After doing my skimmer like this i could not understand why people go to all the problems with a built in wall one keep it simple and cheap and it works a treat you can even take the outlet up to 4 inch if you want right to your drum or what ever filter you have. And mate the Drum there to me is the best by far as the take out screens nail the getting inside it problems to have a look/clean the dirt shoot have a good weekend Phil

Hello Martyn👍😊. At the planning stage I saw and heard some many people having issues with built in wall skimmers that when I saw your I thought it was a no brainier👍😊. Couldn’t gat the pull right through the drum using just on pump but as soon as I put the 2nd one in it stared working a treat👍😊. So glad I bought the Oase drum with those removable screens, excellent for maintenance and so easy to replace👍😊. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, always appreciated 👍🈲🐟😊

Nice update Phil. Well done on your 2k subs. I've seen a few videos from people with drums that have had the issue of going into a continuous cleaning cycle when the pond level has dropped too low. I wonder if you could combat that with a float switch in the pond that would shut the drum down if the water level goes too low. I think it would be a safeguard against the drum emptying the pond. These are all idea's I'm storing away for when I build my new pond lol.
@TelfordKoiPond2 жыл бұрын
Hello Jim🖐. Thank you for watching and commenting, it is appreciated 👍😊. Excellent point about the continuous cleaning by the drum. Most problems seen appear to be caused by people not setting up their float switches correctly in the first place or doing big water changes without checking levels before turning their drums back on but I know a couple of people who have fitted separate float switches as you have suggested. You can buy a WiFi unit/controller for the Oase range of products which I believe alerts you if the drum cleans continuously and then turns it off after a set number of continuous cleans but I haven’t looked into that properly yet. 👍🈲🐟😊

Hi Phil, is this flush a rare event as the volume change is huge, one of the things that puts me off these systems. Congrats on 2k.
@TelfordKoiPond2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, much appreciated 👍😊. Oase say that (obviously depending on your bottom drain configuration) as long as you are pulling circa 12,000 litres per hour through a 4” pipe then there shouldn’t ever be a need to do a bottom drain flush🤔. I did one straight after commissioning my pond and this is my proper “start of Season” purge but as you will have seen in the video, virtually nothing came out so I am only planning on doing one one every spring👍😊. Thank you for watching and commenting 👍🈲🐟😊

@@TelfordKoiPond Makes sense, think its worthwhile having a bottom drain valved tee for rapid pulls of the pipe. Definitely something I'll have if I ever do an upgrade!

Hi Phil, may I ask why you put the hose straight from the house when you have a big blue ?
@TelfordKoiPond2 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin🖐. Simply because I only run my big blue at a max of 200ml per minute so if I just used that to fill up the pond it would take nearly 24hrs , that’s about 12 hrs to replace the 1200 litres plus the 1.5 litres every 30 minutes that the drum uses. The trickle in through the big blue is still running all the time but filling with a hose and using tap safe is simply much quicker👍. FYI. I do test for chlorine afterwards and reading is always 0 so the tap safe must be working. Thank you for watching and commenting, it is appreciated 👍🈲🐟😊

Sorry Phill sent before finish texting by inch and half pipe work is there enough pull on the skimmer reason I’m asking is I have the smaller oase drum filter the compact and I was told not to connect the skimmer to it as the will be not enough pull and will affect the bottom drain as well just would like to here you thoughts and advice weather I should connect my skimmer to my drum thanks phill
@TelfordKoiPond2 жыл бұрын
Hello Terry👍. FYI I was told exactly the same by a number of so called experts so I had a long and meaningful discussion with Oase and they explained the correct set up to make it work. Basically make sure you have a sufficient pump/pumps to pull the water through e.g. if you want to pull 12000lph through your bottom drain and 5000lph then you need a 20000lph pump (to allow for some head loss) . The key is then to be able to control the flow through the bottom drain and the skimmer so put a ball valve on each pipe just before they go into the drum. I used a flow meter to get a rough idea of the pull through both but when I reduced my skimmer to 1.5” I found that it was the 5000lph I was looking for👍😊. I don’t believe you need to pull 10000lph or more through your skimmer as mine pulls everything off the surface of my pond👍. Hope that helps🤞👍
