A Freind brought over their T-Mobile 5g box 20 miles away from a 5g tower. It had 70 down and 10 up. I currently pay $55 for 5mbps down and 2 mbps up. Im going with the T-MOBILE box. Because even LTE is faster than what I’m getting. With a point to point WiFi. Great video!

what isp did you have? i have atnt fiber and my pc is hard wired into the router and I get 650 download and 650 upload with 7 ping. I pay 65$ a month for this plan and its supposed to only be 500 down/up. Might not be in ur location but if it is it would be worth it over the 5g internet you are planning on buying

Thabks for sharing your results. Just returned mine. Did speed tests every few hours for a week during trial time. Day 1 had a bunch of drops. By 3rd day they stopped. Hit 485-250MB in early mornings, 120MB by noon, 70-50MB around 2-3pm, 50-30MB at 5PM, then 30-10MB all night till 2AM. Then it starts over again. Weekends max was 120MB and 30-10MB all day. I did see less than 1MB one time. Since I have comcast 400 (not cheap) lowest I get is 200MB and max is around 500MB. Tried to save $, but can't deal with the sporadic speeds. Still think it's a great option if you are in a remote area and can get a signal. Results will vary for everyone depending on signal strength and how many people are connecting.

I got Tmobile Home Internet in December of 2022, advertised as 1 Gig service, here in South West corner of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The first three months I averaged 800 Mbps download speeds. After that Tmobile started automatically Throttling my speed down to 500-600 Mbps. And now after fourteen months they have me Throttled all the way down to 200-300 Mbps.

"Thousand down?" I had this T-mobile for a few month. I live in Cen-PHX. I could literally see the advanced tower from my upstairs bedroom window. I never got more than 300mps download, although the upload was 30-40mbs. During rush hour/busy times, it fell to 80-100mbs. Then modems problems where they had to replace it. New modem, no better service. WFH, finally had to cancel the TM $50/month for lack of service. Went back to COX/coax. $50/month/no contract, and regularly hit 600mps with NO speed reduction during high times. Saw the new TM modem (flat square). Display looks exactly like previous modem. Only change was antenna connections for 4X8. This is only good for distant reception. Does nothing for living next to the tower when system cellular service bogs down. Interesting..in San Francisco, self driving cars having problems due to same slow down/network congestion. They are coming to a stop, after loosing signal, causing traffic jams, and apparently not seeing emergency vehicles and other traffic. Am I the only who was shocked to learn these cars where operating off the 5g cell system?????? What could POSSIBLY go wrong??

Hopefully you do! They have cheap prices for the amount of download and upload speed you actually get. I pay 65$ for 500 down/up and my pc that is hard wired gets 650 down and up and 7 ping everytime i test it. Gets the full 650 when I download games through steam too. Very little jitter and delay with a lot of devices connected. Its really the best if you have it in your area.

Just recently tried T-Mobile, first 3 wks were great, then started experiencing wide swings of poor performance.. the fact that it was good, and then bad leads me to believe something was going on with T-Mobile.. I switched to Verizon and while speeds are close, Verizon latency is much, much lower.. so far, much better the T-Mobile.. I’ve heard others say the same thing, that after a month or so, service drops out… the T-Mobile rep was upfront about cell service gets first priority on bandwidth

Bought it brand new. Had it for two years. Just rolled the odometer to 20k miles and we can’t wait to trade it when we get our work bonus in a couple of months. Like 9 months ago we noticed oil residue around the valve covers and they said they wouldn’t do anything until it started leaking. Horrible gas mileage for a four cylinder, radio straight up doesn’t work sometimes. No backup camera, sounds, or anything. Twice we’ve gotten an exclamation point that said take it to the dealer. But you get there and it’s working so they won’t fix it. Fill the washer fluid…. It’s empty the next day. We’ve been there four times over that issue alone. They replaced the reservoir and it still won’t hold fluid for a whole day. That’s just what I can think of right now. Definitely the worst new car I’ve ever bought. And I’ve bought a 14 Mitsubishi mirage, 21 jeep renegade, and 23 Kia forte. (All three brand new)

Unfortunately dealing with non-terrestrial ISP's is like pigs in a poke. My use case is that when I have access to 5G-UC I get about 500/100 off my iPhone 13 Pro Max on 2 bars of signal regardless of which carrier and a little bit less when playing second fiddle on VMO's on just regular 5G depending on utilization. I live on the outer edges of fiber, what is cable, and dare I even mention AT&T U-verse? I am within range of receiving 70+ channels on digital over the air TV broadcast, so really can't complain though. I just went with Starlink when my area opened up in April of this year and having "normal" internet service is a blessing just not the $120 per month price tag plus equipment costs. However, my neighbor who is able to get fiber still have to deal with outages that lasts up to 5 or more days at least 2 times a year because some yahoo with their car taking out one of the cross connect boxes on the roadside.

My parents are just 3 blocks from a Tmobile tower and I set this up for their home internet. Speeds are super inconsistent but even the worst speeds there are plenty for their needs. 250-700 mbps down and 30-120 mbps up depending on time of day but speeds are usually somewhere in the middle. They've had it for over a year and it works well for their situation. KZbin TV, a couple pc's and a couple smartphones. $50/month with autopay. Performance will vary greatly depending distance to tower and congestion in your area.

I'm 5 miles from the Tmo tower, and no external antenna, and last year, I used to get over 300 download in the early morning with Tmo Home Internet, and 40 upload. My record times were 400 download and 60 upload. Even then though, daytime speeds were slower, but I regularly got over 200, but sometimes it would drop to like 80. This year, with more people on the network, I get only just over 200 in the early morning, and during the day, speeds anywhere from 50 to 150 download. Upload is 18 to 30. It's incredible at this distance though, very rare, but my sight lines are clear. Anyway, I didn't even discover in the first few days, but there is one window in my house, facing the tower, that gets the good speeds. Every place else it is much slower, including another window on the same side of the house, or even on the roof. It has something to do with the exterior L-shape of the house outside this window, kind of catches the signal better or reflects it better. I've read of people a mile from the Tmo tower, who can't get anything above 20 download, so you never know, but it certainly helps to try the gateway in all sorts of positions, rotations, high and low. I've even tried mine on the roof, thinking that would be the best signal but it wasn't at all. It is just this one window, and rotated a certain way, with a foil disc I made behind it, to enhance the upload speed. The disc doesn't affect download at all. I haven't tried an external antenna, since my gateway is Nokia and I don't want to take it apart. But reading about people's experience with them, again, you never know. Sometimes the external antenna helps dramatically, and other times it hardly helps at all. Since my DSL was a 7 download, it is just great having a speed this fast, at this price. And again, this varies from person to person, but mine has been very reliable, now over two years, and disconnections are rare, sometimes not for months, and getting stuck on a slow 4G signal only is rare, too. A pretty reliable way for people to tell is someone with a Tmo phone, and how that performs at your location.

They have a new unit with support for external antennas. Potentially can get a better signal that way but they aren't cheap. My guess is that there is some level of throttling and/or deprioritization going on with their 5G home internet. Your phone also likely has a better modem. Verizon's 5G Home Internet is rated limited to 300/20 or something like that so T-Mobile is not that bad.
@adriftatlas
@adriftatlas 7 ай бұрын
5G home internet has lower priority than smartphone traffic. One's location in reference to the tower does not affect priority. He implied he was getting better speeds from his iPhone 14 Pro, showing a screenshot of 666/55. Even when he was right next to the tower he was not able to achieve that download speed from the unit. The iPhone 14 Pro has a Qualcomm X65 modem that likely supports more advanced carrier aggregation and is likely more sensitive than the home internet unit.

i had the tmobile home internet and similar experiance. My download varied from 100 to 400 but upload was caped at 10-15 in my area. I work remote vpn to work office with large file and the internet was way to slow. High pings. lso, Tmobile will throttle you internet connection during the day when compared to night speeds. Overall, tmobile cannot compete with fiber coming to home. Another issue is that tmobile internet modem is locked down with limited support for port fwd or other features.

Had the Verizon equivilant to this and it was a joke. Paid for the 300 to 1000 speed and never got to 300 ever. 150 was the best most of the time and 100 was average for DL, UP was about 20. When we called they said we would be lucky to get 300 at all in our area. (Augusta GA) Not to mention the modem kept losing connection and had to be restarted almost every day. (sometimes more than once a day) Then the modem broke and it took three days to get a new modem in the mail, no choice to swap out at a Verizon store. But the worst thing was the lag with gaming and buffering a lot. Remember, the Home Internet is low prioroty in the system when it gets loaded up.
