In this video, we discuss our experience with the T-Mobile 5G gateway and gaming online. Our perspective is unique as we live in rural US and our T-Mobile 5G signal is not that great.

I use this for online gaming in my semi truck. It only drops when I'm in extremely remote areas but for 50 it's great.

I just got it for my semi too, didn't try it out yet what people don't understand it's not always about the speed test, for example if I connect my ps5 to my hot spot on my phone my ps5 says 55mb sec, when I connect it to the company hotspot when I'm the parking lot it says 5mb sec, but it lags on my mobile hot spot and throttles. While it doesn't on the 5mb company wifi, so do you throttle? Lag? While playing or it's good?

@ayoubbaydoun252 tbh I haven't had an issue with lagging. Just like all mobile devices u gotta be in a decent area that isn't too rural. I'm using one at home and one on the road.

I have used quite a few of these in my business to solve customer problems. I'm getting up to 400 down but varies and is usually well over 150..... but I make sure radio in optimal location. Find the tower look for path of least RF resistance. And I have taken the unit apart and installed connections for external antennas. Not for the weak hearted...... but works great. Radios do need to be rebooted once in a while so look out for remote locations...get automatic reboot system. The higher the signal the better. If logged into the device with a laptop there are many different digital readout meters......and maybe with the app......vey helpful in correct placement.

They have a little fan now that sits under the bottom blowing air up thru the case to keep it much cooler.. Since I added one $12 USB power to my T-Mobile unit, I haven't had to reboot it yet.. I'm adding an external antenna next week hoping to see a much faster Uplink to improve the stability also..

I had T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, was only getting mostly 12-20Mbps. Then tried US Cellular and was getting 4G speeds only 99% of the time. Then the other day I found out VZW 5G Home Internet launched in my area. Got the Plus version and getting 295Mbps to a little over 300Mbps, some times a bit slower but not by much.

My experience with this T mobile internet is that it is amazing for streaming movies and shows but… it is dog water for gaming. Especially when I’m trying to play Mortal Kombat 1 online. There is so much lag it’s not even funny. It runs decent when I play Fortnite and Overwatch but any competitive games, yeah good luck playing.

I have had this tmobile 5g router since beginning of September and whenever I try to play games during the day it is unbearably laggy, some titles are better and some are worse in terms of lag. 11pm-12am is when the connection is stable enough to play but there is still jitters. I live in the metro area of Boston though so idk why its this way. I am going to buy a ethernet cable and see if that clears up the issues. During the night, 40-60 ping is my average on CSGO but during the day its over 100. Only playable games during the day are fortnite and rust.

I see my bullets go into them and it just doesnt even give me a markers I feel like im shooting into the void and its not the game because before I had T mobile and had fios it was fine but then someone moved out and took it with them. crazy we pay all this money a month and it just sucks maybe i got throttled bc I downloaded a bunch of games on steam when I got my new PC in NOV?

I was getting 25 to 33 ping which is ok for fps but the frequent server disconnects when I'm in the same room as the gateway on the 2nd floor by the window is unacceptable. 5g overall sucks

I do get decent download and upload speeds with it but the latency packet loss and constant disconnections with the ever-changing IP address makes this unplayable for competitive gamers specially with first person shooters. If you're not a competitive player and you can get a decent signal it's okay but definitely not for serious gamers

This is a fair priced internet, but due to the use of CNAT, its not for gaming, if all you do is play the game, then sure, should be fine, but you wont be hosting anything without paying for 3rd party programs to get around cnat.

If you use a wire connection it does seem to be stable but as soon as you disconnect again the IP address changes because you cannot make it static and then you will have severe packet loss and latency issues the only solution is that anytime you ever want to use a wire connection you would have to reset your Xbox and reset the router and then you can play again for a few hours before the dynamic IP changed and you would be left with extreme packet loss and disconnection issues very annoying I just stay unwired

Deceiving! To anyone whos thinking of trying out the Tmo 5G home internet, MAKE SURE to have them check their 'signal' specifically to where you at. It may be available but not that strong / reliable yet. Happened to me. And charged for the $$ w/ no 5G working at all. Hardly can even surf the net! Like mobile receptions, some areas good ( full bar) some areas sux! Sales would promised good / fast connection and everything just to close the deal! Definitely not in my area. Learned my lesson to be more careful with Tmo!

I agree. Definitely make sure you have good coverage in your area. We have 5G according to the T-Mobile coverage map: www.t-mobile.com/coverage/coverage-map So make sure that you have that in your area.

You need max signal. Put in a window facing cell tower. Not all Tmobile towers offer Home 5G. Just cause your Tmobile phone get a good 5G doesn't always translate to good 5G Home signals. Move box at least four or five times and tst for max signal. Log into the box and look at noise figures and signal at each different location.

It actually works. I thought it wouldn't because mobile carriers tend to double NAT and that affects outside connectivity, but Microsoft manages to get your console connected (probably a proxy is involved). I wouldn't play any FPS, but a quick game of the new TMNT ran fine. We did get a warning from the console that the upload bandwidth was too low. Either way, it worked.

T-mobile home internet is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Have to reboot gateway multiple times per day sometimes. Up to 1 second latencies (that's right, 1 second!!!). Typical speed when it does work 10-20. Customer service horrible. latest experience when called the 1st CSR did not even have explanation when they would return to service. Super said maybe Thursday (call was on Monday). Don't want to compensate for anything in a meaningful manner. Don't want to give hotspot backups through their cell service. They pretty much say you cell customers are priority and you are not and if you don't like it, here is the door. They try to "educate" about their service when start comparing to wired service.... One Saturday called for tech support, wait was up to an hour. And again, when you do get a rep, all they do, they at most tell you to reboot. And then say , "see it works now". And when you tell them to escalate to engineering, they don't get back to you with result. This is not a one time experience. Problems going on for months. The only reason with them - have $25 fixed price and still not worth it at this price.

It's because PS5 uses dynamic IP switch change constantly and since you cannot set a static IP on this particular router it makes it fall off anytime it changes the IP until it relearn the IP and then you'll get a good signal for a few minutes and then the IP changes again and it goes through the whole process again
