T-Mobile 5G Home Internet WiFi Off | EASY METHOD | All Gateways | HINT Control App Android

In this video I discuss how to turn off the WiFi Bands on any of the T-Mobile 5G Home Internet Gateways. This method will work on the Nokia 5G21, Arcadyan KVD21, and the Sagemcom FAST 5688W. This is by far the simplest and easiest method to date to turn off your gateways WiFi and use a third party router.

I have a T Mobile Nokia gateway and had previously turned off ALL the wifi manually. I have the Nokia plugged into a Moca adapter and then, using my old cable wiring plugged my Old router into another Moca adapter in another room. I utilized an Asus Chrome Box hard-wired to my old router to download the HINT Control app. I loved the Advanced option on the app to see the IP address. Once I confirmed the IP address was correct, I typed in the Nokia password and instantly the app opened. I pressed the bottom WIFI icon and it showed me all the WIFI connections the Nokia had and ALL were UNCHECKED because I had previously manually turned them all off. As you can see, the app worked with a Moca adapter through cable wiring, my old router, and even a Chrome BOX. Great little app. Thanks soooo much for your videos and for bringing this great app to our attention. Anthony

Hi, I have eero mesh system setup with a separate network which is my tmobile for backup. I want to add t mobile network to my mesh system, would doing this be helpful? And I would need to use ios. My goal is to mitigate any competing wifi signals - two networks, one mesh system and turning off wifi is my goal. Does that make sense? ty

Hi Donna, What you want to do is not possible with just the eero. You will need to purchase a dual WAN router. This router will accept two separate internet connections and bond them (making them one). You would need to connect your eero to this router if you wanted to keep it as your Wi-Fi. Otherwise you would just use the Wi-Fi on the router with the dual WAN and eliminate the router altogether.

Nice video. Thanks. Any idea on how I can put the router on the TMO gateways in bypass? I want to use the TMO internet as a backup WAN on my Unifi Dream Machine, but I don't want to screw around with double nat. I actually tried the service awhile back and sent everything back because of being forced to use their device as a router. I'm wondering if anything has changed.

Well the only way to use them with a router of your choice and avoid a double NAT is to use a third party 5G Modem like the invisagig I reviewed on my channel or put the unifi router in bridge mode and only use the WiFi and none of the routing features of the device and have it connected to the T-Mobile supplied gateway.

Okay, I'm a little confused as to why the need to disconnect the T-Mobile wifi on the Sagemcom Gateway. Let me see if I'm confused about this: I want to use a personal WiFi router connected to the T-Mobile Gateway through the LAN port of the Gateway. I have my personal router VPN address/DNS there so I can watch MLB in my city. I also want to NOT have to run the VPN on each home device. Will this work, or do I need to turn off the T-Mobile gateway Wi-Fi to get the results I want? Thanks

Disconnecting the Wi-Fi on the T-Mobile gateway just ensures there’s no signal degradation or bleed over from having two Wi-Fi signals broadcasting in your house. If your router allows you to pick the Wi-Fi channel you could use a Wi-Fi analyzer and manually set the channel on the router to avoid this and then their would be no problem. The T-Mobile gateway does not offer the options you’re looking for so the only way to achieve your desired result is with a third party gateway but you will incur a double NAT by doing so because you technically need to have either the gateway or the router in bridge mode for optimal results. The T-Mobile gateway doesn’t offer this function and your third party router will lose all capabilities to do this if you place it in bridge mode.

Hi I'm using model FAST 5688w I have a new phone and the password does not work obviously it's not transmitting because is hooked up to a router. If I reset the T-Mobile internet how old I will be able to do this step again?

I'm not sure what you're asking. If you have the wifi turned off and reset the the device to factory defaults you should be able to follow the video and do it again. In theory as long as you type the admin password correctly in the app it should just take a minute or two to do it again.

The app is available on iPhone but you have to side load it on your device. The instructions are on the website linked in the description. I wouldn’t recommend doing this though. I would try using the windows, Mac or Linux version of the app instead and just make sure your computer is connected to the gateway via Ethernet.

It’s not currently listed as a supported device on the application’s git hub page. I don’t have one to test either, but if it has similar firmware to the arcadyan kvd21 then there’s a good chance it will work.

@@helphqwas able to access with the app. Had all the functionality to turn off both radio bands. I didn’t actually do it but seems like it will work. Why does the app say turn hidden networks on if the radios are turned off?

So I searched Nokia 5G gateway I improvements and this is the first video I got. Can someone explain how turning off the Wi-Fi will make my internet at home better? Wouldn’t that mean having no internet?

It’s not going to improve the Nokia gateway. This video is for those that want to use a third party router with T-Mobile home internet. Because the gateways need to be in most cases in a undesirable place in your home for best reception using a third party router and turning off the Wi-Fi will give you better Wi-Fi coverage in your home.

@@helphq oh, i see. That makes sense. Don’t know why I didn’t think of getting an additional router. Was trying to improve the performance of the gateway itself My gateway’s ideal position for signal from the tower isn’t ideal for the rest of my devices. Basically on the other side of the house the important stuff, like my desktop and gaming consoles.

Will the roku router work

I’m not tracking that Roku makes a router. Your Roku device should connect to your third party router fine or even the supplied gateway. If it doesn’t then I would check to make sure your router or gateway is broadcasting in mixed mode and if that doesn’t fix it then change the channel your router is broadcasting on for 2.4 and 5Ghz.

I got error code when I put in admin password

Are you connected to the gateway on the device you are trying to use either by Wi-Fi or Ethernet? If you are have you at any point changed the admin password? You can change it during the setup process so if you did change it then it would be that password now. If none of them apply I would make sure you’ve not accidentally mistyped the password and include all periods between the words. It’s hard to troubleshoot without being able to see what exactly you’re trying to do, what device you’re using and how your isp setup is.

If you are properly logged into the gateway it should be under the WiFi section at the bottom of the screen.

I think I know what's going on. The app hides the SSID. When I use an app that shows local WiFi the T-Mo comes up a hidden SSID.

The Hint control app at least on Android and Windows. It seems to just hide the SSID.

RollBack: How do you turn WiFi back on after you have turned it off?

You can use the reset button on the gateway and it will return it to factory defaults. It usually requires a paperclip or something to press and hold the button. You can also connect to the gateway via Ethernet and toggle the WiFi back on in the HINT Control app. If you’ve connected a third party router to the T-Mobile gateway via Ethernet to use for WiFi instead then you should be able to access the gateway over WiFi to toggle it back on.

Does this just hide the SSID?

So some people seem to think so, but after I started seeing comments about it hiding the SSID as opposed to actually turning it off I scanned the Wi-Fi signals with an analyzer application on my MacBook. It shows everything being used and on what channel regardless of whether or not the SSID is being broadcasted and it didn’t show any indication (at least in my case) that the SSIDs were being hidden. That being said I was using the Sagemcom gateway perhaps the comments were coming from people using a different gateway.

@@helphq I was able to confirm this works as well. As soon as I turned them off my TV and my phone, which were both using the gateway modem's WiFi lost their connection to the internet, so now I know it does work.
