I'll be trackside with every other foamer in the country when that thing wooshes by and breaks Tornado's (and Malard's...) land speed record for steam. No. No we can't. You guys have said from the beginning that you would have LOVED to go with an original cast steel locomotive bed, but there are NO FOUNDRIES within the US anymore capable of doing THAT LARGE (Over 70 tons) a casting in ONE POOR anymore. The closest you could find onshore was 50 tons. While China and Korea still do castings that large, nobody in the US handles that kind of volume anymore. Kudos to T-1 for keeping things onshore, even if they aren't authentic. I'm probably going to get much flack from this comment, and I'm far from close to the project or in the loop; but i do distinctly remember the reasons given in previous videos as to why you didn't purchase a 1-piece casting... CAPABILITIES OF FOUNDRIES was chief among them!
@Cvetka_Safiren3 күн бұрын
I'm going to rule that "building a whole new foundry large enough to pour such a large casting just for the sake of this project" is technically within the realm of "possible but cost-prohibitive". Anything is possible if you've got the money; that no one has the money is beside the point.
