Although I'm not a Taiwanese and never lived in Taiwan, but I think the differences when come to sense of humour is you cant make a joke on some serious conversation/discussion in work or in a meeting, they might take it for real.

Cool video Allan. I observed that Taiwan obviously don’t have the pub culture we have in Ireland and The Uk but do tend to drink quiet a lot having meals with friends and family. Those big bottles of Taiwan Beer always go down well with an array of different food. 😁😁😁

Metro fare is very different between UK and Taiwan, London metro fare star from 2.4 one way by Oyster card, 4.9 by cash.Taipei is star from £0.38(by cash is £0.48) . And I think the high fare limited the freedom of people moving. Surely I know UK GDP is high, too. 。I like your this kind of topic episodes, thanks for sharing.

I've been living in Taiwan for 2 years now and still struggling with Taiwanese people not understanding my humour #thestruggleisreal Btw I think you should do an entire video of just you walking around Taichung with a scouse accent.
This opening shows the culture difference with the beer advertisement from west. You do video with aĺl your heart. No wonder that your subscribers grow stronger. I think if your joke about changing your accent is with friend, it could be totally acceptable. But to boss or supervisor, i believe nobody dare to do that in Taiwan when just got the job. lol. I got used to American style humour when I was young, felt English joke is very dry when I first knew it. But when I am getting older, I can appreciate it now. Just like I love BBC life style channel more than TLC now. Congratulations for reaching this great mile stone, keep on doing what you love to do. Cheers~

I like your english accent and i'm from Taiwan can understand you was talking about a don't think you should change.
I am studying in the UK and what I found and experienced the cultural difference between Taiwan and the UK is the way British speak! People in the UK are just fantastic because even they don't agree with my opinion or idea, they just say it in a very respectful way to say NO! They are really willing to accept the different opinion and respect individual! And the British would hold the door for you !! This is the culture that I really appreciate!! However, as I am in university, some undergraduate students just do not respect other students ( it's tricky, although I said the British are very gentle...). But I firmly believe that education could make it better!! By the way, the education system in the UK is relatively better than Taiwan!
Absolutely true differences!! I am a Taiwanese currently staying in England as a student. When I told my friends that I didn't drink alcohol since my parents thought that drinking was not good for girls, my friends seemed surprised and felt sad for me. I also had an experience being winked by my supervisor in a meeting and I didn't know the meaning until I watched your video today!!

I have not been quite able to master the western sarcastic styles of humor, even after I have lived in the US for 30+ years. I know it’s all based upon the closeness of friendship. I guess the Taiwanese culture doesn’t condone “諷刺” that well. The line between sarcasm and defamation “毀謗” in the two cultures tend to be different. The “degree” of sarcasm (how far you go with being sarcastic before being viewed as defamation) is difficult to handle in Taiwanese culture. I guess the closer the friendship the more tolerance in joking that you can go. Congratulations to reach 100K! Well, I thought there was this challenge of either stinky tofu thing or climbing the Mount Jade thing coming up....hahaha.... Keep up the good work!

British people usually quite polite in general. However I still experienced one or two idiot annoyed me. Like 2 days ago a white British woman in her middle age cutting my queue intentionally and pretending she doesn't know. She ignored me after I told her I am in the queue. I thought at least she will say sorry and move to behind me but she didn't. Can you believe a British white woman in her decent clothes will bullying a foreigner in the supermarket?

Heard of the two fingers story before, it surprised me that could mean so different in the UK. I went to visit my friends in London 6 years ago, and we went to few bars near Leicester Square/ Soho Square. I saw some guys peeing at the corner of the streets, quite interesting to me. But compare this with NYC, well, London is cleaner. Hahaha... And it's very common that you will be called LOVE or Dear in the UK, I think it's like the UK version of 歡迎光臨 you hear at 7-11 in Taiwan. Although I know that's just a greeting, but still make me feel so Great! Cover mouth and laugh? Reminds me the two Japanese girls in " Come Fly With Me" 🤣

For the sarcasm part, we do have sarcasm as a form joke in our daily life but we use it in a way that is quite hard for foreigners to understand since it pretty much requires full mastery of the language itself. When I went to high school in New Zealand, I struggled with the same problem of not getting sarcasm and ended up hating their sense of humor, but after a few years I was able to grasp the subtle licks and learnt how to sort of "read between the lines" in English if that makes sense.

The drinking cultures are quite different after hearing you say. No wonder Taiwanese get the impression that westerners have parties often at home, or get drunk and loud outside often. Hope they respect Taiwan’s different culture and keep quiet late at night, which will be appropriated a lot.

Kids in Taiwan tend to learn American English much more than British English in ratio. That’s why Allen is required to “change” his accent. But that’s not a good idea. Kids of higher levels should be acquainted with various “accents” because that’s how the real world is! But the spellings and the expressions can stay in one language because it’s too difficult for the kids to learn both and not get confused.
