My Catalinbread was easily the most I had ever shelled out for a delay pedal but oh my god. Easily the best delay I've used even without using the multiple head setting. Thank you guys for comparing it to the real thing!

Have you tried a Boonar and/or Catalinbread Echorec alongside it? I'm tossing up between these two, as to which to get ... ? Anyone tried both? Ideally, alongside an actual Binson?!
@cristouk6 жыл бұрын
I played in a dub reggae band years ago and we had a Binson - it was brilliant. Our engineer used to take the top off the unit, dub a guitar or keyboards into it and then spin the drum around backwards for some really spacy reverse echo :-)
@michaelshearer45647 жыл бұрын
You hope we enjoyed this? Are you kidding? Simply brilliant! What incredible memories this brings back. I was 15 in 1972 and had just moved to Phoenix, Arizona from the mid west. I had a new band, an old Strat and a worn out Dark Side Of The Moon LP. I had literally worn out the grooves in the album where the solos were from playing them over and aver trying to learn them. I actually owned one of these in the mid 70's. I think it was a T7 model. That's what I remember anyway. Hands down the coolest peice of outboard gear I've ever owned. It really shaped the way I wrote songs, then and now. Wish I still had it. It just wore out and at that time I had no way of repairing it. I just odered a "Boonar" yesterday and have big expectations. I think it will sound great with my old rack mount BK Butler "Tube Driver" in front of it. Great video guys. I just found your channel but I've subscribed and will be back for more! Thank you both for the ride back in time. Your both allot younger than I am, but you get it!

That thing is intriguing, like every note is an enigma. Most times lead guitar becomes a snoozefest after a few minutes but I am listening to every passage engrossed in where it's going, like a musical journey, perhaps the best guitar effect I have ever heard
@danabnormal58928 жыл бұрын
When I think back to my guitar tone before that pedal show the improvement has been immense. I was doing so much wrong. Now I use more effects but at the same time i have a much clearer, more present, better feeling, more reliable, and beautiful sounding tone that I don't think I would ever have achieved without that pedal show. And I haven't spent much more money than I would usually spend on gear in a year. All I've really done is apply what I've learned. That's that pedal show.

The Binson sounds much warmer and completely synergistic to the guitar and amp. Gave me instant goosebumps. None of the pedals had the same feel. Thanks for sharing this gents. Made my day.

Echorec’s are my favorite delay effects of all time. There’s some pingy upper harmonic modulation thing that happens that’s pure magic to me. Sounds like tape echo and spring reverb had a beautiful baby. A friend has a very nice studio and had an original unit for years, but it was constantly breaking and/or needed to be cleaned so he never used it!! Think he ended up selling it. Meanwhile I’ve had the Catalinbread on my touring bass pedal board for 7 years 😂

Thanks for responding to the requests for doing this (no doubt I was one of many all those months ago!). I have Catalinbread and Echosex2. The latter is less digital, more organic etc than the former and I regularly get lost in the moment playing it. The Catalinbread is good for those 5% of the time moments when I want the crazy repeat patterns. But the main conclusion from this is that when I win the lottery I need to put an original Binson on the shopping list. Anyway, huge thanks and chuffed you've fallen under the spell as well.

Likely my favorite video from the both of you to date!! Amazing!! I greatly appreciate what you bring to the masses.
@mcpribs8 жыл бұрын
From Tone Tribune: Catalinbread’s Echorec even retains a similar preamp circuit to the original that can be used in buffered mode to help drive long cables while giving your signal path a warm, fat boost that you will not want to turn off. One neat trick you can do is turn the internal gain trimmer all the way up and switch to true bypass setting inside the pedal. Now when you turn it on your face will melt in a blast of vintage fuzz and echo that you can tame with your volume knob almost like a vintage Fuzzface!

I used to own a PE-603T like the one in the video. The sound they have is unique and still heavenly. Nothing comes close to the sound of Binson original units. Thanks for featuring one in this video.

It`s not often that you hear a piece of gear in the `We`re not worthy` class but the Echorec is jaw-dropping, face smacking good ...... absolutely stunning. I agree absolutely also that the pre-amp sounds astonishingly good. Interesting that Xotic have duplicated the EP3 pre-amp with their EP Booster but no-one has attempted to reproduce the Echorec pre-amp .... Maybe because there are so few Echorecs around ( and most of those are confined to studios ) so they aren`t often heard ? Dan coming in his jeans was a sight I could have done without but I can understand his reaction. Sometimes there just aren`t words ................. Thanks guys. Thanks for the show guys. I particularly appreciate having an alternative to listening to BBC World Service which tends to traumatise me these days. I'm a spoilt violinmaker these days, my wife allows backline in the living room. I was in bands from age 11 to 31 (without a break) so got through some gear. A couple of things. I love my AC30 too and used to run it with a Marshall 50watt master volume combo and then later with a Fender twin. I bought a Marshall Power Brake for the Vox which worked really well. I used to find the sweet point of driving the amp and then just adjust the volume on the power brake. Can't remember losing loads of tone, Just that people seem to suggest online that you do. Another thing. I used to use a Watkjins valve Copycat. When I was a teenager in the 70s Copycats seemed quite common, then Watkins re-released the valve one which I used throughout my career. You don't seem to hear much about them. I remember ringing up the factory to order one and actually spoke to Charlie Watkins, who was really friendly and helpful. Anyway, I wanted to say it has some great features. First of all 3heads,. I generally use two together which gives more of a reverb effect than just one repeat, which I like. I also use a T rex Reptile 2 just before it with a longer echo which I set with the tap tempo. Incidentally the Copycat also has a speed control which really helps to fine tune the feel of the echo. The tape loops are really easy to make up so I just made a bunch and put them in the box ready to change if needed. It was never an issue, and there were times when I was doing 60 gigs a year.

Please do an oil can delay episode! Compare an old unit to modern pedals. Please! This would be the only show to do it justice!

First, Thank You for the great show! I have learned so much from (re)watching your shows. Right after you switched from the boonar to the Echorec, I ordered one online. It arrived today, and it is replacing my Flashback (custom Toneprinted to act like an Echorec). I thought I would share my boonar settings: Input Control: 12:00 Drum Age: almost fully counter-clockwise = dirty/worn "organic" drum Volume: #2 Tone: full Treble Swell: #6 Drum Speed: #8.25 = 200BPM = 300ms = original Echorec delay limit Playback head: #4 Swell/Repeats: Swell (light) off Original/Modern DIP Switch: Original Question: Did you try the Original/Modern DIP Switch? I like the original setting for a more "decades old" tone (& increase the treble on the amp). Anyone want to share their boonar settings?

I listened to this without watching and I can confirm that the shizzle is the bizzle.

Yet another killer show. I swear you two have the most enjoyable and informative gear videos on the internet, and I count down the days every time till the next one comes out. Still waiting on that show on attenuators! Any ETA?
@ThatPedalShow8 жыл бұрын
+thedriftersmusic Thank you TDM! We are working up to the attenuator episode. Latest purchase is a 50-watt Plexi. It could definitely use some attenuating!

Yes! I asked for a muti-head delay episode, featuring Echorec and Boonar a while ago :P Thank you so much! Fun fact, David Gilmour's been using the Boonar for some time.

I dunno what's different with this episode, but both Dan and Mick's guitars are sounding so good.
