Nice speeds when it works. I've had it for 2 months and am going back to Cox. It has become completely unreliable, and a major disruption to my remote work: about a month ago there was maintenance on a tower I was connected to (they never let you know it's coming; you just find out when it dies/comes back up/dies/comes back up.... and have to call them. In addition, the engineering team does not have an estimated up time.). I get redirected to a new one. Good for a while. Just happened (i.e., maintenance) again. Redirected me to a new tower (presumably a more stable one, not undergoing maintenance) and I lost connectivity 3x in the last hour). I'm done. I'll take stability over speed any day.

Excellent setup and overview information. Thanks. I recently received the unit. I sometimes get 4 bars and the speed has been reliable. If it holds up over time, this kind of service could be a game changer. The competing providers in the area want to bundle Internet and cable service. Not interested and I appreciate how easy it is to get started with the T-Mobile device.

Great video Triple M! You're lucky you get such great bandwidth. I have had this for a couple of months. I am in the suburbs of San Jose, CA (Campbell). It is good almost all the time, but only 30-50 MB/s. I am about 1/2 mile from a cell tower. Signal strength is 3 - 4 bars. I think I am getting only 4G. It was crappy Friday noon - evening, with 0 - 2 Mp/s. Customer support was responsive (611) but were not helpful in solving the problem. Good thing is the equipment is free, and there is no contract, so you can quit any time. By the way, when I had Comcast and it went down, I could use my T-Mobile phone as a hotspot backup. Now I have no backup. When the Nokia is bad, so is my phone. My boss suggested bringing back Comcast as a backup. (after I dropped out of a meeting yesterday due to T-Mobile issues) Right now on TM, I'm getting 35 Mbps download and 13 Mbps upload.

wow that's rough, living in the Bay Area I couldn't think of why networks such as I had ATT and mobile would be lagging versus other areas of the country I had ATT when I left the Bay Area and they rocked with LTE at 100 mbps and 5ge at 200mbps more than my house on Comcast yeah I would have Comcast as a back up most providers have a basic internet tier like 25 mbps. I was born and raised in San Jose so I grew up with Comcast in my experience I moved to SoCal now we have spectrum so so so 100x better than Comcast. their minimum tier speed is 200mbps and even in my small town near fields I have 400 mbps/200 mbps on wifi.

There website states it's not allowed to be used other than in your home because they want to manage the activity on their towers. However I wondered if they some how linked it with a towers in your zip code or GPS location to prevent it from working on the road. This becomes the ultimate device for motor homes, RV, or just camping provided you can come up with 120vac. What is the ouput voltage of the transformer? There might be another way of supplying power to it instead of the stock power supply.
@jaycahow4667

I would think Starlink is more the ultimate device as it does not need any type of cell service at all. Currently though it has the same user location limitations and it only supposed to be used at its designated location.

In india they sell portable wifi data devices about thge size of a computer mouse. In addition to that device they give u a telephone number so a smart phone can be paired with the wifi device. In addition upto a dozen devices can connect to that vis wifi. The device sells for about $20 upfront cost and you have different data plans with a plan that offers 2 gb per day for a month at $5 (FIVE DOLLARS) per month. Th eplatform is called JIO and is so popular that people carry that in their pocket, and have a phone line all the time and when you come home your home devices will connect to it. You can see how the US ohone companies are looting and ripping customers with high cost of wireless tel services.

First off realize that the best position for 5G is probably not the best position for WiFi if you are connecting that way. That is why they should not be in the same device. You can use a different WiFi router in a different place plugged into the 5G. Second the 5G router is not only sensitive to location but also to direction. It has two sets of 5G antennae located at each side and even just slightly turning it can really effect your 5G signal. Some people have hooked it up to fixed external antennae and gotten a much better signal but this requires disassembly. It would have been a better product with built in external antennae jacks.

Tmobile does have a fail safe on location. There is a gps inside device and and if it’s being used in a non approved area they will disconnect and terminate your internet service. I think it’s in their policy agreements. They do that to prevent having many people in a HINT tower. So it’s a good thing for customers just have to follow the “rules”.

Some users are reporting that when they first set up their T-Mobile modem they were getting good speeds but after a few days or weeks suddenly their speed crashed down to almost nothing. It will be interesting to see if this happens to you or not. In my case, I tried out the service but I had to send it back because the speed was so slow it was virtually unusable. I think it depends a lot on your location so someone seeing your review should not necessarily assume that they will get the same speeds that you got.

Happen to me but was after 3 months of using it. Speeds were still fast on my T-Mobile phone but speeds coming from the T-Mobile home internet were much much slower. I tried rebooting and even called T-Mobile and all they would say is that the Unlimited T-Mobile home internet is giving a much lower priority on the network then unlimited phone data. But after dealing with it for a week I called T-Mobile and told them I was out. Went back to Spectrum. Love the speeds I get on my phone but the home internet speeds were just not reliable enough for the money imo. But different people seem to have different experiences depending on where they are.

@@keep.clam.shine.on. t works off unused signal flow on the tower. It is going to be bad when there is lots going on at your tower. It should be better early and late in the day when cell traffic is less. Might not be viable for many in congested areas. If they give it lower priority than phone then that makes it even more prone to congestion. Might make sense as a backup but I would prefer a guaranteed speed.

Cryptographic keys enable LTE to provide many of the strong security features built into the system. There are many different keys used to protect different layers of LTE communication. All of these keys are derived from a secret pre-shared key referred to as ‘K’. This key resides in two places within the network: one is the USIM running on the UICC and the other is within the carrier’s HSS/AuC. The USIM manufacturer may also have access to K if it is responsible for burning the key into the USIM. Depending on how K is provisioned to the UICC it may be possible for a malicious actor to gain access to this secret key responsible for all of LTE’s cryptographic functions. If an actor gains access to K they have the potential to both impersonate a subscriber on the network and the ability to decrypt communication from the subscriber for whom K was provisioned.

Three major problems with this unit. 1. If 2 or 1 bar, does not work at all. So you have to have great coverage. 2. Supports only 5 ghz band. Not dual band, so you have to have router to service older devices. 3. Why no jack for external antenna. Which may fix issue with 1.

Well, I am in the middle of a bad experience with T-Mobile home internet. I was told that the 5G router was out of stock when I noticed that I was experiencing a great deal of buffering occurring. When I tested the speed it was below 1 Mbps yes 1 Mbps. I called the T-Mobile home internet technical support phone number only to be told that the 5G routers would not be in stock till October. I received my router back in December of 2020 thinking, or trusting, I should say that I would receive a 5G router as I was told I would. So I've been a customer of T-Mobile for over six years now and I had no reason to mistrust. It turns out that what T-Mobile home internet had sent me for a router was just a 4G router. I didn't even bother to check because I had reason to trust but that most certainly has changed, my bad. Just wanted to share this with you. The recap I bought into a service thinking I was going to receive broadband 5G service and instead got a very very slow 1 Mbps router. Needless to say I am not happy.
@jaycahow4667
@jaycahow4667 2 жыл бұрын
They supplied 4G routers while the 5G was not available. Since this service is both a 4G and 5G service with bundled 4G doing much of the work I question how much fast it will be with the 5G router. It depends very much on what tower you connect to and how much traffic that tower gets. Home Internet users get the lowest traffic priority.

First put it by a open window. It requires Cell signal to convert into wifi network. Cell signal gets super weak in buildings. So putting it by a window will help it A LOT. Find a window in the direction of a t-mobile tower. Say if it's the eastern side of the house like in the kitchen. Put it there and wire a Ethernet cable from there to your main router box. It'll be funky, But this'll give the best ability. Also disable wifi on it and plug a ethernet to your existing router. The wifi on the unit will get the device hot and start to have speed performance drops due to heating. This should help your system better.
