As Ramprasad has stated, why cant he donate 50%of his income towards downtrodden people from creators in music field ,instead of fancying them on posters ??!! TMK is like actor Surya ( for JaiBhim) , wants his award ,money etc but wont actually do anythjng for economically affected people. TMK is a hypocrite who used all opportunities from carnatic music to get his name, fame and power but now using it in the most horrible way. Senior vidwans are silent as they are worried if their fame( earned all these years) might drop / people might misjudge them for openly pointing out this hypocrisy etc etc. Sad to see Caenatic music in this state. Evil looks cool nowadays.. That's the trend. Really pathetic. Why other community stalwarts like Yesudas has not produced sishyas from their communities? Sirkali Govindarajan should have taught/ brought many chettiar sishyas, but yesudass and sirkali taught their sons only. Dandapani Desikar, Madurai Somu should have groomed many sishyas from their communities but they didn’t. Brahmins on their own interest are learning without worrying about the financial prospects of Carnatic music. Only a very few become rich and famous thru Carnatic music but a large number learn of Brahmins for their interest and commitment towards culture and traditions. Instead of blaming one community, ask questions to other community stalwarts of yesteryears as to why they never bothered to teach music to students of their communities.

There is another heresay story. Mani Iyer was reported to have rejected the Padma Award when it was announced. His contention was that his guru was not bestowed with such awards and therefore he will not accept. But elderly musicians pleaded with him, that the award is a recognition to the Mirudangam and the art associated with that and he then reluctantly accepted it.

It's only hearsay. Awards like Padma are not announced before the awardee gives his confirmation that he will accept the honour bestowed. These awards are announced in the name of the President, hence any rejection of the award will be considered a big insult to the head of the state, so the govt will personally inform the awardee and then will announce it publicly only after the awardee gives his consent.

No she is not. She has clearly stated in one interview. She is opposed to Tmk’s views and negative comments on the singers and the whole attitude of tmk. In fact in an interview, when asked about teaching Carnatic music to non Brahmins children, (which is another thing tmk went around accusing every singer) Sudha mam’- asked ‘has tmk done it! (meaning - is he practicing what he’s preaching?)

TMK is creating listeners from kuppam. His concerts, even at the sabhas, attract many young and including from the non-Brahmin communities. Let them first savour the music which is bringing to them, performers from there will follow in due course of time. Whatever the legacy, each has his own identity. You have no right to take away what your thatha earned on his merit in a different era. You have retuned HIS gift, how do you intend to return the honour the SABHA gave? By your argument of not wanting to place an outcast adjacent to your thatha's portrait, would you also filter out audience for your kacheri - not to sully my gathering with those who attended & enjoyed TMK? About the credits for instrument makers, you seem clearly cornered, don't keep shifting the goalpost for TMK.

Creating listeners from kuppam and attracting youngsters from non brahmin communities? do you have any evidence to support that claim? First tell me if he has made a boy/girl sing carnatic music from kuppam or a dalit student in all these years. Prove it first and then throw stones at PRP. The only thing TMK has done all these years is turning his own brahmin students into non brahmins, nothing big or substantial to uplifting the lives of dalits or help take carnatic music into their lives. PRP or his family has every right to return the award as they see fit, the only one who has no rights to question is you, who's in no way related or connected to their family.

Even Sudha Raghunathan,Aruna Sairam,Bombay Jayashree,Ranjani Gayathri,Abhishek Raghuram,Ramana Balachandran have attracted fans from other communities.Please do come and listen to their music in other cities,states.Many youth from other religions communities come and listen to them.They have huge fan base than TMK.
