Hi Kev, I get the build up of waste in that channel on drum, I put a 4" rubber straight connector on inside and a small piece of pipe in it after watching Lee Hadfield do it on his, it doesn't stop it completely but it is a huge improvement, stay safe. Rob.

If you are gravity fed, I assume your filters are the same height as your pond. So to purge the drain into your filter, the water has to rise 12 inches or so ? I’m asking because I’m in process of installing a drain and purge line, the shop I asked says the purge line has to be same height as the bottom drain to be effective.

I'm not that clued up on purging, hence why I purge mine BD into the filter unit. I know it is a must to have a method of flushing the drains but not the best way of doing it

Interesting perspective of seeing the drain purge from inside the filter under water. A lot of bits of debris even after 3 purge cycles. Imagine the mess that would create in the pond without a bottom drain.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I think you may be mixed up. The Japanese refer to Koi in their first year as being Tosai. Koi in their second year (1 year old) are referred to as Nisai. Or in other regions less than 1 year old are called Tosai and 2 summers old Koi are Nisai. They were born June 1 2021 so they are in their 2nd year or 2nd summer.

@@AKoiEnthusiast I'm sorry but I have to disagree the Japanese call them for there first year Fry, then on there first summer they turn 1 Tosai a 1 year old fish then on there second summer they turn 2 a Nisai. A one day old fry is not called a tosai it's called a fry it turns tosai at 1 year old not the day its born 🤣🤣🤣
