People thought that the T880 was going to push the T800 out of production, but here many years later it's still hanging on strong considering. You said something that stood out to me how you said how these are different trucks and you also said how you can tell that they come from the same manufacturer. Which can be said about the W990 and W900, different trucks, yet from the same manufacturer. It's all about what works for you and what's your preference. It's ok if someone likes one over the other and that's why we have choices and options.

T880 all day for me, the bigger cab is greatly appreciated for someone over 6 foot tall. I don't like having the ignition key only two inches away from my knee like the cab of the T800 is set up. When I got out of the T800 that I had brand new back in 2007 and got in my 1st T880 back in 2014 you couldn't get me to go back to my T800. The space and how it felt a drove were enough reasons not to. For starters once I saw pictures and that Kenworth video I liked the truck . I had already determined that the T880 was gonna be my next truck and pitched that to the boss. That truck was spec'd in late 2013 and built in May of 2014 and took delivery in early July. On my 2nd T880 and I don't see myself going back to a 1.9 meter cab truck. I do wished that the T880 had the diamond tuck/trim headliner. It's mixed feelings between these 2 great trucks hear at C.L.S. some like one ovee the other and the boss is neutral when it comes to both trucks. The biggest single issue I have with most modern tractors, no matter which brand or model, is the composite headlights. I haven't seen one yet that doesn't need replacement every few years because they get cloudy. The T-800, and a few others have real headlights and that would definitely be a selling point to me. Kenworth T800 the old boah all the way. We got a 250k mile one that is excellent. 8 speed Eaton. Enjoyable trick to drive. Used to be a drywall boom truck the forks grapple got took off it. It’s gonna probably get a Fassi or a Cormach boom installed on it with a hook and winch system. Motor is a C15 Acert 475HP, trucks a 2006. It’s got a prentice boom on it currently we can’t do recovery work with that so it’s coming off and being sold. We are thinking about installing a heavy duty long reach fassi boom or cormach boom, and a winch system and hook grapple so we can swing and have it bend places for recovery work. We still leave the bed on the truck too to put the vehicle/rubble etc on. May add rear outriggers. The truck only has it in the front. It was a drywall truck originally. Took good care of.

@t-yoonit5 жыл бұрын
Mixed feelings from me. My company hauls heavy smoothbore tanks. 8 axle trailers. 150k gross. The fleet is all extended day cabs. The baby sleepers. 500hp isx15 18sp manual Fuller's. 8 bag suspension. I started in a 2019 t800. All my prior ones were the old interiors. The 2019 was a massive upgrade for me. Cab was considerably quieter, the LED gauge backlighting and switches were oh so nice. I loved it. The modern mirrors offered so much more visibility than the old west coast style mirrors. Storage abounds even for a mini sleep. We just got a handful of new 2020 T880s. I've logged a fair number of miles in both. The ride on the 880 is considerably more pleasant than the 800. The cab suspension design is a huge improvement as are the seats over the 800. But I do like the positioning of the 800 seat over the 880. I like being tucked back deeper into the cab. You're sitting next to the window in the 880 unless your legs are a mile long and you can kick the seat back. I'm 5'11". The 880 main cluster info center and gauge font is nicer but I wish they had cool white lights instead of soft white so they match the auxillary gauges on the center stack. I like the column mounted Jake. I like the HVAC system better. I like the stereo location better. The 880 feels like it has so much more visibility out the front. Like you're outside almost. But I miss being able to look out my window and see my fender and know exactly where my hood is in tight spots. Storage is abysmal compared to the 800s. The wider cab took out the corner pockets behind the seats, the bins under the top shelf are gone, but the storage pockets above the windshield are actually usable as opposed to the 800s that would throw anything you put up there back at you. I like the LED interior lights on the 880 but I do miss the ability to put colored LEDs in the old housings of the 800. The 880 switches are an improvement functionally. The backlight indication is much appreciated over the separate blinding green indicator of the 800s. The guarded switches though, feel loose and floppy and wiggle around a bit. The headlights are so much more effective on the 880. Honestly im surprised that they stuck with sealed beam tech for as long as they did. Out of the box they suck, but there are upgrades available that nullify that shortcoming now with LED technology. The missing back window is disappointing. For our drop and hook routes, flipping that shade up and having that window was a huge help for guys that couldn't always line.up the best in the dark with their mirrors. The 880 traction/stability control does not like multi axle trailers. At all. The 880 can be scary as hell when you're loaded and taking a curve and the truck stabs the brakes and rips the wheel straight mid turn. Huge deal breaker right there. Misbehaving safety systems are a big no bueno. Being home daily, the narrower cab was nice for me. I put my lunch bag on the passenger seat. Stayed cooler because it was off the floor, could reach anything in it without struggling like I do in the 880. Honestly I still want my 800 over the 880. But if there was a way to adapt the updated cab suspension to the the 800, there would be no reason to even look at an 880 for me. The ride of the 880 is so much nicer. But the shortcomings of the truck just don't make the better ride worth it. 🤷

@@KenworthofRichfield the real deal breaker for me and a lot of our drivers is that damn stability control system that acts up to varying degrees with our multi axle trailer setups. The tandem axle small tube trailers are fine, but 99.9% of our fleet is super tankers. The way they act up is ridiculously dangerous. A couple trucks have already tried driving off the backside of curves with a load. The rest is menial bullshit that I could deal with either way. Little less storage, more space to move around, better light, less customization. Better ride, less desirable seating position. All fair enough trade offs. I don't pay for the truck so I'll drive what they give me keys to. 🤣

They are comfortable and I'm sure most people would like them, but for me personally I think the t800 interior is more comfortable and intuitive. The t880 switches and buttons feel scattered to me with the steering wheel ECT, and the cab is so quiet and smooth I forget I'm driving a truck. I wont complain driving either but the t800 has stood the test of time because it's comfortable and intuitive yet utilitarian and affordable so it will always be my first choice.

The t880 cab is nice it has way more leg room, lunch box room and more glass area nice gauges also. How ever the new cab does feel to plasticky to me. T800 cabs feel tighter better built and I like the classic feel. I'm 29 so I really can't be called old school either lol. I will say the t880s seem to cool much better than the 2013 t800 I drive with the same hp. Not sure why this is but the fans on the t880s come on much less than on the t800s even the old pre 07 trucks run more often. We have one of our t880s as a dump truck and our 2013 t800 is also a dump both are 450hp isx15 8spd with 4:10 gears. Both have the same beds the same drop axles and the same tires. The 880 weighs about 600lbs less than the t800 not really sure where the weight difference is but that's the difference. Only thing I can say is I would pick either as long as it doesn't have 8-bag. My t880 with 8-bag is tippy and slides alot as a dump truck. My old w900L with new-way is so much better.

I am use to a manual transmission only. I feel that if you can not shift a truck, you should not be on the road driving one. Learning how to shift is proof of experience. Again the T800 in this film is a much better truck to me!

My grandpa told me "never ever buy a brand new model of anything it's going to have "teething" problems", so we'll see if the T800 is still such a popular model that KW is still selling them even with T880 is in production, or will the T800 fade out, only the miles will tell. As for the other truck, if you're a HOOD LOVER the W900 is the king of the road for a reason! As for the W990 are you kidding me, aero on a hood truck? Who are they trying to kid, gimme the real HOOD on the W900! We ain't looking at a hood truck for the AERO, we're looking at it cause iT'S A HOOD!

The T880 has been around since 20113 (or 14).....so it's not a "new" model. It's really proven itself out there.

The t800 ! 100% with a cat 3406E and a Eaton 18 speed with a set of 44s at rears! Air ride ?? Yeah ok air ride however, Chalmers get the job done to !! Great traction , that t880 Kenworth they can keep that !

Can’t stand the 880. Stuck in the damn thing. Next new truck we get, I get to spec my own. Be the 800. 880 is garbage off highway in the Pacific Northwest. Just pavement pounders. They didn’t build them to be packing the big iron in the brush. Cabs are garbage! Can’t take the the vibration of being on gravel roads grossing 180k. 800s have done it with no problems since they came out in 1987.

T880 stands for more plastic.
@KenworthofRichfield5 жыл бұрын
It's a bigger cab, so yes.....but they use a thicker plastic in many cases.
@salstonightsbiggestloser5 жыл бұрын
To ellabirate a bit my biggest 2 gripes is the side mirrors being plastic, and the headlights being an assembly. I think overall it's a highway version of the t800. Are both rugged? Sure. But overall I'd rather stick with a well known easy to find parts classic. There is also a reason our fleet it going back to Cummins with true Manuals.

The T800 uses the B cab - not sure why anyone, especially a KW salesman, would ever refer to it as a "1.9m".

Because it's referred to that in quite a few spots also. :D

@@KenworthofRichfield I disagree. It's universally known as the "B" cab, as it very well should be, since its release in late 1982.

The t880 is so significantly better its actually ridiculous people still buy t800s the difference is incredible, this video didnt even get through a quarter of the changes that make t880 so much better. Then theres also aerodyanmics u will save a solid 3 grand+ a year on fuel with t880.

I spend 10 to 12 hours a day in a truck and i have to say the T880 is way more driver friendly than the T800 whoever designed this truck is a blessing to anyone who drives one.!! The Mack pinnacle has to be the worse.

T880 i drive everyday. T800 is a real true kenworth 880 feels like a freightliner or Sterling or something, definitely not a kenworth. The T800 is the best, intimate quieter, built like a true truck not a large ford pickup. Sorry kenworth screwed up with the 880, cheap feel, harsh ride, noisy and mirror placement sucks!, sun visors on 880 do nothing with the larger window area! Theyre too high to work. I drive long haul both 880 and 800. 800 wins everytime. The 880 will not hold up like a 800, no way. Just my $ .02

10 speed stick and 10 speed auto is garbage haha. What are you going to pull with that? That gearbox is no good on hills. Might make a good yard pup, but cmon 10speed👎. It's good truck when you can use it to pull loads and make money with an 18 speed.
@KenworthofRichfield5 жыл бұрын
What if I told you that both of the 10 speeds were the same transmission.....just operated differently.
@doubleagent69515 жыл бұрын
@@KenworthofRichfield I know that most automatics the computer does the shifting and it's pretty close to manual and still it's slower than what most seasoned truckers can shift anyway. Works great when you're empty and in traffic of course. But the autos have no balls once your up to 9th or 10th gear(18 speed). The computer hesitates here and often misses this shift. Usually when loaded going up hill. My first comment I was complaining about the transmission being a 10speed instead of a 18 speed. I truck the rocky mountains of b.c with 63500kg on a set of super b's. The automatics are good for big companies with fat wallets and company drivers who our hourly. These companies will have new drivers that couldn't drive manual, so it would make sense for auto ( come to B.C and you'll see what I mean ) With ten speed gearbox you're limited to what you can haul. Being able to split each gear in an 18 speed is what makes a truck pull
