Tremec really fucked up when it comes to the reverse function of the T56. Common problems with putting it into reverse.

When you tossed the spring I found that hilarious..... I guess it was just how you went about it! Nope don't need that... Hahaha. Quick and simple solution.

Solenoid wasn't very expensive. Getting to it is the biggest hassle. If I'm going to go through the hassle of removing and reinstalling it, I would spend the money and replace it. Its not worth the possible damage or accident or death without it.

Everybody's free do as they please to their own car. I bought an unfinished disaster of a project and brought it to the finish line. Have it running and driving great, but I kept grinding reverse when going for 5th. Someone had done this mod and I ended up putting in a new reverse lockout solenoid. I'd love to know the trick for finding 5th, especially when coming out of 6th. without jamming reverse with no lockout solenoid.

This just started happening to mine, it used to keep me from going over to reverse but now it’s a bitch to get to fifth and not grind on reverse. What did you do to fix it? Just a buy a new solenoid?
@keiths94833 ай бұрын
@@xanderbrandenburg6628 Yup. Buy a new reverse lockout solenoid. I also went with a Bowler "All In One" controller. Works a charm. Uses a phone app to set the parameters of the reverse lockout solenoid.

Why is it that everyone who says this is dangerous wants to sell you something?
@saveamerica6798 жыл бұрын
+Julian Merghart I don't see anyone trying to selling anything but Joe did mention more than one company in hos comment. Doesnt change his advice though either way does it Regardless of weather or not he is selling something, his comment is true that this is not a wise modification to make. I guess common sense is not so common after all. With so many youtube videos we will see a sharp decline in stupid part of the population darwinism at work

@SRTvenomous I have a 2005 Corvette, since Ive owned it I cannot get it into reverse unless the car is rolling back and its still very hard. You have the most descriptive video on youtube to fix this, problem is I cant see that far up on the transmission when its jacked up. Do you know where I can access the harness and apply 12V or some other way to confirm its stuck hence locking me out of 5th. I figure it must be stuck in the open position or unplugged...Thanks!! Oh, almost forgot, my car is throwing a P0803 skip shift solenoid control circuit. All under the hood fuses ok, no grinding and no problems shifting through all gears. Just the dreaded reverse!!!
@bretbradbury55596 жыл бұрын
If you want to know if your solenoid is working, apply pressure toward the reverse position and at the same time, turn on the ignition. You should be able to feel it drop into the far position easily. If it doesn't reduce the resistance that prevents you from easily getting it into that full right side position, either the solenoid is defective or it's not getting the signal it needs for some reason.

I did this and my car falls out of reverse I have to hold it in Is that because of this

Also +1 for dont do this. Its not hard to put a t56 in reverse from 4th
@joebuffalino28199 жыл бұрын
DANGEROUS thing to do. That spring is there for a reason. The lockout is SUPPOSED to be hard to over-ride. You need to energize it to make it go into reverse. They make a special controller for it and that is what you need. If you get into reverse at high speed, your car will literally disentigrate. Go check out youtube videos of cars accidentally going into reverse at high speed.....it shreds the clutch, bell housing shrapnel goes flying (through the hood on a few). If you want to do it right, do what we did. Samoco Industries sells a lockout control box and also Modern Driveline sells one with their transmission systems. The Samoco box comes stand alone, whereas I think the Modern Driveline one comes with a bunch of other things and costs more.

You cannot get into reverse if you wanted to. Geez rookies. If you're dumb enough to power shift 5th I can't help you. If you can't hit 5th instead of reverse you're really bad. Regardless of your IQ you cannot engage reverse! Only get a little grind reminding you that your not the smartest!
@osos2318 жыл бұрын
Well, I do powershift into 5th right before the traps. Doesn't mean myself or anyone else is dumb. I'll give you the fact that yes it's very hard to get into reverse going foward and you'll get the Hello I'm grinding reminder. I'll also give you the fact that you gotta be dumb enough to go into reverse as hard as it is. But no one is dumb for powershifting.

osos231 Accidentally moving the stick slightly more right when shifting has nothing to do with intelligence and is the reason why the lockout spring exists in the first place. In fact, intentionally removing such a safety device would be far more indicative of a lack of intelligence than an unintentional act.
@satanz31114 жыл бұрын
redslate32 The reverse lock out is designed to keep you from grinding reverse while moving forward. As was explained, it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to go into reverse while the vehicle is moving forward. The gears are moving in opposite directions and it simply cannot physically be done, by anyone, period. Again, reverse lockout is just there to keep gears from grinding.

good lord look at the comments haha,sikky sells a plug that plugs it up,but doing this is free haha.theres several ways to wire it up but ive read,on the friggin web people come back and say bad things,ok first you can wire it to your brake lights,or your brake pedal,i heard after a while your tail lights mess up,i was just going to put a damn toggle switch under the dash for each time i go into rev,

Can someone please help me!! My 1st 3rd and 5th don’t have resistance when shift and pops out from time to time. When I try to downshift to an odd gear it grinds and pops out. My even gears are perfectly fine, I can shift into them feeling some notchyness and downshift into them no problem.

My 11 year old G8GXP with a T56 suddenly will not go into reverse no matter what I do. Is the solenoid itself bad or some controller going to it? I am thinking it is not the solenoid itself.

By no accident whatsoever can you engage reverse while moving forward. You must be new to transmissions of the Manual type? Lol

Hi, I am new to manual shifting and I am looking to do a removal/install soon. So if I do the plunger/spring delete and shift into 5th, you are saying it is impossible for me to shift into reverse while driving? What would happen with this off? Like I just shift into reverse normally or I have to muscle it? Can I grease the spring instead? I've been looking at other comments and I just want to make sure. Thanks for the help!

Are you saying that by doing what you did and getting rid of the spring, during driving would it then be possible if shifting into 5th to accidentally go into reverse? Thanks
@Misterfairweather9 жыл бұрын
+Frank Nere Yes, the gate between 5 and reverse are pretty close, a lot of people just trim back the spring instead of tossing it so that there's still some tension but a reduced amount.
@GroovesAndLands5 жыл бұрын
It isn't possible to actually get into reverse while going at a speed where 5th gear would be an option. If you try to push the gear stick into reverse, instead of 5th, you'll be greeted with a grinding noise. I've driven a lot of cars that weren't equipped with a reverse lock out and somehow, amazingly, I've never once accidentally bumped into the reverse gate inadvertantly. How have I managed not to bump into reverse when flat-shifting into 4th in all those mustangs, Camaros, Honda's, etc? Magic, I guess... Meanwhile, I've found every single lockout device/mechanism to be crappy. No thanks

DO NOT FOLLOW THIS VIDEO, Dangerous. I have a t-56 termie setup in my 93 fox body. I dont have the above hooked up at all. I used a spring with 50% less tension than the stock spring. Still take a little effort to put it in reverse but it prevents the shifter from going into reverse by accident. Some people hook it up so the when the brake is applied it solenoid is free. I hate the clicking noise every time I hit the brake
