Uinmig reached out and gave us their latest gas lens kit to review.
Spoiler alert, it's amazing!
These gas lens kits fill all the gaps with the T2/T3W Tig torch system.

Awesome video mate perfectly explained in every way, showing use for each part and your thoughts and feelings towards them makes for a great informed watch 👍🏼 cheers

I watch a lot of TIG vids, and this was excellent - just watching how you use the lenses and your observations of how they perform is far more useful than any explainer vid I've watched. Solid content, thanks for taking the time, you are making a difference 👍🙏

You're the reason I bought this same welder, and I'm loving it. The T2 starter kit that my kit came with seems a bit more basic than the one you showed at the end though. But I need a lot more practice with the standard gear anyway, once I my technique improves and is consistent I will definitely be getting this super series kit. Thanks for showing us. Oh and that intro got an instant like and deserves many more 😁👍👊

from what i;ve been told the larger gas lenses can hide some of the tell tale signs of bad welds, too hot etc, so I'm the same as you, practising to get good at the basic stuff before upping my game

That is a lot nicer than my Miller setup. I'll need to see what options Miller has, but haven't welded for a good five years.

@@LittleAussieRockets Riding a bike may not be a good thing for me. I am still recovering from a bike accident one year and one week ago. Carbon fiber fork broke inside titanium frame - immediate faceplant. Facial fracture, rotator cuff surgery on 9/7 and 2nd round of surgery on that 2/17, plus just had my fifth MRI on Friday - this time for hand/wrist that shows I'll either need surgery, injection or ????

Thanks for the review. Bought the same welder a couple of years ago after watching your unboxing and review of the Razor 200 AC/DC. Need to get in and do some practice. Nice to know the longevity of the consumables. Have a good one. Hope the family is well.

Just purchased both these kits after watching this vid, thanks for the info mate very handy. Not too many people in my local welding shops are in the know with UNIMIG tig gear. Also one of youre other vids swayed me to buy that same machine aswell. Ill jump on youre channel and have a look now, but you if you havent already you should do some tutorials using this machine. Would help me out as a beginner!

You're also the reason I bought this welder. Very happy with it so far. Having an independent Aussie review was great. My machine was supplied with the red-tipped Thoriated tungsten electrodes which work well however I am concerned to learn that they are radioactive. Do you have a preference for tungsten types? I do both Aloy and stainless/ mild steel work in a home hobby shed.
@3888Orbost
@3888Orbost 2 жыл бұрын
Gday Tim, just thought I’d comment here - a lot of welders who come into the tool shop where I work rue the demise of thoriated tungstens on the AU market. Re: the radioactive content - I’m a safety first sort of person and from what I’ve read if you ensure you aren’t breathing in the dust when you sharpen them and avoid handling them without gloves if you have any open wounds/scratches/scrapes on your hands you’ll be fine. “Radioactive” is a bit of a trigger word but understanding any risks and mitigating them (as with most things) is the way to go, If you are after alternatives either lanthanated or ceriated seem to be the way to go, with personal preference and price being the significant decider between them. From memory both are suitable for AC (ally) and DC (most other metals).
@lesfox2010
@lesfox2010 2 жыл бұрын
From what I've learned, the thoriated's radioactivity will not penetrate intact skin and it will only become harmful if you inhale the grinding dust. Manage that and all will be fine. Since I weld both Aluminium and Stainless, I use a lanthanated electrode, which serves both and there is no confusion over what one does what.

The Unimig Razor 200 ACDC TIG snuck into my shed last week. I haven't fired it up yet and I'm new to TIG. Danger Wil Robinson! These new Torchology (SP?) kits and the performance of these new torches are the factors that swung me. The pyrex kits are the icing on the cake and I MUST HAVE THEM! :)

Maybe I'm too much of a light weight (I tend to stick to thin gauge steel with TIG), but I've never worn out a normal collet on a torch. I do love gas lenses though. My favorite torch style is actually pencil style, so I don't have the back of the tungsten sticking out sideways. In the shop for the big XMT304 we did get a water cooled torch so you could do 300A, but at that point why wouldn't you just stick it.
@johnwessling23
@johnwessling23 2 жыл бұрын
Most of my welding is in funny positions in tight spots and the Uni mig torch is just too big and heavy. 26 water cooled is my go too. But I'm often welding aluminium 16 to 25mm sections for more than 35% of the time.

Hey nice to see you back! Whats the Secret of these shiny Welds? I dont get then with my supertig 200 . Preflow and postflow a tried a lot , but they are looking burned. Even with these big Cups i cant get them . How much cfh are you using? Which rods? Thanks so far.
@LittleAussieRockets
@LittleAussieRockets 2 жыл бұрын
What's your amps? A mistake I made was being to cold and not moving quick enough. That will cook your stainless steel. You need to hold a tire ark, 15 to 20 L/minute gas flow of pure argon. My rods are 316L and 309 stainless. Most important is a crisp clean tungsten. Post flow 4 to 5 seconds. Preflow 1 second max.
@Witschor
@Witschor 2 жыл бұрын
Pre and Postflow is like yours. Does the type of Tungsten make a Difference? I Use Blue for Stainless.At 1mm sheetmetal i use 35 to 40 amps. I will check my Rods for the Type later.

Hi. Have you used the T3 torch? I'm about to buy the 200 ACDC TIG, but in NZ they come standard with the T3 torch which does not have Super Series Kit option. I can ask them to change out the torch to the T2 to give me the option of picking up a Super Series Kit. You clearly do just fine as a professional TIG welder without having issues with your T2 torch correct?
@LittleAussieRockets

The T2 torch is just fine, it has a great Juty cycle and the consumables have lasted long time.

You have the best reviews for the 200 razor and 180 viper I've found. But now I'm torn between what machine to buy so I have a question for you, if I want to weld up to 4mm Alu would the 180 be enough or would I need the 200 and what would be the max alu thickness you could weld with the 200?
@LittleAussieRockets
@LittleAussieRockets 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. I would go for the 200 and I would also look into a water cooled torch if you're planning on welding a lot of Alu.
