long. For me, I usually discuss the pertinent things first then I will tell them that I will come back and discuss further. If this is an outpatient, I will tell them upfront that I have a time limitation and cannot exceed that since it will bleed into other patient's time slot. By doing this, it prompts them to think of the most important things to discuss with me. 2) Those feedbacks are anonymous. However, obviously, if certain patients do standout, physicians will eventually know who wrote it.
