Nice documentary. I used to live in the property 171 Zhongxing St(171 中兴街)the shop your grandpa had when I was a kid. You guys were so close to the shop but you went to a different direction( you were at 5 Zhongxing St). And I know that Your great grandfather and my great grandfather are brothers. My great grandfather moved to Philippine and your great grandfather moved to Canada. I went back from NY to visit良村 at 6-25-2023 to find my grandparents house. It was like 2 weeks after you guys. Lol. I could’ve been your tourist guide if I knew this earlier.

Thank you for sharing your journey. It's a great contrast from my trip with my dad back in 1986. It's amazing to see the contrast between modern China against the village. Kudos to your dad for being so fluent in Chinese. I can barely make myself understood. smile, I don't think I'd be as successfull. His interactions with the villagers bought back memories of my dad catching up with the few people left that he knew when we went back.

I am very happy for you, your family and your dad. We did it more than ten years ago with our two sons. I was born in Taishan and left home around 4 years old. Our CBC sons were so excited to walk up those stairs in the house my mom was born. Thank You very much for sharing.

This brings back fond memories for my husband and myself. We've been back 3 times, 2000, 2004 and 2018 together. Our Chinese 4 yup isn't as good as your father, but my husband communicates satisfactorily with our Taishan relatives. Fortunately, we were able to find all four of our parents' villages and homes. If you ever go back try October-March. The weather is way more pleasant. We are going to try the train too, next time. Thank you for sharing your experience.
