Ta-Nehisi Coates says that, despite profound disagreements with President Obama, he still admires him. What do you think of Obama's legacy after four years of Trump? Let us know in the comments!

my perspective is broader and deeper... less rose colored glasses more nuanced... less idealistic... given what I've learned I still would've voted for him just because he is black and democrat not because of my misplaced idealism...

Carlos - thanks to you and your crew for producing an awesome interview with Ta-Nehisi Coates over 2 years ago. I am a white lady who is reading “Between the World and Me” for the first time In July 2023. I watched your conversation with Mr. Coates for the first time today. You knew how to ask the right questions. Then, you stepped back to give him the space to offer his views on his past, present and hopes for the future. You allowed a wise black man to speak his truth. I look forward to watching more episodes of your show. Best wishes to you and your crew.

Is it possible that any person who is lower class has the same challenges regardless of their race? Not everyone will achieve the same in life because we are all in our own circumstances. It is naive to believe that we will all have exactly the same start in life and have exactly the same environment. For those of any race who want to get ahead in North America, the opportunities are there. Some will have to work harder to get there but isn't that what life is going to be? Some of us will be smarter and some will be less smart. Some of us will have one type of family and some will have another. We make the best of the hand we are dealt. You cannot legislate complete equality because we are humans not robots.

Well said. Short version: equality of opportunity, NOT equality of outcome.

Sadly, the music is very distracting. Notice that for Carlos, they do not play music in the background. Apparently, Carlos's words are the only important ones.

It's a shame that he couldn't hire an actual Native Black American to direct the film.

He's to focused on negative past... but present is different which he can't see... If he knows and loves history that much than he should to understand that slavery was ordinary thing in past centuries and I'm not speaking about only 250 years... Pyramids were built by slaves... Every race experienced slivery, there were different markets in different arias who were selling people, it was in middle east, in Europe, in Americas etc... Slivery ended after human understanding evolved... It is over and it's not pleasant or productive to speak every day about it. It is over...
