Really appreciate the time and effort from yourself and all contributors. Great to have something like this to watch, taps into football nostalgia and childhood joys of Subbuteo. Still play Subbuteo although due to various pitch is boxed up for the moment, the recreations are amongst my favourite segments, to have the commentary whilst it all happens on a Subbuteo pitch is wonderful - Thank you

Thanks Philip...it's a challenge making commentary and speed of play match but immense fun. You'll notive I've never included a game with a bicycle kicked goal. haven't worked that one out yet. Keith

Great show as ever. As a youngster playing the game, I never really noticed the switch over from zombie to lightweight, I just enjoyed playing. Nothing like the excitement of going into town to buy a new team. Had some of the happiest times of my 10-16 yr old days playing the game. I’m a villa fan and my mate was Blues, although we played Subbuteo hundreds of times, we never played that particular fixture too often for the risk of it getting too competitive and us falling out!. Happy days. UTV

Hello, I'm a boy from Portugal, I loved your video as always. I and my father love to play subbuteo but we always end up arguing because when shooting on goal it ends up leaving its position and we couldn't know if it was a goal or not then we were upset with each other. They could offer two metal goals to not create so much confusion. I would be very happy if they invited me, a hug from Portugal.

just watched ur last 3 lockdown videos as ive just subscribed. I had a smile to myself when you asked the competition question in part 1 about Jim Cumbes. As a Villa fan for my sins since birth (thanks to my Dad for that) I remember him well, his was affectionately known as Dracula due to inherent fear of crosses, he was a tall Keeper but catching a cross was something he never mastered lol. When Ron Saunders came to Villa My Dad wrote to him to ask if I could meet the players, we were invited to the Bodymoor Heath training ground to watch. At the end of the training session the training staff were putting crosses in whilst Keith leonard challenged Jim for the ball. needless to say Jim Cumbes was consistently catching the cross to my amazement. When I met him after as a cheeky 13 year old, I asked him how come he dropped so many catches in matches? He ruffled my hair laughed and said its a game plan. then walked away. Well it worked cus we got promoted and won the league cup that seson.

It,s a credit to you that you continue to put it together, I,m sure we all look forward to it on a Saturday, there,s some debate there on which player sets are best, all mine are heavyweights from when I was young. Stay safe, looking forward to the next one

I met David Fairclough at Anfield last year and got him to sign the match programme with those commentary words. Amazingly, he said no one has ever asked him to sign it like that before. It's the thing he's most famous for!

Wow, what a strange episode. At 11.52, the photograph shows my Uncle George Cummins (visible Luton Player, far right): 13.00, my namesake Gerry Byrne is featured and to top it all off, the revelation of 1961 (the year of my birth) and the introduction of 00. scale plastic figures. Lockdown really was a strange time...

A presentation on the 90s boxes, in various editions i am sure you own, would definitely be interesting as well. Some kind of “unboxing “. There also people my generation who grew up with LW and never heard of the HW before the internet :)

Yeah yeah, back in 1988, ...what a time, ...in sports table football ! I played the ETE Europa Cup Final vs Willy Hofmann in Salzburg, Austria! Like all the other top players, Marc Clairbois (B), Gerhard Ecker (A) and Martiin Bom (NL) I lost in the Final. Results to be found on the www,fistf.com page in datacentre.

Not sure about the 'fragile' flats ,in almost fifty years I've probably seen less than ten broken ...they are actually very resilient , the bases don't warp like heavyweights, no limbs to break,no weights or inner disks to work loose and no soft legs like the lightweights ... what you do need to try is an FF ball and NN goals with the old fellas in place of the beach ball
@TableTopYears4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ralph - you're certainly correct about the bases. I have a nice collection of lonesome immaculate bases :) I've had a handful snap at the join with the base which is so frustrating as replacements are so hard to find but I've put some padded flooring tiles around the base of the table now!
@ralphpomeroy36904 жыл бұрын
@@TableTopYears well that is a fair point it is best to play somewhere carpeted ...plus if someone has straightened them in the incorrect way the legs can weaken ...the right way involves a heavy book .. a glass of Jameson's ...a cigar ....and a gas hob .. never fails 😂
@TableTopYears4 жыл бұрын
@@ralphpomeroy3690 That's useful. I have been guilty of trying to straighten - mid game - with a little flexing of the player (never thought that through). I'm off to place a few of them under the O.E.D now. I was going to use a fine tome called 'All I know about Table Football' but not sure a postcard will do the trick! Thanks for getting in touch.

Thanks once again for another great show Keith. Enjoyed the feature about lightweights, although I have to admit that as a child of the 70s, the LWs never really did it for me. I never liked the hollow 'clunking' sound when they connect with the ball, as opposed to the solid and satisfying 'click' a HW makes. And the more accurate and detailed machine printing of the kits (even down to elaborate designs/sponsors' logos etc) might have been a delight, if it weren't for the fact that from the 80s onwards clubs have changed their kit designs so bloody often that any new design becomes obsolete almost immediately... certainly within one season in most cases. No, give me the 70s and HWs any day of the week - the painting may not be as accurate, but the figure itself is far better, without sponsors' logos the kits can often double up as several different teams (I hate sponsors' logos on football shirts anyway), and the HW figure has a much more realistic and convincing pose, unlike the LW which to me looks knock-kneed. 🙂
@mod79304 жыл бұрын
I agree. The HW figure is aesthetically bang-on. The kits mid-60's to early 70's look superb. Check out the photos of the Everton players kits (around 18 minutes) in part 2 of the lockdown special.
