I feel like the push was gimped somewhat by just going knights for the first few minutes - I wonder how this would look if the slung player went with a more normal wood/food eco balance, and just took advantage of the free-ish farms by building more siege. You'd get fewer knights, but you'd have a lot more siege to kill with. Plus, you would be able to float more wood for auto-seed.

Another strength of this strategy that you didn't mention is the Teuton team bonus where units resist conversions. One of the biggest counters against knights is monks, so having the Teuton teammate would counter that.

Khmer seems like a good partner with teutons because it requires less micro than other civs, but in maps that are easy to wall off (like black forest), that might be less beneficial. In which case Slavs, with their faster farmers, would probably be good (no idea if the farms create food faster if a Slav player takes them).

I think considering it's a variation of fast castle + sling the counter strategies shouldn't be too difficult. You've got poor eco and need to fight 2v1 so have to kill quick or its game over.

Looks like maybe you could do this with 3 on wood until you click castle to have more on food to avoid that bit of idle time in feudal, then switch more to wood after clicking castle? Also, if he finishes the farms, can't you still take them? Also, Do the vils automatically take the farms if you build a farm or a mill?

Technically this is the same as if he slung you wood to build your own farms except instead of paying the sling tax you're actually getting cheaper farms. And it happens in dark age.

@@ateeqn1985 Doesn't change anything about the trade route, but you don't just have one market when setting up trade for the same reason you don't boom on 1 tc - trade carts take forever to build and you need a lot of them, much like vills. Which means the more markets you have, the faster you get to your ideal number of trade carts, and the faster your gold investment pays off.

Well the farms are significantly cheaper for the teuton player, but the main thing is timing. Having resources faster is quite often better than having more resources (lithuanian +150 food is considered more powerful than ethiopian +100 food/gold, even though the ethi bonus technically gives you more resources), here t90 was able to do the big knight push like 2/3 minutes before he usually would be.

They were trying, his cavalier lack bloodlines so he would be spamming them into better cavaliers. He tried going onagers, but he never got enough and there was cav to snipe them, and while longbows are better than arbs, you need castles to produce them and he didn't have enough castles to justify the switch. Was he playing his absolute best? Probably not, but he for sure was trying.

I've been told that when you make a knight push against a player who is walking behind you want to build a tower. Is there a reason t90 didnt? I understand seige is better in the long run, but you have to make the workshop and then produce enough and roll them over it's just much slower right?

The thing you have to understand is that with this strat, your eco super tight. You can't just send 4 villagers while keeping your production up. Also it would mean that he wouldn't be able to add TCs later.

@@termint2113 oh I see that makes a lot of sense, a tower means no/less knight production for 2 minutes where instead you can just drop a workshop and send the vill back to work. Okay but exploring the thought, since you were so behind anyways could you have sent 4? A lot of vills were idle in the tc for their protection. Sneaking vills would have been hard though with those archers there so fast. Maybe the next level of this strat is the tuetons player tower rushes while the player getting farm slinged backs the towers with knights? Watching weird strategies and theory crafting might be my favourite thing in aoe2, but I'm just at the strategy level atm without enough knowledge of eco limitations.

@@MrHeorhe I could have sent them, but to me that feels like a very high risk low reward move. I could run into archers, some stray scouts and that kind of stuff. Even if I wasn't completely surrounded and I could have sent them, I would reach his base quite late. Also the tower wouldn't be that useful since he was walled big time already, while t90's siege shop was useful for scorps against their spearmen. The "if you can't get in, tower" thing is more true in feudal, in castle a siege workshop is a lot better.

@@termint2113 yeah it would have been super high risk. I'll have to watch the video again but now my thoughts are leading to a tower rush to prep the enemy base for the fast castle assault. But you would already be behind from placing the farm's and having 1 vill in your allies base not gathering for you. If I had more friends that played I'd be able to test it out myself lol but for now I'm going to watch some tower rush videos to see timings. Tueton tower rush is one of the stronger ones too. That's why my thoughts are going there, as t90 said in the video he wasn't quite sure what you were supposed to do once he got to castle, if you had been towering the opponent it's like the most minimal way you could have disrupted them while t90 gets set up for the assault before any knights show up. Even if you dont deal damage like towering a gold line it still might be worth to get 2 towers down close enough to the wall to prevent house walling. I could be barking up the wrong tree, but I love these gimmicky plays and combining them just seems natural to me because it will throw off the opponent. Like they might be able to handle a farm sling... but what about a tower rush into a farm sling? XD

@@termint2113 you went 30 vills and clicked feudal around 12 minutes, if you went 9 less vills would the food saved be enough to go up at least 2 minutes faster? Might have had to idle tc... but that wouldnt necessarily be bad since this build order is so wacky. In a 1v1 viper rushed at 8 minutes and built towers at 10, 11 and 12 minutes. If you were delayed 3 minutes from harass and sending the vill to the ally you would still hit the tower rush a minute before t90 finishes castle age upgrade. Is that at all possible?
