Spirit of the law did a video on animal decay a while ago, as I remember there really wasn't much difference at all between eating one or two (maybe even three) goats at a time. For lower skill players like myself - we're far more likely to forget to send a goat in at all and have villagers standing around doing nothing. That's why I continue to eat a few at a time, even though I know it's technically possible to gain 10 extra food by sending them one at a time. The benefit is not worth the risk.
@johnzenc19844 жыл бұрын
I hope T90 can comment on how it's not optimal, but for most players it should not be the focus of improvement. Fix build orders, keep producing villagers, scout, make military. You could argue it's a bad habit like straggler trees, but I think straggler trees are worse than having a few animals gathering at the same time. Maybe I'm wrong.
@Sholto_David4 жыл бұрын
@@ohadf7751 That's absolute worst case scenario, you'd have to be equally well organised to make sure that each sheep is gathered by one villager for the entire process, that's not what we saw here. Meanwhile to have six villagers stand doing nothing could very easily put you a villager behind with just a momentary lapse of concentration because you wanted to send in sheep one by one. It's only going to give you an edge if the rest of your build is optimised and your scouting is perfect, and like most lower level players mine isn't.
@Real_MisterSir4 жыл бұрын
That's true, but it's also a habit that doesn't let you improve over time. The best option is to just do it sufficiently enough times that it becomes second nature, which will allow you to consistently get a lead in games. Collecting from sheep is just one element, but if you try to work on things that are difficult, that's how you improve the most over time. Of course if you don't desire to push your improvement then nobody is gonna force you to try and milk that extra benefit from efficiency. Your choice after all :)
@Sholto_David4 жыл бұрын
@@ohadf7751 If you forget to send one, it happens a lot if you're not very good. Please read the comment before replying. Overall if you are likely to forget one (i.e. it has happened before) it would be better to just eat a few and focus on other things, there are more important efficiencies to find at this level than potential gain of 10 food on a sheep.
@Sholto_David4 жыл бұрын
@@Real_MisterSir Of course if you never try you'll never learn, but you can't learn everything all at once, and even at low ELO people are playing to win, not just to get better. I've been sunk entirely too many times by goats standing outside of hearing range. You won't get much fun out of the game if you spend too much time trying to optimise hearding, I would wait for it to become a real hurdle to progression before attending it.

T90, around 8:00 you said lot of players just go with one strategy and dont counter. As a aoe player who can beat hardest ai... I cant close out games against humans who have the same experience as me. I've practiced booming, build orders, early rushes and all in pushes and then only thing that works for me is all in pushes. Every other strategy that relies on pressure just gets countered before I can do any real damage it feels
@Wwillswords4 жыл бұрын
What Civs are you playing as? As some civs have different strategies based on unit composition as well as economic bonuses. Aztecs for example do better if you raid in mid game and disrupt the opponents economy. Goths struggle to win if they cant keep up economically early game but if you hold out till late game have about 40 people on farms and 30 or so on wood with 4 barracks makes you practically unbeatable even if you just build halbidiers and skirmishes as you have no gold
@dimitrikemitsky4 жыл бұрын
I had the same problem for a long time. I don't know your elo so there may be simpler problems than this (like upgrades, or just poor engagement choices), but for me focusing on constant pressure and discreet goals helped. For example in the civ match-up in this LEL game, Mayans v. Mongols: If I'm Mayans, I won't be thinking "push and win" but rather "push to deny stone, deny gold, refuse castles, prevent Mangudai." Even if you have to start the game and immediately pause for 30 seconds to think, it's worth it if you can ensure your goal is focused on maximizing your strengths and minimizing theirs. As far as finishing out a game, maybe practice some transitions into trebs/siege. If you are coming from a position of effective pressure, especially with forward buildings, transition into trebs or rams is usually pretty fluid. Just make sure you are focusing siege on stuff like castles, TC, production buildings, not like 18 pieces of wall, mining camps, etc.
@MrHeorhe4 жыл бұрын
@@Wwillswords yeah I am at the point of learning civ specific build orders. I am currently playing incas I build a medium force of eagles if I'm not pressured, and a small force of eagles and archers if I am. I use the eagles for raiding and advance to castle asap, preferable before opponent due to raiding. Then I send my stone miners forward and build a forward castle, a seige shop, 2 barracks and an archery range and usually incas saved enough stone for an extra tc at home. The though of denying gold and stone is a good one, I guess I need to do some research on civ strengths. I dont know anything about any civ other than Frank's, goths, persians, and the mesocivs. You example of denying mangodai/castles is a great tip thanks. Edit: lol I responded to the wrong person but I think I covered both replies XD
@Wwillswords4 жыл бұрын
@@MrHeorhe so look at your tech tree before playing any civilization read what you get and dont gett plus the techs that you cant research but are just a civ special like aztecs carry 5 more resources or goths villagers do plus 5 damage vs boars and Frank's castles are 33 percent cheaper
@MrHeorhe4 жыл бұрын
@@dimitrikemitsky currently the only build order that I dont just fizzle out on is incas standard open into eagles and archers, rush into castle after 0/+1 on eagles and +1/0 on archers. Sit at 40 vills and ignore my base for the rest of the game as I make a forward military base. 1 castle, 2 barracks, 1 archery range, and 1 seige workshop. I can keep constant production of eagles and by selling food I can keep the archers and rams coming too. I'm very bad at microing seige but I think I'm better than average at unit/military micro and thus rams are my prefered choice. Especially if I'm in castle before the opponent. But literally any late game build where you are supposed to go 80-120 vills I seem to lack the macro skills once the game gets that far in and no real way to practice that other than play more but I dont know exactly what I'm doing wrong you know? Even watching my replays it's hard to pinpoint where I need to improve cause it just seems like my opponent is faster, but when I speed up I make mistakes and cant think properly and just even forget basic things like building a university and monastery once I hit castle.
