So helpful! We have our shop out in the rural county and had the same issue with Starlink, waited forever with no results. I heard about cellular internet, but every time I inquired about it, walked away confused. We even tried hughesnet satellite internet which is a joke. Thank you for breaking this down so people can understand it before throwing money at it blindly. Thanks!

After watching all of your videos. I went with the panel antenna and the net buddy with their T-Mobile SIM card. Went from zero cell signal to 28mbps down and 4mbps up. Just pointed the panel in the general direction of the tower. Haven’t had a chance to get up there and fine tune it yet. I’ll update when I get a chance to get back on the roof. Streams HD fine. I’m able to communicate from my cabin. Thanks for all the advice!

A great option for us country folks Andrew. Starlink is working but the price went up and I'm not happy about it. They gave those with other options in the city a discount and stuck it to us living rural. I'm really looking at a back up/other option and this video may have convinced me. I appreciate the information and honest follow up review.

Oh and yes cell mapper is great. But also if you can get a pay as you go sim from all the providers do that to test first, and then like you said research how you can get the cheapest sims on your chosen provider. I can now get a pay monthly contract, so the contract term is one month, esim from a MVNO on the provider that gives me 5G in my area, it’s not good for calls but as a backup for if my internet goes down it’s a great option.

I don’t use a home cellular router but I test all the different providers in my phone for a hobby lol. And I am on a forum where people do use these routers. I am in the UK, but you can buy a 5 G router if eBay that’s unlocked, set up an external arial, and then pay peanuts for an unlimited SIM and you can have decent speeds for a very reasonable price. Luckily for me I have a decent fibre to the cabinet and have just had fibre to the door laid in the road, about to order that, but if I did t have these options I absolutely would use a cellular router like you. You just need to research it but you can really pay a low cost to use this option.

First off, love the channel. People sometimes forget just how rural Florida is once you leave the city. I wanted to add one note, I don't do a lot of social media etc. so I've never showcased my system however I do have T-Mobile home internet. While they do provide you a "home router" you can use any cellular router of your choosing, as long as it operates on the channels T-Mobile utilizes. I have their service in two areas, well north of Tampa and I average 200-300 down and 15-20 up. I have one in Tampa proper and see speeds of 550-600 down and 100-115 up. Those are huge numbers but again in Tampa proper. We've never hit a cap either. Hope this helps if you happen to be able to get T-Mobile.

Oh and you are right, this option is not widely known about. For some it’s a great option as they have poor speeds in the landline, no plans for fibre to their door, but they can get a decent 4G or 5G signal with someone. Much better value than Starlink.

Yes however far easier said than done. Carriers have access control lists to limit the end point devices permitted which makes it difficult to match configuration parameters for optimum performance to bond LTE channels if you can even connect at all. Hacking the RAN is not really an option when it's your only mission critical connection. But yeah it's doable albeit time consuming and frustrating.

Thanks for all of your videos on this topic. I currently run the exact same router from NetBuddy with the panel antenna from Waveform. It works great except like you said for the connectivity issue with the tower, but that rarely happens. I thought NetBuddy quit selling data plans? I ended up just adding a line to my AT&T cell phone plan and it is actually cheaper in the long run. Like Andrew said, the up front cost for the equipment is somewhat expensive, but it is so worth it in the long run!

Good Video man. Just a couple of comments here. I also waited on Starlink here in Florida. But when it finally came it was for RV. I set it up ona 8ft. pole and it was a almost painless install. BUT after about 45 days they shut it down and I couldn't activate again. They did this with no notice. I tried at least 20 times to get it working again. So now I have 2 complete systems I don't use. I bought a MOFI-5500 5G router and it is a POS compared to the Modem you and I now own. The 5500 never would and has never locked on to 5G. I bought a CPE-MESH system from the Internet with a RM520N-GL modem and it is a MOFI Killer. I have a 4X4 Mimo Yagi type antenna on it. My speeds are at least 400 MBPS Download And 35-50 Mbps upload. What I have looks identical to yours and maybe the same modem. I am waiting on a 4X4 Panel from Waveform and should be here next week. I will let you know how it works out compared to the 4X4 Yagi setup.

@@TKCL The new panel should be here Tuesday. It will be mounted in the same place as the yagi antennas. But with LMR-400 cable and not that 240 cable. Even 35 Ft. at those frequencies has a high loss. Sometimes more loss than the antenna has gain in that case you are spinning your wheels. I cut my loss by cutting the cable to 20 ft. but that was as short as I could go. SINR went from -8 to 19-20 db. So cable type and length makes a big difference. I will let you know what I find out here though. Have a great Sunday... Dave

Put in an address of someone I knew (with permission) that was in a service area, changed the shipping to my actual address, and then purchased. Once it arrived, installed the app, followed their setup instructions. It did warn that I was not in the service area, they base it from the 1st address. So there is a place in the app that you can change it, but don't put in the address. Use the map and GPS coord method and then it worked and error went away. It goes through the warm up sequence, etc. Then a week later, I changed to my actual address.

I like your but you wrong about T-Mobile home you can add antennas to it the only thing you have to do is take the case off and plug the leads in and use the same antenna as you do just have to work a little harder to do it. And it’s area caps You can down to T-Mobile and ask them if they have one and they will probably will. They just don’t mount to overload the towers. They work fine I did get one. You need before you say you can’t put antennas and can’t get one to check before you tell people. I like your channel not being hard on you but I know you can do that.thanks

Could not afford 5g router yet but got Cudy 4g LTE Ac 1200 router from netbuddy because I thought that would be good enough with the tower right behind my house. My speed is still very very slow. 4mbps/2mbps. Am I missing something with settings? With the tower so close I would think my speed would be screaming fast. What am I missing?
@TKCL
@TKCL 10 ай бұрын
You got the AT&T plan correct? The other possibilities that the tower is not aimed in your direction at all. I have a Verizon tower 1 mile from me and I get poor signal here because it's aimed away from our home. External antennas help. You can also use the program called cellmapper.net, and it can show you the band the tower runs on. You can log into your routers settings and band lock under that section, to the towers bands that are broadcasted. Sometimes this makes a big difference in signal.

Hey man im super interested in this! I currently have verizon home internet with their cube askey gateway. $45 a month. And get 70mbps no more no less. I love the price and im locked in for 10 years. Sounds great but i had the jetpack from verizon that was 80 a month and capped at 150 gb of data a month. But i got 200 to 250 mbps! On the jetpack.... my question is do you think this gateway router you have will get me back up to the speed i had
@TKCL

That's impossible to say because your location is different than mine. You could do better or worse. With that said 70Mbps and only $45 a month is a great deal, especially if it's unlimited.

next time show us ur carrier configuration like bands and what agreggation they use like for me i get about 750mbps down and 3-70mbps up its n78 (5G) + b1+b3+b7+b28/n28 (if it disconnects n78) my latency from 4G dropped by 10ms from 22ms down to 11ms, speeds increased from 150-300mbps down to 750 sometimes it peaks at 890mbps and n78 signal is on the edge so if it uses n78 for upload it almost drops out so it switches to 4G upload i bet ur getting B2+B66+n71 and i think you can optimise ur connection for better speeds and lower latency, and check if the modem is truly connected to 5G and try to enable 5G SA (standalone) that is pure 5G, no 4G as anchor for 5G Cell, that will drop the latency by 2x

@@TKCL That's only if you're using POE. If you are, it's only low current DC power it can't seriously hurt a person. DC at 1,000 volts is no more deadly than at 100 volts, it's changes in current measured in amperage that can mean the difference between life and death from an electrical shock. Watts / Volts = Amps Per IEEE standards, PoE is injected into a cable at voltage between 44 and 57V DC, typically 48V DC. Anything less than 35V AC or 60V DC is considered SELV ("Safety - Extra Low Voltage") so by definition, PoE enabled ports are SELV. Even with all that said in your case there's really no need at all to even use POE between buildings, if they have AC power, only regular standard ethernet is necessary and good for distances up to 330 feet. For when POE is required where AC is not available there's 4 different standards with different power levels. 1- 802.3af 2- 802.3at 3- 802.3bt (Type 3) 4- 802.3bt (Type 4) Only #4 goes up to 100W and only necessary to run computers and large television monitors. PoE IEEE 802.3af 12.95 W - 15.4 W surveillance cameras, VoIP phones, wireless access points PoE+ IEEE 802.3at 25.5 W - 30 W PTZ cameras, video IP phones, alarm systems PoE++ IEEE 802.3bt (Type 3) 51 W - 60 W Video conferencing equipment, multi-radio wireless access points PoE++ IEEE 802.3bt (Type 4) 71.3 W - 100 W Laptops, flat screens. .. Hey bud, take some corrugated pipe. Cut in in 12” pieces. Cut those pieces length wise so u have two 12in long cups. Put those cups between that flex duct and strapping. This stops the strapping from crushing the pipe which drastically restricts the airflow in the flex duct.
