Great set. I have the same T2 Laserdisc but in the Gold packaging. Thanks for sharing

Classic release! I've got the gold foil pressing and will cherish it until either I or my shelves crumble to dust! That older CAV boxed set of the theatrical cut actually doesn't have a commentary track - just a 30-minute made for cable "Making Of" documentary, a thin booklet, and a rather cool signed memo from James Cameron on a fancy Lightstorm Entertainment letterhead. I still hold onto it out of T2 love, but this Special Edition box certainly smokes it in just about every way possible. I also only watch the long versions of T2 and Aliens now and consider those the definitive cuts. Cheers!

Riddler95 Good call, I forgot to mention The Abyss too - never went back to the theatrical cut of that one once the extended version came out. They did an AC-3 re-release of that film/version too in 1996. I own a copy of that one, but I never did snag the AC-3 reissue of T2.

Riddler95 That AC-3 version of The Abyss is really nice too - it's a Super NTSC Kuraray pressing. It still has the documentary from the boxed set too. Yeah, it definitely needs a Blu-ray! I remember buying the DVD from Circuit City, which goes to show how ancient it is.

Nice, I have the Sliver one, I do not know if there is a difference between the different colors, or if they were all the same with just a different front plate

I still have both the Silver Edition and the Standard CLV Extended Edition. After all these years they still rock. Still have all my laserdiscs :) Oz box, E.T box, Star Wars Box, almost all of the Signature Collection series, some Japanese (Star Wars EP 1, Mad Max, Lexx, Planet of the Apes Box). Ahhhh, good memories.....

I have the silver version. I heard there was a problem with that pressing. My 1983 player plays it with black specs all over the picture. Course you don't want to play it on a machine without digital sound unless you only want to listen to the commentary tracks. It plays fine on my 1989 machine.

Oof, sounds like it had laser rot issues. That sucks, and is very rare for titles from Pioneer to have those issues, they were usually pretty reliable.
@lutello30124 ай бұрын
Well the playback is spotless on my other two players so I'm not too worried. I remember reading a note somewhere that may have been explaining this problem but now I can't find it.

So bizarre! Just some weird quirk about the how the older player reads newer discs I guess? Or some weird authoring issue with that one in particular that doesn't like older players. I'm stumped as to what might cause that! I assume other discs play fine on that player too, so not a player issue. So odd!

I want one. I thought the extended Frighteners laserdisc set was nice but that's even better. I wish I'd picked up a spare laserdisc player or two when they were borderline worthless as they're still a worthwhile format especially as I have a handful of titles that have never had decent DVD releases (plus with my Naked Lunch VHS corrupted and long since binned, my DVD copy scratched and skipping thanks to an idiot "friend" and the region B blu-bay expensive, barebones and with terrible artwork, my laserdisc is the only, presumably, working copy I have of an all time favourite)

I just got this blue variant for $35 on the Bay in July '24. I think that was a fair price.

Nice, you got a very good deal!

On top of this and your Criterion of Blade Runner, did you ever show off the other Laserdiscs that weren't included in your "Remnants" series (in other videos)?
@visionaryventures128 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You go the extra mile in actually making an encyclopedia video article of these home video sets. Incidentally, what is that sound at 17:56?

So is it true that out of all the different colored version's that were put out, the blue version you have Sean is the rarest?

hey Zaranyzerak, have you read the "Terminator Vault" book?

I haven't actually checked out many of the Vault books, though I do have the one for Transformers and it's awesome. I'll have to keep an eye out for the Terminator one!

Don't bother with the 4K release It's the theatrical version!
@zaranyzerak6 жыл бұрын
No, it's got all the different cuts. But the transfer is DNR'd shit yet again, so that's why I won't be bothering.
@davidcallinicos19766 жыл бұрын
The Blurays do but not the 4K
@zaranyzerak6 жыл бұрын
Oooh, I see what you mean. Yeah, only the Theatrical Cut got the 4K treatment, the other cuts are Blu-ray only. Which totally sucks as the Special Edition version is the only cut I'll watch now, it's by far the definitive version.
@David3158428 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised that you didn't mention that Pioneer helped to invent the Laserdisc format, hence why their products were superior. :D Anyway, yes I agree that looks like a beautiful set indeed. Could have done with including both commentaries somehow but what can you do? :)
@David3158428 жыл бұрын
***** Ah of course that makes sense. But then, that also solves the problem. Like Blu-rays off today, they could have shoved another two discs for the Theatrical cut, problem solved. Though this would likely bump up the price to $300, ah well, it just would have made it more deluxe. ;)
@David3158428 жыл бұрын
***** I'll bet Pioneer wish they came up with that idea later on. ;)
@David3158428 жыл бұрын
***** To which Pioneer failed to provide. Though mind you this format was the size of vinyl and was more fragile, so there were those things to consider as well, and more so then the layered cuts. Still, it sounded like a fair attempt at the idea.
@David3158428 жыл бұрын
***** Yes that's true, though what I said in my comment kind of implied the technological limitations and what Pioneer would have tried to fix first, before adding more audio/video levels to their discs. But bottom line is, yes you're right. The tech just wasn't there yet and wouldn't be till the turn of the century and failed may have been a bit harsh, still, they could have perfected the technology, though I guess that would only be if Laserdiscs sold better in other areas around the world like in Europe.

Why is the Showtime logo on the back sheet?

Because the included featurette "T2: More Than Meets The Eye" was a Showtime special.
