Thank You Tony Visconti! You played an important role in my early teenage years. Ride The White Swan, Hot Love, Get It On, and especially the Jeepster were some of the first songs that I got interested in during that strange period when a boy transforms from a childhood to something called a teenager. My first girl friend, who was a rather straight-soken person, told me that my biggest fault was that I did not look at all like Brian Connolly (lead singer of Sweet), but, on the other hand, if I would get my long hair curled, I would look a bit like Marc Bolan. For couple of weeks I vacillated between the two options: should I do it, or not. I hated the idea, because I thought it would make me look less manly, but then again, if I did it, would she... Eventually, the problem was solved. She found somebody who looked exactly like Brian Connolly.

Mr. Visconti played the bass on the David Bowie album "The Man Who Sold the World"...Outstanding classic late 60's/early 70's power trio style bass. On par with guys like Jack Bruce or Geezer Butler...

So, true story here. in 1973 I was in the 8th grade, in Denver. A local radio station had a call-in line to make requests. I called it to request this song. But... I dialed the wrong number. When a lady answered (she sounded elderly), I just said "Bang a Gong, Get it On" and all I heard was a scream "Whaaat?!" and I hung up, thoroughly embarrassed. I can only imagine what she must have thought.

Tony Visconti is a popular music legend. I passed up the opportunity to talk to him when he was attending a gig by his long term girlfriend, Kristeen Young, who was performing at a north London pub venue (my friends' band was supporting her, but I would have been there anyway). I just couldn't think of what to say to him other than 'thank you', so I left it to my friends to bask in his aura. Kristeen is great as well, by the way. Check out her tracks You Always Win, The Devil Made Me, Kill The Father and Catland.
