This is what I was looking for. However the first gateway was actually rectangular and white with an optional backup battery in addition to a small battery for placement during setup.

Thank you! this wa exactly the content I was looking for. I have the Arcadyan, and it works acceptably well, but I recently tried streaming video games via Parsec, and got dropped audio and video frames. It looks like "buffer bloat" from the 5G Tmo connection (ping times shoot way up when there is traffic on the line). Which of the others two do best, or have SQM / QoS controls that may help. Thanks.

I came from Verizon DSL @1.0mbps DL speed on a good day on a land line that had really bad line noise every other month or so. I brought the TMHI Sagemcom gateway home in January (2023) and hooked it up on a shelf next to a south facing upstairs bedroom window. I was in disbelief with over 200mbps DL speeds. After 4 days, my speeds tanked and TM support had me do a power cycle, then a factory reset and all was well. A month or two in, Devices showed a "Gateway Error Code 500" that would not resolve and is still the case. After consulting with TM Support, at first they suggested sending me an Arcadyan, but then we resolved that I'd continue with the Sagemcom as long as the gateway continued to otherwise work properly. I was typically connecting on 5G/n41, 'Good' signal, with 200-400mbps DL speeds. Lately as the trees are leafing out, more and more I'm connecting on 5G/n71, sometimes 'Weak' signal, with slower (150mbps DL), but still acceptable speeds, but may worsen when trees fully leaf out?). I can't get cable unless I spend $23,000 for 1000 feet of aerial cable, and I was told (by a Verizon Tech) that I'd likely never see fiber at my address. Satellite systems are expensive, have low data caps, and throttle to unusable speeds. With TMHI I finally have high speed internet with unlimited data, price locked at $50/mth ($10 less than I paid for DSL). 𝐒𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐫, 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓-𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐜𝐨𝐦 𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐲!

You could add an external antenna to your gateway and it would probably resolve a lot of your issues regardless of whether or not your trees have leaves. Check out the Nater tater KZbin channel. youtube.com/@NaterTater He has several videos adding an antenna you can get on Amazon to your gateway.

@@helphq So far anyway, there's really no need. I have well over 150mbps DL speeds which is more than enough for our needs. Oh, 200-400 is perhaps more impressive, but the key is to have enough speed to do what you want or need to do. I shake my head when I hear of folks dropping $ on antennas, routers, and/or mesh systems that they really don't need. Maybe I'm old school, but if it ain't broke, why fix it. Maybe I'll feel differently in a month or so when the trees have fully leafed out...time will tell. I've heard some say that the leaves are a killer and others in deep woods say trees make little difference. Just gotta wait 'n see. Gonna have to get really bad to come close to my former 1.0mbps DSL experience!!!

There is one thing I thought about doing is putting my gateway in front of an old dish network satellite dish it may or may not help but with four bars it's probably a waste of time. Also it may block the Wi-Fi signal who knows. 73

Better than spectrum for speed and reliability. The ping on mine goes from 24 on a good day to over 100 on busy weekend. The cell service on my S23 Ultra is actually faster on ultraband, I'm hoping they make a gateway to recieve that signal.

I live in suburban New Jersey, half an hour from New York City. I get no N41 nor N66 anywhere near me, the modem connects under N71 to a blistering 25 Mbps. Originally when I got the modem it was connecting at 5 mbps or under so it's gradually getting better. Hoping they expand faster service around here. Can't play games online but at least I can still stream movies and TV for now.

Question? Can I improve my Wi-Fi signal throughout my house it's quite large over 3,500 square feet by adding Orbi™ 960 Series Quad-Band WiFi 6E Mesh System, 10.8Gbps, 10 Gig Port to my T- mobile Nokia 5G21 They say I'm surrounded by 3 towers very nearby less than a few blocks. Also have 9 Wyze V3 Wi-Fi cameras, that come up pretty quick but I love to remove some of that buffering even more, + 3 streaming TVs . Would I benefit by upgrading to Sagemcom FAST 5688W. If so, how do I connect it ?
@helphq
@helphq Жыл бұрын
It depends on the bands you have in your area as to whether or not you’d benefit from upgrading. If you go to the website: www.cellmapper.net You will be able to select your provider and 5G from the drop down on the website. From there it will show you the bands for each tower in your area. If you don’t have the bands that the new gateway can receive the only advantage to upgrading is future proofing should your tower get upgraded. Yes you can expand your Wi-Fi signal/coverage by adding a mesh system to the gateway. I would turn off off the Wi-Fi on the gateway using one of my other videos and then place your mesh system in bridge mode. Lastly I have had very very VERY bad luck with Orbi mesh systems. They literally just don’t work well for the money they cost. I’d look at something else like eero or Tp Link.

Some people have had issues with the Sagemcom, but in my case the Sagemcom has been very close to the Nokia in terms of reliability and it’s performance has been better with speeds. T-Mobile just upgraded the tower by our house and the Sagemcom over all is faster since it has the newer bands. I do still love the Nokia though. Hello. I saw you need to scan a QR-code in order to complete the installation of the router. What happens if later someone at my house scans the code again? Will that disconnect the modem and we need to activate it again? Or it will already set up and it will just give access to the app and the modem's settings? Thanks!
@helphq
@helphq Жыл бұрын
Scanning the QR code is used for initial setup of the gateway. If someone scans the QR code and completes the setup process it will reset the gateway to whatever specifications they input on their setup. If you need to give someone access to the app all you need to do is make sure they are connected to your gateways Wi-Fi and login to the app with your user name and password (if you changed it at setup) otherwise it’s on the back of the gateway (you’ll use the admin information not the Wi-Fi information).

The Nokia model DEFINITELY has reboot issues... I could just be luck of the draw of the unit... But mine reboots and many others have posted problems with frequent reboots... I have found that creating a separate 5g and 2.4g network and putting older devices ( more than 3 years) on the 2.4g network. I seen another youtuber say that older devices' antennas don't seem to play nice. I've found that forcing them to the 2.4 seems to help a lot. When I first received the unit and setup it up, it rebooted 4-5 times in 1 hour, on its own. The rebooting issue is very well documented by other users of the Nokia gateway.

That being said if you search KZbin there are several people who seem to use this service while camping or traveling in an RV. So my response would be it should work fine, BUT that doesn’t mean that T-Mobile won’t at some point change their terms of service and crack down on people doing that. For now though it would appear that you could do that if you have 5g service in both places.

Well I assume what you are referring too as a “strong router” is just going to be the equivalent of using the T-Mobile provided gateway. A single router can only push the signal so far. A mesh system is a router that has devices that extend the signal throughout your house. So you’d hook the main one up to your T-Mobile gateway and then put the other devices on different floors of your house. They sync together creating a “mesh network” but all it’s doing is giving you a strong WiFi signal throughout your house.

Do you have a router as well with it? How secure is the gateway without any type of router or firewall?
@helphq
@helphq Ай бұрын
I use an eero mesh system. The T-Mobile provided gateway itself is both a modem and a router in one. Tmobiles initial 4g gateways had firewall settings you could configure but when they released their 5g gateways they removed these options for two reasons 1) being that they were looking to make this as simplistic as possible so that anyone could set it up and 2) because you’re accessing the internet via a cellular network the firewall resides on the network and T-Mobile is the only one that can configure it. So in theory your everyday person doesn’t need to be able to mess with settings like that because they are already taking care of it in an effort to protect the network as a whole. I haven’t had any issues using the service and I’ve never been hacked or gotten malware.. not that I’m all that important for that to happen anyway 😉. Hope that helps!

There are several methods to turn off the Wi-Fi on the Arcadyan. I have a few videos on it but the easiest method is to use the HINT control app on windows or android. When you hook up a third party gateway you incur a double NAT unless you put the third party router in bridge mode. If you do that though you lose the capabilities of the router you hooked up to your T-Mobile gateway. Your internet will still work. It might be slightly delayed with a double NAT but it most effects gaming and if your gaming is working fine then I wouldn’t worry about it.

Similarly to how it would work on a cell phone. The service will transfer and set itself up when you boot the new gateway with the SIM card in it.

You have to buy the gateway second hand - Facebook marketplace, eBay, Mercari..etc or find a T-Mobile store that has that model in stock and see if they will let you swap the gateways out. If you explain that you’ve been having issues and support sent you into the store you’ll likely get farther than just asking to trade the gateway out.

How do I connect a meah router to my tower??
@helphq
@helphq 3 ай бұрын
You connect the third party router to your T-Mobile provided gateway via an Ethernet cord. You’ll need to use the HINT control app to turn off the WiFi on your T-Mobile provided gateway as well. Then you’ll place the mesh system in bridge mode. After that you should be all set. Only one of the routers will connect to the T-Mobile gateway via Ethernet. The others will connect to each other via WiFi.

Weird. I’ve never had a problem with mine. Do you think it was overheating? You can buy a fan base the gateway sits on. Not that you should have to do that but it’s better than the constant resetting.

@@helphq what is the name of their business models and who did you talk to to get it? And is it an actual gateway or a modem. Because I saw online some people got an FX2000 modem which they had to connect external MIMO antennas too which is what I would love to get. I talked to TMobile support the other day about switching to a business account when their next line of gateways comes out because their next business gateway is supposed to have external antenna ports without having to tear it apart.

I average mid to high 400s Mbps with people using the internet. With no one home I get closer to 700Mbps. I considered trying centurylink fiber for 65 a month but I have the 30 dollar a month price lock on T-Mobile and that is just hard to beat. We were paying over a hundred a month to xfinity before switching to T-Mobile. It doesn’t work for everyone though. I hope comcast works out for you.

No. $200/month for cable is insane IMHO, even 1.5gbps which is pretty nice, I'd say you are paying at least $50 more per month. To some, $50 a month isn't too much and rather just get whatever is easiest and glad to take your money, but then they will get greedy after 12-months and tell you the promotion rate is over and now you must pay them even more.......
