11:55 nice focus, that moment was very zone. I like how you include the cutting on different targets and don't rush anything. Fair point about the deeper fuchi acting to hold the tsuka together better. Lately here it's all about the full samegawa wraps for that reason. Cutting hard targets, a little extra structure adds a lot of confidence to the handle. Gluing them permanent also helps, as I never really take them off anyway. Gorilla glue works for everything sword-related, just gotta use only a tiny bit.

That is a beautiful sword, and it's nice to see you getting back into cutting. I could see you were getting a bit frustrated at times, but you shouldn't worry about it. You'll get back to normal in the end. but these things take time. And as I've found before now, the older you get. the longer they take lol. But I dare say you'll soon be back in your old cutting form. 🙂

Great to see back on the screen 👍. That unokubi nice, I have to agree to,they should feel nimble in the hands. Mine from hanbon is well balanced and weighs 2 pounds 3 ounce. Murasame does make a nice katana, my shinogi from them I really like the color scheme, the saya is nice, just wasn't impressed with the L6.

Very cool thank you for sharing how scratched up did that sword get with the bottle cuts and bamboo cutting? I am also really interested to see how much the lemon juice will make the Hammond pop out! Thank you for sharing! :-)
@samuraibyrd2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Daniel,it was very scratch resistant. Bamboo doesn’t scratch as bad as bottles. Ive used lemon juice several times. It takes several wipe downs with washing with soap in between.

@JoeSteel12 жыл бұрын
yea its kind of weird that you got that much residues on the ito, makes me feel it's some kind of paint on the pieces that came off. what great performer on that bamboo, unokubi is like the best geometric, not much different that Shinogi in strength because of the reinforced tip and its so well balanced and aerodynamic to make it cut through the air more nimble...me personally I would keep away from ito that's too light in color, all in all great video Byrd, impressed 👍
@samuraibyrd2 жыл бұрын
Yeah,light color ito can be a problem unless you lacquer it right away before using.

Great cutting session, and much respect for also showing the odd miss or fail. Got me curious about my Cloudhammer unokubi. Never thought of it as top heavy per se, so I'm wondering if there's some variance in the specs? Got my calipers out and measured the distal taper. Goes 7.2mm at the habaki, smooth transition down to 5.4mm where it kinda hangs out mid-blade, and only barely tapers again to 4.8mm, then back up again to 4.9mm just behind the kissaki. So yeah, I guess it is a bit top heavy! My only other unokubi is the Huawei, which weighs a full oz more, and feels about the same. Of the two, I prefer the Huawei over the Cloudhammer because... well just because. Hard to say why. Have dulled my CH down for an unokubi iaito, and keeping the Huawei sharp as the cutting version. Both are really nice imo. Sorry for the ramble but it seems like that kinda place :)
@samuraibyrd2 жыл бұрын
Your always welcome to ramble on my channel,lol. Yeah, i think im going to dull my cloudhammer too,and use it strictly for practice. Its just way too top heavy for regular usage.
@KF12 жыл бұрын
@@samuraibyrd Liking it better as an iaito for sure. I find it helps to think of the CH uno as actually the handling of a light shinogi. Although nimbility is a thing lol. Much enjoying this review, lots of content packed in.
