Great advice. Yes, it is a business and if you want to make it, you have to understand the business not just focus on the glamour and the perceived money. You have to understand contracts and what the terms mean. You have to understand how marketing and PR work. You also have to understand how you get paid by reading the fine print.

I love hearing from T Pain he one of the realest dudes in the game, but seriously who actually believes that the labels are not planning out everything in advance lol. Come on that's just common sense. I personally think that albums are a waste of time this is 2021 in the era of streaming singles is the way to go. In the past they needed albums because they was selling vinyl's, cassettes, or cds and they had to fill them up with a bunch of songs cause aint nobody gonna buy a cd with 1 song on it. Now a day peeps will download only the songs they like fuck a album and the filler songs that they used to put on it.

Technically speaking no one really thinks of a surprise album as something that was done quickly or finished close to release date... It just means the masses weren't aware a album was coming because it wasn't promoted. Obviously the artist isn't surprising themselves with the album they have been working on lol they're surprising the fans that weren't thinking one was about to drop. I agree it makes more sense to promote it everyday but for these big artist that will do numbers regardless it can benefit them to have everybody in a frenzy to check out what they just dropped without warning similar to Drake with IYRTITL. Also it eliminates any let down from a over hyped project that doesn't quite hit upon first listen, albums like that tend to throw the audience off from the jump because it doesn't match their expectations. A surprise album will make the listener more likely to appreciate whatever they are getting from the artist because anything is more than nothing which is what they thought they were getting that week.
